  • We propose an interactive projection technique to display details of a large image in a high resolution and brightness by tracking a portable projector. A closed-loop based tracking method is presented to update the projected image while a user changes the position of the detail area by moving the portable projector. A marker is embedded in the large image to indicate the position to be occupied by the detail image projected by the portable projector. The marker is extracted in sequential images acquired by a camera attached to the portable projector. The marker position in the large display image is updated under a constraint that the center positions of marker and camera frame coincide in every camera frame. The image and projective transformation for warping are calculated using the marker position and shape in the camera frame. The marker's four corner points are determined by a four-step segmentation process which consists of camera image preprocessing based on HSI, edge extraction by Hough transformation, quadrangle test, and cross-ratio test. The interactive projection system implemented by the proposed method performs at about 24fps. In the user study, the overall feedback about the system usability was very high.

  • Background: Osteomyelitis is an intraosseous inflammatory disease characterized by progressive inflammatory osteoclasia and ossification. The use of quantitative analysis to assist interpretation of osteomyelitis is increasingly being considered. The objective of this study was to perform early diagnosis of osteomyelitis on digital panoramic radiographs using basic functions provided by picture archiving and communication system (PACS), a program used to show radiographic images. Methods: This study targeted a total of 95 patients whose symptoms were confirmed as osteomyelitis under clinical, radiologic, pathological diagnosis over 11 years from 2008 to 2017. Five categorized patients were osteoradionecrosis, bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of jaw (BRONJ, suppurative and sclerosing type), and bacterial osteomyelitis (suppurative and sclerosing type), and the control group was 117 randomly sampled. The photographic density in a certain area of the digital panoramic radiograph was determined and compared using the "measure area rectangle," one of the basic PACS functions in INFINITT PACS® (INFINITT Healthcare, Seoul, South Korea). A conditional inference tree, one type of decision making tree, was generated with the program R for statistical analysis with SPSS®. Results: In the conditional inference tree generated from the obtained data, cases where the difference in average value exceeded 54.49 and the difference in minimum value was less than 54.49 and greater than 12.81 and the difference in minimum value exceeded 39 were considered suspicious of osteomyelitis. From these results, the disease could be correctly classified with a probability of 88.1%. There was no difference in photographic density value of BRONJ and bacterial osteomyelitis; therefore, it was not possible to classify BRONJ and bacterial osteomyelitis by quantitative analysis of panoramic radiographs based on existing research. Conclusions: This study demonstrates that it is feasible to measure photographic density using a basic function in PACS and apply the data to assist in the diagnosis of osteomyelitis.

  • In an attempt to evaluate the nutritional quality of seaweed protein, the effects of heat treatment on the in vitro digestibility and trypsin inhibitor content in seaweed were determined. In this study, the nitrogen-to-protein conversion factors were also calculated on the basis of quantitative amino acid data. The results are as follows : 1. The in vitro protein digestbilty of red seaweeds (P. teoera anc P. suborbiculata) were ranged from 78.5 to 82.2, and green seawerd (E. linza) and brown seaweeds showed value under 80 in vitro digestibility. In general, trypsin inhibitor contents in brown seaweed were higher (0.33-0.54 mg/g) than those of red seaweeds (0.26-0.39 mg/g). And it is noted that the lowest trypsin inhibitor content was shown in green seaweed (E. linza) in spite of lowest in spite digestibility (78.5). 2. The in vitro protein digestibility of sun dried laver (P. tenera) was increased with cooling time (microwave heating), but it was not significant. Hot plate cooking raised the in vitro digestibility from 81. 1 to 84.5. The influence pot cooking time on trypsin inhibitor content was inversely proportional to in vitro digestibility. 3. Computed nitrogen factor, based on amino acid content (Factor method) and Kjeldahl nitrogen content (Kjeldahl mettled), were 5.83 (H. fusiforme)- 6.52 (P. tencra) as Factor method and 5.40 (U. pinnatifida)-6.29 (P. tenera) as Kjeldahl method. Individual value for each nitrogen conversion factor differed by species, especially in brown seaweeds. The best estimate of the protein content of seaweed can be calculated, from multiplying the summed amino acid content by conversion factor (Factor method).

