Employers' Perceptions of Intimate Partner Violence among a Diverse Workforce

  • Objectives: Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a significant global public health concern, affecting 5.3 million US individuals annually. An estimated 1 in 3 women globally are abused by an intimate partner in their lifetime, and the effects carry over into the workplace. This article examines employers' perceptions of IPV in the workplace, targeting supervisors of Latina employees. Methods: Fourteen employers and supervisors of small service-sector companies in Oregon were interviewed using semi-structured interviews. Interpretive description was used to identify themes. These qualitative interviews preceded and helped to formulate a larger workplace intervention study. Results: The following themes were found and are detailed: (1) factors associated with recognizing IPV in the workplace, (2) effects of IPV on the work environment and (3) supervisors' responses to IPV-active vs. passive involvement. Also, supervisors' suggestions for addressing IPV in the workplace are summarized. Conclusion: These findings demonstrate the need for more IPV-related resources in the workplace to be available to supervisors as well as survivors and their coworkers. The needs of supervisors and workplaces vary by site, demonstrating the need for tailored interventions, and culturally appropriate workplace interventions are needed for Latinas and other racially and ethnically diverse populations.

  • 현장실습교육과정은 학생에게는 산업현장의 생생한 체험 기회를 제공하고, 기업에서는 적은 임금으로 수요에 적합한 고급인력을 활용할 수 있도록 하며, 대학은 산업현장에서 요구되는 인력수요에 보다 유연하게 대처할 수 있는 21세기형 새로운 산학협동교육 시스템을 지향하고 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 최근 대학 교육 패러다임의 전환 요구와 함께 현장실습교육이 급격하게 요구받고 있는 실정에서 현장실습에서 학습자의 만족도에 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석해 보고, 산업단지 캠퍼스의 현장실습 개선방향을 제시해 보고자 하였다.

NUCLEAR HUMAN RESOURCE PROJECTION UP TO 2030 IN KOREA

  • The prospects for growth of the nuclear power industry in Korea have improved remarkably as the demand for energy increases in stride with economic development. Meanwhile, as nuclear energy development is enhanced, nuclear technology has also improved evolutionarily and innovatively in the areas of reactor design and safety measures. As nuclear technology development in Korea advances, more human resources are required. Accordingly, the need for a well-managed program of human resource development (HRD) aimed at assuring needed capacities, skills, and knowledge and maintaining valuable human resources through education and training in various nuclear-related fields has been recognized. A well-defined and object-oriented human resource development and management (HRD&M) is to be developed in order to balance between the dynamics of supply and demand of the workforce in the nuclear industry. The HRD&M schemes include a broad base of disciplines, education, sciences, and technologies within a framework of national sustainable development goals, which are generally considered to include economics, environment, and social concerns. In this study, the projection methodology considering a variety of economic, social, and environmental factors was developed. Using the developed methodology, medium- and long-term nuclear human resources projections up to 2030 were conducted in compliance with the national nuclear technology development programmes and plans.

임업 안전사고 심층분석을 통한 재해 저감 방안에 관한 연구 (Study on risk reduction method in forestry using in-depth analysis)

  • Safety and welfare of forestry is very poor because of poor working environment, decreasing workforce and budget, and aging. These have brought many accidents and casualties. The accident rate in the field of forestry were about 2.83 times higher than average of an entire industry and mortality rate were 1.84 times higher than it. The most reason among the mortality accident was caught in, under or between objects and struck by objects. In analysis of 60 serious accident cases, the number of occurrence s of caught in, under or between objects and struck by objects were the highest. We suggest education, engineering, environment, and enforcement methods which is first aid education and emergency response system, equipment of combined IoT technologies and sensors, and certification and career program on the basis of the results.

ODA, FDI 및 교육비 지출이 경제성장에 미치는 영향: Doi Moi 이후의 베트남 (The Effects of ODA, FDI and Education Expenditure on Economic Growth: Vietnam After Doi Moi)

  • Vietnam's economic growth has progressed rapidly since Doi Moi. Vietnam is a key driving force for global economic growth on behalf of China. Therefore, this study analyzed the factors of Vietnam's economic growth by using time series variables after Doi Moi. Study results show that educational expenditures affect ODA in the short term. In the long run, GDP and FDI are causally related to ODA. Based on the above findings, it can be seen that FDI and ODA played a significant role in Vietnam's economic growth. This finding suggests that in order for Vietnam's economy to grow further, the capital market should be more open to foreigners so that FDI and ODA can flow more smoothly. Since the inflow of FDI is also linked to educational expenditure, it is important to understand that the workforce is being upgraded in the Vietnamese labor market.

