In this paper, a unified time-dependent constitutive model of Darcy flow and non-Darcy flow is proposed. The influencing factors of flow velocity are discussed, which demonstrates that permeability coefficient is the most significant factor. Based on this, the dynamic evolution characteristics of water inrush during tunneling through fault fracture zone is analyzed under the constant permeability coefficient condition (CPCC). It indicates that the curves of flow velocity and hydrostatic pressure can be divided into typical three stages: approximate high-velocity zone inside the fault fracture zone, velocity-rising zone near the tunnel excavation face and attenuation-low velocity zone in the tunnel. Furthermore, given the variation of permeability coefficient of the fault fracture zone with depth and time, the dynamic evolution of water flow in the fault fracture zone under the variable permeability coefficient condition (VPCC) is also studied. The results show that the time-related factor (α) affects the dynamic evolution distribution of flow velocity with time, the depth-related factor (A) is the key factor to the dynamic evolution of hydrostatic pressure.

We determined the effects of starvation, water temperature, and water flow on the onset of metamorphosis in leptocephali of the Japanese eel Anguilla japonica. Leptocephali larger than 50 mm (ca. 200 days old) were reared in 10-L tanks under different feeding, water temperature, and water flow regimes. Fasted leptocephali metamorphosed earlier and faster than did the fed ones. Metamorphosis was faster in the high water flow tank (1.2 L/min) than in the tank with flow at 0.6 L/min. The duration of metamorphosis was slightly shorter at $26^{\circ}C$ than at $23^{\circ}C$. To conclude, starvation induced the metamorphosis of artificially produced leptocephali larger than 50 mm TL. Increased water flow and water temperature both appear to induce and shorten metamorphosis.

It was evaluated that the effect of turbidity removal by Pore Controllable Fiber Filter(PCF) installed in NS(Naksang) small water treatmant plant(system) using under flow water as raw water in the study. The results of the study are as the followings. Firstly, the removal efficiency of turbidity by PCF without coagulation(in operation mode not using coagulants) was mostly below 20 percent. On the other hand, when operation using proper coagulants, that of turbidity was mostly over 80 percent. Secondly, slow sand filtration after PCF, total turbidity removal efficiency of final treated water was 84.3 percent, and the contribution by PCF was 57.1 percent and that of slow sand filtration was 27.7 percent. Therefore the introduction of PCF as pre-treatment process would be helpful to reduce the loading of high turbidity of slow sand filtration. Thirdly, the results of particle counter measurements showed that when operated PCF with coagulants, fine flocs captured or adsorbed at the pore of PCF were flow out into the effluents from 120 minutes after backwashing because of the increase of headloss of PCF. Therefore the decision of backwashing time should made consideration into the outflow of fine flocs from PCF. Fourth, coagulant dosages on PCF at the same turbidity was largely variable because of the effect of the raw water characteristics and the turbidity increase velocity at rainy days, therefore flexible coagulant dosages should be considered rather than fixed coagulant dosage by the influent jar-test result.

The thermal performance of cooling towers is affected by the temperature of inlet water, wet bulb temperature of entering air add water-air flow rate. In this study, the effects of these variables are simulated using NTU-method and experimentally investigated for the counter-flow cooling towers. The simulation program to evaluate these variables which affect the performance of cooling tower was developed. The maximum errors between the results of simulations and experiments were 3.8% under the standard design conditions and 5.4% under the other conditions. The performance was increased up to 46~50% as the water loading was increased from $6.8m^3$/$hr\cdot m^2$ to $15.9m^3$/$hr\cdot m^2$. The range was reduced up to 56~42% when the wet bulb temperature of the entering air was increased from $22^{\circ}C\; to\; 29^{\circ}C.$
Direct water quenching technique can be used in hot stamping process to obtain higher cooling rate compared to that of the normal die cooling method. In the direct water quenching process, setting proper water flow rate in consideration of material thickness and the size of the area directly cooled in the component is important to ensure uniform microstructure and mechanical properties. In this study, to derive proper water flow rate conditions that can achieve uniform microstructure and mechanical properties, microstructure and hardness distribution in various water flow rate conditions are measured for 3.2 mm thick boron steel sheet. Hardness distribution is uniform under the flow condition of 1.5 L/min or higher. However, due to the lower cooling rate in that area, the lower flow conditions result in a drastic decrease in hardness in some areas in the hot-stamped part, resulting in low martensite fraction. From these results, it is found that the selection of proper water flow rate is an important factor in hot stamping with direct water quenching process to ensure uniform mechanical properties.

