We summarize the status of exploitable groundwater reserves in Korea based on reports of the National Basic Groundwater Plan, and review methods for estimating groundwater recharge rates, as recharge is a key factor in the estimation of exploitable groundwater reserves. We also outline the various methods used to assess exploitable groundwater reserves in previous groundwater investigation reports. Regarding advancements in the estimation of exploitable groundwater, we recommend that enhanced estimation methodologies (e.g., the water balance method and the advanced water table fluctuation method) and sustainable groundwater management concepts be adopted in the near future.
Korea Water Resources Corporation (KOWACO) annually supplies about 2 billion Kwh and 7.3 billion $m^3$ with its 10 multi purpose dams and 20 water supply offices. For the proper control and management of the above utilities, sequential control equipment and SCADA/DCS have been operated and maintained. In this paper, 8 control system evaluations for hydropower dam, water supply, electric power and subway projects during 1984-1997 were reviewed and analyzed. The systematic evaluation method has been established in the points of the purpose, method, procedure, evaluation team, evaluation criteria, total evaluation table and the contents of final recommendation report. With keeping in mind the essential points, it is expected for the more effective and fair evaluation of bids.
An experiment was performed using the large-scale test facility (LSTF), which simulated a 1% vessel upper head small-break loss-of-coolant accident with an accident management (AM) measure under an assumption of total-failure of high-pressure injection (HPI) system in a pressurized water reactor (PWR). In the LSTF test, liquid level in the upper head affected break flow rate. Coolant was manually injected from the HPI system into cold legs as the AM measure when the maximum core exit temperature reached 623 K. The cladding surface temperature largely increased due to late and slow response of the core exit thermocouples. The AM measure was confirmed to be effective for the core cooling. The RELAP5/MOD3.3 code indicated insufficient prediction of primary coolant distribution. The author conducted uncertainty analysis for the LSTF test employing created phenomena identification and ranking table for each component. The author clarified that peak cladding temperature was largely dependent on the combination of multiple uncertain parameters within the defined uncertain ranges.
This study was objected to provide suggestions for best management practices to restore the cultural and historical values of the wells in Palaces as well as their water qualities. Water resources in the five Palaces in Seoul Metropolitan, including Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Changgyeonggung, Jongmyo Shrine, and Deoksugung, were surveyed for their physical flows and chemical compositions from April to July in 2010. Ground waters in most wells were found at depths within 5 m from the ground surface, showing typical water-table aquifer systems. Hydraulic gradients indicate water resources in Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, and Changgyeonggung flowing toward south, and toward east in Deoksugung area. Especially, water-level fluctuation data at S-10 in Deoksugung implied the influence of groundwater discharge facility. In Jongmyo Shrine, water was not detected in wells, indicating the water level was lower than the well depth. Based on the water chemistry and stable isotope analyses, water resources and their qualities appeared to be formed by the water-rock interaction along the groundwater paths. S-10 (Deoksugung) and S-14 (Changgyeonggung) samples were contaminated with nitrate ($NO_3$) in levels of higher than Korean drinking water standard, 10 mg/L as $NO_3$-N, but once in four sampling campaigns. In the situation that water resources in Palaces still maintain natural characteristics, the materials that will be used for the restoration and improvement of the Palace water supplies should be carefully selected not to disturb the natural integrity. In addition, because the wells are located in the center of metropolitan area, a systematic monitoring should be applied to detect and to manage the potential impacts of underground construction and various pollution sources.

During the past decades in South Korea, there have been several projects to reduce water demand and save water for paddy irrigation system by automation. This is called as intensive water management system by telemetering of paddy ponding depth and canal water level and telecontrol of water supply facilities. This study suggests a method of constructing topology-based irrigation network system using GIS tools. For the network modeling, a typical agricultural watershed included reservoirs, irrigation and drainage canals, pumping stations was selected. ArcHydro tools composed of edge, junction, waterbody and watershed were used to construct hydro-network. ArcHydro Model was then designed and the network was successfully built using the HydroID. Visualization using ArcHydro tools could display table property of each object. ArcHydro Model was linked to Agricultural Water Demamd and Supply Estimation System (AWDS) which developed by Korea Rural Community and Agriculture Corporation (KRC) to extract information of the study area. And menu of supply facilities information, demand analysis and supply analysis constructed for information acquisition and visualization of acquired informations.