특성화 고등학교의 건설교육 및 훈련체계 개선방안 (Improvement Measures for Construction Education System in Specialized High School)

  • 건설업은 옥외이동생산, 주문제작 생산이라는 특징을 지니고 있어 기계화나 자동화가 어렵기 때문에 인력에 대한 의존도가 높은 산업이다. 따라서 양질의 기능인력 확보와 양성이 중요하지만 과거부터 수요에 비해 공급이 지속적으로 부족한 실정이다. 특히 청년층 인력은 높은 노동강도, 임시직 일용직 고용구조, 불투명한 미래비전 등으로 인해 건설업 취업을 더더욱 기피하고 있다. 현재 국내에는 청년층 기능인력을 양성하기 위한 기관으로 특성화 고등학교 건설 관련학과가 편성되어 있으나, 졸업 후 건설업으로 취업하는 비율이 낮으며, 기능역량도 낮은 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 문제점을 개선하기 위해 특성화 고등학교의 교육 훈련실태를 분석하여 문제점을 도출하고, 교육체계의 중점개선사항을 도출하였다. 또한 분석 결과에 대한 개선방안으로 교육 훈련경력 인정방안의 마련, 기업체와의 산학협력 확대, 외부 교육기관과의 연계 확대를 제시하였다.

코로나19 확진 간호사의 롱코비드(long COVID) 증상과 관련 요인 (Long COVID symptoms and associated factors in registered nurses with COVID-19)

  • Purpose: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has had significant physical and psychological impacts on registered nurses (RNs). This study aimed to identify long COVID symptoms and their associated factors specifically among RNs. Methods: This descriptive correlational study's sample comprised 189 nurses (31.57±5.98 years, 93.7% female) in Korea. Self-reported long COVID symptoms were assessed using the COVID-19 Yorkshire Rehabilitation Scale. Data were collected from December 31, 2022, to January 13, 2023, using the online survey method and were analyzed using independent t-test, Wilcoxon signed-rank test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and a multiple linear regression analysis with the IBM SPSS Statistics 26.0 program. Results: A total of 179 participants (94.7%) experienced one or more long COVID symptoms. The most prevalent symptoms were weakness (77.8%), fatigue (68.3%), breathlessness (67.7%), cough/throat sensitivity/voice change (50.3%), and sleep problems (50.3%). The factors related to long COVID symptoms were marital status, type of institution, working time, acute COVID-19 symptoms, and vaccination status. The quarantine period (β=.26, p<.001) and the nursing workforce after COVID-19 (β=-.17, p=.018) were significantly associated with long COVID symptoms (Adjusted R2 =.33). Conclusion: Providing comprehensive recognition is necessary for the understanding of long COVID symptoms and their associated factors among nurses and could promote a long COVID symptom management education program targeted at nurses. Moreover, it could facilitate effective nursing care and education plans for long COVID patients.

무게중심 측정을 이용한 불평형 상자의 고안정 적재 시스템 개발 (A Development of Unbalanced Box Stacking System with High Stability using the Center of Gravity Measurement)

  • The logistics industry is converging with digital technology and growing into various logistics automation systems. However, inspection and loading/unloading, which are mainly performed in logistics work, depend on human resources, and the workforce is shrinking due to the decline in the productive population due to the low birth rate and aging. Although much research is being conducted on the development of automated logistics systems to solve these problems, there is a lack of research and development on load stacking stability, which has the potential to cause significant accidents. In this study, loading boxes with various sizes and positions of the center of gravity were set up, and a method for stacking that with high stability is presented. The size of the loading box is measured using a depth camera. The loading box's weight and center of gravity are measured and estimated by a developed device with four loadcells. The measurement error is measured through various repeated experiments and is corrected using the least squares method. The robot arm performs load stacking by determining the target position so that the centers of gravity of the loading boxes with unbalanced masses with a random sequence are transported in alignment. All processes were automated, and the results were verified by experimentally confirming load stacking stability.