  • The series of solid solutions in the $Sr_{1+x}Ho_{1-x}FeO_{4-y}$ (x = 0.00, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75 and 1.00) systems with $K_2NiF_4$ type structure have been prepared at 1550$^{\circ}$C under an atmospheric air pressure. The X-ray powder diffraction spectra of these samples assign that the crystallographic phases are tetragonal system over the whole x range. The lattice volume was increased with increasing the substitution amount of the $Sr^{2+}$ ion. The mole ratio of the $Fe^{4+}$ ion to total iron ions or ${\tau}$ value has been determined by Mohr salt titration of the sample and then the y value was calculated from x and ${\tau}$ values. The ${\tau}$ and y values have been increased with x values. The nonstoichiometric chemical formula are formulated from the general formula of $Sr_{1+x}Ho_{1-x}Fe^3_{1-}\;^+_{\tau}Fe_{\tau}^{4+}O_{4-y}$ replaced by x,${\tau}$ and y values. Mossbauer spectra show the mixed valence state and coordination state of $Fe^{3+}\;and\;Fe^{4+}$ ions. It is found out that the magnetic property of the samples is paramagnetic at room temperature. Electrical conductivity varied within the semiconductivity range of 1.0 to 1 ${\times}\;10^{-9}{\Omega}^{-1}cm^{-1}$. Activation energy of the electrical conductivity was decreased with the $\tau$ value. The conduction mechanism should be explained by the hopping model of the conduction electrons between the valence states of $Fe^{3+}\;and\;Fe^{4+}$ ions.

  • The analytical response properties of two types of continuous flow-through electrode system as fulfide ion detectors are examined and directly compared their reponse characteristics under the optimal conditions. In both detection systems, observed peak potentials are logarithmically related to the sulfide ion concentration and at least twenty samples per hour can be determined. In the pH electrode method, the pH of the flowing recipient stream leaving the dialyzer was monitored. The designed system involves the use of continuous flow gas dialyzer in conjunction with the tubular polymer membrane electrode. In this method, optimal experimental conditions are recipient of mixture of $5.0 {\times} 10^{-5} M NaOH + 5.0 {\times} 10^{-3} M$ NaCl and diluent of 0.10 M $H_2SO_4$, and all flow rates of recipient stream, diluent stream, and sample are 1.0 ml/min. In the sulfide ion electrode method, a commercially available sulfide ion-selective electrode was used to detect sulfide ion in the flow-through cell. The optimal flow rates of sulfide anti-oxidant buffer (3.5 g ascorbic acid and 7.6 g $Na_2EDTA$ dissolved in 1.0 M NaOH solution 1 l) and sample were 1.4 ml/min and 1.0 ml/min, respectively.

  • This study explores methods for modeling the foundation-seabed interaction needed for the load analysis of an offshore wind energy system. It comprises the comparison study of foundation design load analyses for NREL 5 MW turbine according to various soil-foundation interaction models by conducting the load analysis with GH-Bladed, analysis software for offshore wind energy systems. Furthermore, the results of the aforementioned load analysis were applied to foundation analysis software called L-Pile to conduct a safety review of the foundation cross-section design. Differences in the cross-section of a monopile foundation were observed based on the results of the fixed model, winkler spring and coupled spring models, and the analysis of design load cases, including DLC 1.3, DLC 6.1a, and DLC 6.2a. Consequently, under all design load conditions, the diameter and thickness of the monopile foundation cross-section were found to be 7 m and 80 mm, respectively, using the fixed and coupled spring models; the results of the analysis conducted using the winkler spring model showed that the diameter and thickness of the monopile foundation cross-section were 5 m and 60 mm, respectively. The study found that the soil-foundation interaction modeling method had a significant impact on the load analysis results, which determined the cross-section of a foundation. Based on this study, it is anticipated that designing an offshore wind energy system foundation taking the above impact into account would reduce the possibility of a conservative or unconservative design of the foundation.