When establishing the submarine optical fiber table between international and domestic, marine survey in advance it grasps the submarine geological features which is accurate and a depth of water condition. And the route which is safe for selecting and submarine optical fiber cable laying it is a work which secures an ease one location. If also, the PLGR the submarine of optical fiber table root the sea contamination material (rope, wire and net) it removes in advance and if the submarine of the optical fiber cable ease it does to arrive safely. And it is a work the Plough and ROV laying work hour laying work efficiency improvement and laying equipment it will be able to protect. So, This paper presents the monitoring system of ship information management and operation for marine survey and PLGR work in submarine optical fiber table construction enterprise. In order to achieve these purpose, overall serial multi-port communication modulo of configuration, realtime processing for management and operation of receiving data, realtime graph and a printout are described.

In case of hydrological observation system, Life time of facilities is different with operating environment and frequency of use. So, the durable year of the facilities is only considered to replace the facilities at present. Thus, system management is needed economical assesment based on condition evaluation through performance analysis of facilities. This research makes a proposal for scientific condition evaluation table through physical assessment, performance analysis assessment, durable years assessment about satellite communication facilities being used in K-water. Consequentially, reasonable replacement plan is established for satellite communication facilities.
In this study, we analyzed the value of Chl-a by histogram to classify the points where algal management is required. The degree of algal bloom by point was analyzed using the ogive curve, and the algal control points were classified into three stages according to the shape of the frequency distribution table. Of the four major rivers, low concentration of Chl-a appeared most frequently in the Han River, while the high concentration of Chl-a was frequently found at the points of the Geum and the Yeongsan Rivers. In the case of the Han River, no apprehensive areas were found thatrequire intensive management, while most points on the Geum and the Yeongsan Rivers required algal management. Finally, the Nakdong River basin was identified as points requiring algal management from the mid to downstream. The results of this study have confirmation of the possibility that the frequency distribution could be used as a supplementary indicator to express the algal bloom.

The analysis described in this paper indicate the existence of a correlationship for housing demand and water supply ratio. Using subjective statistical data for the trend of population on regional area, water supply ratio and the number of households, the paper examines the correlationship of forecasting factors for apartments in the ways in which the tendency of demands for apartments and water supply ratio have been analyzed within small and mediumsized city. Differences in the correlationship on the several scale of a city are also taken into account in the analysis. The summary table of the tendency for housing supplies, population and water supply ratio on each scale of a city was generated using data from LAIB. This study attempted to address certain factors that are measurable within a specified paradigm, in order to investigate the extent to which the expectation of apartment supplies can be estimated from the correlationship of water supply ratio. Therefore, it can be suggested that the limited scale of a city are set to maintain the correlationship for housing demands and water supply ratio.
Soil problems and agricultural water management of the reclaimed land in Korea were reviewed through research results conducted in RDA and ADC. According to the Korean Soil Classification and Soil Survey(NIAST, 2002), the 5 soil orders with the 45 soil series were distributed on the fluvio-marine or marine deposit of the west and south coastal plains. Yeompo, Munpo, Hasa, Gwangwhal, and Poseung soil series were most commonly distributed soil on the fluvio-marine deposits, associated with tideland of the sea coast. Former 4 soils were Entisols, and the latest one was the Inceptisols. Buyong soil associated with Poseung series was an Alfisols. Extent of Myeongji soil, a Molisols, and Yongho soil, a Histosol, were minor. Salinity control and management problems were closely related with high water table and low percolation rate due to plow-pan layer developed during the leaching process in the silty textured soil. For evaluation of field salinity, use of an electromagnetic inductance, EM38, with GPS was helpful to understand salinity status and field variability. Deep plowing, subsoiling and drainage improvement by tile drainage might be effective in paddy with plow-pan. New technology such as variable rate fertilization might save fertilizers and thus reduce environmental impact of agriculture on water quality. Water quality of agricultural water resources in reclaimed land was less adequate than that of inland water resources. Proper crop management is necessary depended upon quality for crop growth as well as to match with water quality target.
