Building Information Modeling (BIM) provides many advantages when it is adopted in virtual design construction, to analyze constructability, etc. For this reason, advanced countries have made it mandatory to adopt BIM in public construction projects. The Korea Public Procurement Service announced that from 2016, BIM adoption will be mandatory in every construction project in Korea. Currently, however, it is not possible to fully adopt BIM in the building design process domestically because BIM-based systems have not been used broadly in Korea's building approval system (Seumter). In this research, four challenges were drawn from a focus group interview. Focusing on tackling one challenge, this paper reviewed previous research into building approval systems and the building approval systems of Singapore, the U.K. and the U.S., and identified elements of the building approval application process and presents a system to create and manage the information. The system supports the creation and management of information and 2D drawings from an IFC-based BIM model. We expect that the system will encourage designers to use BIM from the beginning of the design process and ultimately increase the efficiency of design in a BIM-based project.
Embedded industry has emerged as one of the important industry for u-IT based application service. Technology development related to embedded hardware and software provides the base for the development of U-IT convergence industry. This study intends to suggest a research model to investigate the influence of industry, organization, technology factors on technology performance in the embedded companies. This study adopted research variables such as global network, local network, industry intensity, and technology capability as independent variables, with technology performance as a dependent variable from the existing literatures. The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of industrial and organizational factors on technology performance of embedded companies SCM systems, including the moderating effect of government support. 94 companies data were collected by survey. The result of this empirical study is summarized as follows. First, local network and technology capability are the important determinants to influence technology performance of embedded companies in direct effect model. Second, global network and industry intensity has more positive influence on technology performance of embedded companies through a moderating variable of government support.
With the proliferation of advanced wireless network and sensor technologies, smart devices under USN(ubiquitous sensor network) environment are capable of collecting context information such as temperature, humidity, weight, and location about objects at real time. Therefore, applications must be able to analyze collected information and notify useful information to wanted users timely. This service can be realized by implementing an event-based middleware. In the middleware, event messages collected from physical environment will be filtered according to profiles that users define in advance and the result will be sent to the interested users. In this paper, we present XML-based event model, ECA-based profile model, and the architecture of an event-based middleware suitable to USN environment. We will also model and describe them using the examples of logistics area. By implementing the system based on the design above, the middleware enable applications or users to easily access to physical sources. The proposed middleware can also apply to not only logistics area but also other various areas under USN environment such as intelligent traffic control system, national disaster management system and u-medical system.
There is a trend toward the world's manufacturing sites moving to East Asia. After manufacture, these products are transported to the advanced nations for their consumption demands. Among such advanced nations, the U.S.A. has the largest demand, and then Japan and European countries follow. It should be noted that the infrastructures of the Asian districts used for the production sites are rather limited, and the volume of products transported from these districts of Asia to the U.S.A is becoming tremendously large. This situation is causing very serious traffic problems. New products are required to be transported swiftly by air. Once the consumption and market demands are stable however, the products should be sent rather slowly, but in larger amounts. However, the airports of China are quite restricted in capacity, while the transportation volume is becoming large. As a result, transportation cost and the time required for transportation are increasing. Now, a third method is appearing. This is the so-called Sea and Air transportation. The cost and time in transit of this mode take mean positions between Air and Ocean services. At present there exists no well-thought-out strategy for how to allocate these three methods of transportation. This paper is an attempt to theoretically describe this mechanism and to discover the optimal way to allocate the three modes. For this purpose, several mathematical properties of value and cost of the products are defined, and on this basis a simulation of the transportation is established.
The purpose of this study was to identify the difference of creativity according to the type of brain dominance for deveoping pre-service early childhood teachers's creativity teacher education program. The subjects of this study were 210 pre-service early childhood teachers. The tests were conducted by using the Herrmann' BDI and TTCT: verbal. The study have applied Pearson product-moment correlation to find out relation between the type of brain dominance and creativity, and used multi-variate analysis to find out the difference of creativity according to the type of brain dominance. The results of the study are as follow; first, the upper left brain, lower left limb, and right brains had no relation to fluency, flexibility, originality and overall linguistic creativity. The lower right limb showed a positive correlation with fluency, flexibility, originality, and overall linguistic creativity. Second, the lower left, upper right lower, and lower right limb dominant teachers showed higher fluency, flexibility, originality and overall linguistic creativity than upper left neural dominant teachers. The result of analyzing the language creativity according to the type of brain dominance of the pre-service early childhood teachers will be used as a suggestion to develop the brain-based creativity teacher education program.