  • The quantity of noxious wastes generated by the growth in industrialization and population in all over the world and its potential hazards in subsurface environments are becoming increasingly significant. The extraction of the contaminant from the soil and movement of the water are restricted due to the low permeability and adsorption characteristics of the reclaimed soils. Incorporated technique with PVDs have been used for dewatering from fine-grained soils for the purpose of ground improvement by means of soil flushing and soil vapor extraction systems. This paper is to evaluate several key parameters that affected to the performance of the PVDs specifically with regard to: well resistance of PVD, zone of influence, and smear effects. In the feasibility of contaminant remediation was evaluated in pilot-scale laboratory experiments. Well resistance is affected on the vertical discharge capacity of the PVDs under the various vacuum pressures. The discharge capacity increases consistently in areal extents with higher applied vacuum up to a limiting vacuum pressure. The head values for each piezometer at different vacuum pressures show that the largest head loss occurs within 14 cm of the PVD. Air flow rates and head losses were measured for the PVD placed in the model test box and the gas permeability of the silty soils was calculated. Increasing the equivalent diameter results in a decrease in the calculated gas permeability. It is concluded that the gas permeability determined over the 1,500 to 2,000 $cm^3/s$ flow rates are the most accurate values which yields gas permeability of about 3.152 Darcy.

  • An investigation was carried out to study the characteristics of lipoxygenase in dioctyl sulfosuccinate (aerosol-OT, AOT)/isooctane revered micelles of microaqueous system containing infinitesimal water. ${\alpha}-Linoleic$ acid as a substrate could be analyzed by the colorimetric methodology using 5%(w/v) cupric acetate-pyridine solution and the activity of lipoxygenase was able to be assayed by the degree of ${\alpha}-linoleic$ acid consumption per minute. Optimal pH, temperature, and R-value ([water]/[AOT]) were determined as the value of 5.0, $25^{\circ}C$, and 10.0, respectively. Kinetic analysis of the enzyme reaction under the optimal conditions showed that the values of $K_m$ and $V_{max}$ were 0.31 mM of ${\alpha}-linoleic$ acid and $384.16{\mu}mol$ of ${\alpha}-linoleic$ acid decomposed/min, respectively. The results indicate the reaction to be lipoxygenase-catalyzed oxidation of ${\alpha}-linoleic$ acid in AOT/isooctane reversed micellar system. The inhibitory effect of natural antioxidants on lipoxygenase showed little inhibitory effect of L-ascrobic acid while ${\alpha}-tocopherol$ showed 72% of inhibitory effect.

  • The main purpose of the current research is to introduce the alternative algorithm of the non-recursive batch filter based on the unscented transformation in which the linearization process is unnecessary. The presented algorithm is applied to the orbit determination of a low earth orbiting satellite and compared its results with those of the well-known Bayesian batch least squares estimation and the iterative UKF smoother (IUKS). The system dynamic equations consist of the Earth's geo-potential, the atmospheric drag, solar radiation pressure and the lunar/solar gravitational perturbations. The range, azimuth and elevation angles of the satellite measured from ground stations are used for orbit determination. The characteristics of the non recursive unscented batch filter are analyzed for various aspects, including accuracy of the determined orbit, sensitivity to the initial uncertainty, measurement noise and stability performance in a realistic dynamic system and measurement model. As a result, under large non-linear conditions, the presented non-recursive batch filter yields more accurate results than the other batch filters about 5% for initial uncertainty test and 12% for measurement noise test. Moreover, the presented filter exhibits better convergence reliability than the Bayesian least squares. Hence, it is concluded that the non-recursive batch filter based on the unscented transformation is effectively applicable for highly nonlinear batch estimation problems.

  • The rare-earth orthoborate family, RM3(BO3)4 is known to be the most promising material for the microlaser host. To grow LaSc3(BO3)4 single crystal, the phase relation of the system LaBO3-ScBO3 was investigated by DTA method. LaSc(BO3)4 was the unique intermediate compound in the binary system the peritectic reaction point of which was 1495 ±2℃. Owing to the peritectic behavior of the compound, the crystal growth of the rare-earth Sc-borate was carried out by pulling from the melt-soultion of La1+xSc3-x(BO3)4. The optimal conditions for the growth of LaSc3(BO3)4 were determined by traditional CZ method : pulling speed 0.7mm/hr, rotation speed 7-10 rpm under reduction condition. Pt and Ir crucibles could be used for about 8-10 times of growth. The effect of thermal configurations on the temperature distribution was investigated. A special two-coordinate manipulator was made for the precise movement of thermocouples from the melt to the top of the furnace for several thermal configurations. The radial gradient on the melt surface depends strongly on the construction of the afterheater. On the other hand, the axial gradient was mainly propotional to both the opening degree of baffle plate and the mutual positions of crucible and heater.
