  • Let D be an integral domain, X an indeterminate over D, $N_v = \{f{\in}D[X]|(A_f)_v=D\}.$. Among other things, we introduce the concept of t-locally PVDs and prove that $D[X]N_v$ is a locally PVD if and only if D is a t-locally PVD and a UMT-domain, if and only if D[X] is a t-locally PVD, if and only if each overring of $D[X]N_v$ is a locally PVD.

  • Let D be an integral domain with Spec(D) finite, K the quotient field of D, [D,K] the set of rings between D and K, and SFc(D) the set of semistar operations of finite character on D. It is well known that |Spec(D)| ${\leq}$ |SFc(D)|. In this paper, we prove that |Spec(D)| = |SFc(D)| if and only if D is a valuation domain, if and only if |Spec(D)| = |[D,K]|. We also study integral domains D such that |Spec(D)|+1 = |SFc(D)|.

  • The purpose of this paper is to introduce a new class of rings that is closely related to the class of pseudo-Krull domains. Let 𝓗 = {R | R is a commutative ring and Nil(R) is a divided prime ideal of R}. Let R ∈ 𝓗 be a ring with total quotient ring T(R) and define 𝜙 : T(R) → RNil(R) by ${\phi}({\frac{a}{b}})={\frac{a}{b}}$ for any a ∈ R and any regular element b of R. Then 𝜙 is a ring homomorphism from T(R) into RNil(R) and 𝜙 restricted to R is also a ring homomorphism from R into RNil(R) given by ${\phi}(x)={\frac{x}{1}}$ for every x ∈ R. We say that R is a 𝜙-pseudo-Krull ring if 𝜙(R) = ∩ Ri, where each Ri is a nonnil-Noetherian 𝜙-pseudo valuation overring of 𝜙(R) and for every non-nilpotent element x ∈ R, 𝜙(x) is a unit in all but finitely many Ri. We show that the theories of 𝜙-pseudo Krull rings resemble those of pseudo-Krull domains.

  • Let R be a commutative ring with identity. In this paper, we characterize the prime submodules of a free R-module F of finite rank with at most n generators, when R is a GCD domain. Also, we show that if R is a Bézout domain, then every prime submodule with n generators is the row space of a prime matrix. Finally, we study the existence of primary decomposition of a submodule of F over a Bézout domain and characterize the minimal primary decomposition of this submodule.

  • Let S and T be w-linked extension domains of a domain R with S ⊆ T. In this paper, we define what satisfying the wR-GD property for S ⊆ T means and what being wR- or w-GD domains for T means. Then some sufficient conditions are given for the wR-GD property and wR-GD domains. For example, if T is wR-integral over S and S is integrally closed, then the wR-GD property holds. It is also given that S is a wR-GD domain if and only if S ⊆ T satisfies the wR-GD property for each wR-linked valuation overring T of S, if and only if S ⊆ (S[u])w satisfies the wR-GD property for each element u in the quotient field of S, if and only if S𝔪 is a GD domain for each maximal wR-ideal 𝔪 of S. Then we focus on discussing the relationship among GD domains, w-GD domains, wR-GD domains, Prüfer domains, PνMDs and PwRMDs, and also provide some relevant counterexamples. As an application, we give a new characterization of PwRMDs. We show that S is a PwRMD if and only if S is a wR-GD domain and every wR-linked overring of S that satisfies the wR-GD property is wR-flat over S. Furthermore, examples are provided to show these two conditions are necessary for PwRMDs.

  • Let V be any valuation domain and let E be a subset of the quotient field K of V. We study the ring of integer-valued polynomials on E, that is, Int(E, V)={f$\in$K[X]|f(E)⊆V}. We show that, if E is precompact, then Int(E, V) has many properties similar to those of the classical ring Int(Z).In particular, Int(E, V) is dense in the ring of continuous functions C(E, V); each finitely generated ideal of Int(E, V) may be generated by two elements; and finally, Int(E, V) is a Prufer domain.

  • It is well known that an integral domain D is a UFD if and only if every nonzero prime ideal of D contains a nonzero principal prime. This is the so-called Kaplansky's theorem. In this paper, we give this type of characterizations of a graded PvMD (resp., G-GCD domain, GCD domain, $B{\acute{e}}zout$ domain, valuation domain, Krull domain, ${\pi}$-domain).

  • Let D be an integral domain, $D^w$ be the $w$-integral closure of D, X be an indeterminate over D, and $N_v=\{f{\in}D[X]{\mid}c(f)_v=D\}$. In this paper, we introduce the concept of $t$-locally APVD. We show that D is a $t$-locally APVD and a UMT-domain if and only if D is a $t$-locally APVD and $D^w$ is a $PvMD$, if and only if D[X] is a $t$-locally APVD, if and only if $D[X]_{N_v}$ is a locally APVD.

  • Let R be a domain with quotient field K and prime subring A. Then R is integral over each of its subrings having quotient field K if and only if (A, R) is a survival pair. This shows the redundancy of a condition involving going-down pairs in a earlier characterization of such rings. In characteristic 0, the domains being characterized are the rings R that are isomorphic to subrings of the ring of all algebraic integers. In positive (prime) characteristic, the domains R being characterized are of two kinds: either R = K is an algebraic field extension of A or precisely one valuation domain of K does not contain R.

  • We prove that a maximal ideal M of D[x] has two generators and is of the form where p is an irreducible element in a PID D having infinitely many nonassociate irreducible elements and q(x) is an irreducible non-constant polynomial in D[x]. Moreover, we find how minimal generators of maximal ideals of a polynomial ring D[x] over a DVR D consist of and how many generators those maximal ideals have.