지역전략산업에 따른 특성화고 졸업자 신규수요 예측: 대전과 전남 지역 비교를 중심으로 (New demand forecast for vocational high school graduates in regional strategic industries: Focusing on comparison between Daejeon and Jeonnam)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 지역전략산업에 따른 특성화고 졸업자의 신규수요를 예측함으로써 지역별 중등단계 직업교육의 정책수립과 특성화고의 변화에 필요한 기초 자료를 제공하는데 있다. 이를 위해 대전과 전남을 중심으로 지역전략산업을 선정하고, 특성화고 졸업자의 신규수요를 산업별 및 직업별로 예측하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 입지상 분석 및 변이할당 분석 결과, 대전과 전남의 전략산업은 서로 다른 양상을 보이는 것으로 확인되었다. 대전은 전남과 달리 '음식료품 및 담배 제조업', '목재, 종이, 인쇄 및 복제업', '공공행정, 국방 및 사회보장 행정'과 '전기 전자 및 정밀기기 제조업'이 전략산업에 포함되었다. 전남은 대전에서는 도출되지 않은 '기계 운송장비 및 기타 제품 제조업', '비금속광물 및 금속제품 제조업', '전기, 가스, 증기 및 수도사업', '석탄 및 석유, 화학제품 제조업', '광업', '농림어업' 등이 지역전략산업으로 도출되었다. 둘째, 대전과 전남의 특성화고 졸업자에 대한 산업별 직업별 신규수요 역시 서로 다른 양상을 보였다. 대전은 제조업을 중심으로 신규수요가 많은 반면, 전남은 서비스업을 중심으로 신규수요가 많을 것으로 예측되었다. 직업별로는 대전이 전문가 및 관련 종사자의 신규수요 비중이 많은 것과 달리, 전남은 사무 종사자와 서비스 종사자의 신규수요 비중이 많았다. 셋째, 각 직업별 신규수요 중 지역전략산업에서 발생하는 신규 수요의 비중은 대전과 전남에서 모두 높았다. 넷째, 대전과 전남의 특성화고 졸업자에 대한 신규수요를 산업의 입지계수와 변화효과 측면에서 분석한 결과, 대전과 전남 모두 총 변화효과가 정적인(+) 산업들에서 많은 신규수요를 보였다. 입지계수 측면에서는 대전과 전남이 서로 다른 결과를 보였다.

보건간호사 인력수요 추계에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Projected Workforce for Public Health Nurses in Korea)

  • Purpose: Recently there have been many changes in health care environments in Korea. To perform public health programs effectively and efficiently, it is necessary to analyze and identify the demand and supply for the public health nurses. Method: The study analyzed experts' opinions regarding the supply of public health nurses, as well as national and foreign statistical data on workforce supply of public health nurses. Two methods for estimating the amount of demand for public health nurses were used: one was applying the indicators of developed countries for public health nurses based on population: the other was to refer to regulations and/or recommended guidelines in Korea. Result: 1) The number of public health centers, public health sub-centers, and primary health care posts have decreased between 1990 and 2001, from 260 to 242, 1318 to 1270, 2038 to 1907, respectively. 2) Between 1997 and 2002, the number of public health nurses has also decreased from 5572 to 5112. 3) In the case of applying regulations, the number (5112) of existing public health nurses falls shortly by 942. 4) In 2001, the Korean population per one public health nurse was 9262. 5) In the case of applying regulations, the number of public health nurses required to meet the demand for health services in 2001 and 2020 is estimated at 5932 and 6347, respectively. 6) In the case of applying the indicators of developed countries, the number of public health nurses required to meet the demand for health service in 2001 and 2020 is estimated at 9.469 and 10.310, respectively. Conclusion and suggestions: Because of the importance of public health industry, public health nurses have been approved as a field specialist and specialized nurse practitioner by the newly revised legal regulation, there have been absence of approval of their role differentiation and capability. In addition, organizational activity and insufficient number of the public health nurses have contributed to the inactive utilization of them. As community public health is focused on caring individuals as well as organizations, it requires more autonomy and special skills than other fields. Therefore, public health nurses need to enhance the capability as health educator, consultant, and information management persons through advanced education course for public health nurses. Public health nurses need to be prepared as advanced nurse practitioners by receiving advanced education courses and field experiences.