The impacts of turbidity flow induced by summer rainfall events on water supply, aquatic ecosystems, and socioeconomics are significant and major concerns in most of reservoirs operations. As a decision support tool, the real-time turbidity flow monitoring and modeling system RTMMS is under development using a laterally integrated two-dimensional (2D) hydrodynamic and water quality model. The objectives of this paper is to present the preliminary field observation results on the characteristics of rainfall-induced turbidity flows and their density flow regimes, and the model performance in replicating the fate and transport of turbidity plume in a reservoir. The rainfall-induced turbidity flows caused significant drop of river water temperature by 5 to $10^{\circ}C$ and resulted in density differences of 1.2 to $2.6kg/m^3$ between inflow water and ambient reservoir water, which consequently led development of density flows such as plunge flow and interflow in the reservoir. The 2D model was set up for the reservoir. and applied to simulate the temperature stratification, density flow regimes, and temporal and spatial turbidity distributions during flood season of 2004 After intensive refinements on grid resolutions , the model showed efficient and satisfactory performance in simulating the observed reservoir thermal stratification and turbidity profiles that all are essentially required to enhance the performance of RTMMS.
Two climate change scenarios, the RCP (Representative Concentration Pathways) 4.5 and the RCP 8.5 in the fifth Assessment Report (AR5) by Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), were applied in the Yocheon basin area using the SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) model to estimate changes in flow rates and pollutant loadings in the future. Field stream flow rate data in Songdong station and water quality data in Yocheon-1 station between 2013~2015 were used for model calibration. While $R^2$ value of flow rate calibration was 0.85 and $R^2$ value of water qualities were in the 0.12~0.43 range. The total study period was divided into 4 sub periods as 2030s (2016~2040), 2050s (2041~2070) and 2080s (2071~2100). The predicted results of flow rates and water quality concentrations were compared with results in calibrated periods, 2015s (2013~2015). In both RCP scenarios, flow rate and TSS (Total Suspended Solid) loadings were estimated to be in increasing trend while TN (Total Nitrogen) and TP (Total Phosphorus) loadings showed decreasing patterns. Also, flow rates and pollutant loadings showed larger differences between the maximum and the minimum values in RCP 4.5 than RCP 8.5 scenarios indicating more severe effect of drought and flood, respectively. Dependent on simulation period and rainfall periods in a year, flow rate, TSS, TN and TP showed different trends in each scenario. This emphasizes importance of considerations on time and space when analyzing climate change impacts of each variable under various scenarios.
Proton exchange membrane fuel cell performance is changed by the complicated physical phenomenon. In this study, water discharge performance of proton exchange membrane fuel cell were performed numerically to compare serpentine channel flow fields of 5-pass 4-turn serpentine and 25 $cm^2$ reaction surface between with and without sub-channel at the rib. Through the supplement of sub channel flow field, it is shown from the results that water removal characteristic inside channel improves because the flow direction of under-rib convection is changed into the sub channel. Reacting gases supplied from entrance disperse into sub channel flow field and electrochemical reaction occurs uniformly over the reaction surface. The results obtained that total current density distributions become uniform because residence time of reacting gases traveling to sub-channel flow field is longer than to main channel.

Irrigation return flow is defined as the excess of irrigation water that is not evapotranspirated by direct surface drainage, and which returns to an aquifer. It is important to quantitatively estimate the irrigation return flow of the water cycle in an agricultural watershed. However, the previous studies on irrigation return flow rates are limitations in quantifying the return flow rate by region. Therefore, simulating irrigation return flow by accounting for various water loss rates derived from agricultural practices is necessary while the hydrologic and hydraulic modeling of cultivated canal-irrigated watersheds. In this study, the irrigation return flow rate of agricultural water, especially for the entire agricultural watershed, was estimated using the SWMM (Storm Water Management Model) module from 2010 to 2019 for the Madun reservoir located in Anseong, Gyeonggi-do. The results of SWMM simulation and water balance analysis estimated irrigation return flow rate. The estimated average annual irrigation return flow ratio during the period from 2010 to 2019 was approximately 55.3% of the annual irrigation amounts of which 35.9% was rapid return flow and 19.4% was delayed return flow. Based on these results, the hydrologic and hydraulic modeling approach can provide a valuable approach for estimating the irrigation return flow under different hydrological and water management conditions.
The main objective of this study is to investigate experimentally the two-phase flow characteristics in terms of the direct contact condensation of a steam-water stratified flow in a horizontal rectangular channel. Experiments were performed for both air-water and steam-water flows with a cocurrent flow configuration. This work presents the local temperature and velocity distributions in a water layer as well as the interfacial characteristics of both condensing and noncondensing fluid flows. The gas superficial velocity varied from 1.2 m/s to 2.0 m/s for air and from 1.2 m/s to 2.8 m/s for steam under a fixed inlet water superficial velocity of 0.025 m/s. Some advanced measurement methods have been applied to measure the local characteristics of the water layer thickness, temperature, and velocity fields in a horizontal stratified flow. The instantaneous velocity and temperature fields inside the water layer were measured using laser-induced fluorescence and particle image velocimetry, respectively. In addition, the water layer thickness was measured through an ultrasonic method.