The U.S. response to increased international competition was examined in the present study in order to have more comprehensive understanding of the U.S. textile and clothing market. The method employed to conduct the study was the analysis of the written materials, interview with professionals, and the survey of the actual situations of the U.S. textile and apparel industries. The results are summarized as follows; 1. Official U.S. textile and apparel trade policy has been quite has been quite protective since 1950's. The protective trend has been embodied in Japan Cotton Textile Export Control (reciprocal trade agreement signed by the U.S. and Japan in 1957), Short Term Arrangement Regarding International Trade in Cotton Textiles, Long Term Cotton Textile Arrangement (1962∼1973), and Multi-fiber Arrangement (1974∼). Other governmental programs designed to improve the competitiveness of the U.S. textile and apparel industries include Long-term Textile and Apparel Products Export-expansion Program, and 807 Trade to take labor cost advantage. 2. Along with the quite protective governmental trade policy, the corporate responses have been made such as new sourcing mixes, investment in technology, specialization in the textile and apparel industries, and recent strategies pursued by retailer's. The apparel industry was subject to pressure from imports that increased at moderate levels, and the U.S. textile and apparel industries have made extensive efforts to adjust to the increasing competition from abroad. The textile and apparel industries have taken steps to increase labor productivity through automation, to speed management to create and introduce new products and new methods, and have lowered indirect overhead costs. Several industrywide promotion campaigns have attempted to establish a greater public awareness of international competition and to develop a preference for apparel produced in the United States. 3. Regarding these response of the U.S. and other situations of world textile and apparel trade market, much of the sense of crisis that pervades Korean textile and apparel industries has to do with the problem of adjusting government and corporate policy. Textile and apparel industry of Korea faces on going pressure to reduce costs, improve quality, increase service, develop new markets, diversify, and differentiate itself from its foreign competitors. The strategies that have been adopted in the past have generally worked in the past, but the time has come to adopt strategies that reflect present conditions. If this is not done, then we stand to lose large segments of these industries, which once lost will not easily be regenerated.
Initiatives for corporate social responsibility (CSR) have often served as sources of competitive advantage in the business world. Although the adoption of CSR practices in the hotel industry continues to increase, empirical research on the relationship between them and financial performance in the industryremains scarce. The purpose of this study was to ascertain the effects of various dimensions of CSR on the financial performance of corporations in the U.S. hotel industry. Data include Kinder, Lydenburg & Domini social performance scores and Compustat data of hotels from 1991 to 2015 identified using a Standard Industrial Classification code. Results of ordinary least squares regression using Stata revealed that efforts toward CSR have significantly affected the financial performance of numerous hotels. Such findings can initiate discussions and inspire future research on CSR in the hospitality industry.
Purpose - The Korean government has devised intermodal transportation policies and granted subsidies to shippers and logistics companies that made a conversion of transportation means through the policies. This provides support by expanding the complex uniform railroad transportation and overhauling the deteriorated railroad facilities. As for 2013, however, the freight transportation percentage of railroad was 4.5% in tons and 8.5% in ton kilometers. Meanwhile, since the 1990s, developed countries such as the U.S. and Europe have been trying to expand intermodal freight transport with a legal and institutional support to build a logistics system corresponding with social and economic environmental changes. In this study, I set out to examine the effects of the intermodal freight transport policies in the EU and the U.S., and to explore the direction of setting up a rail intermodal transport system in South Korea. Research design, data, and methodology - The paper used a qualitative research methodology through the literature review. First, was an overview of Intermodal transportation in the EU, U.S. and UN. Second, it describes the development of transport in Europe and the U.S. with particular emphasis on intermodal freight transport. Third, it explores the direction of setting up a intermodal freight transport in South Korea. The last section contains concluding remarks. Results - As for the EU, it has been promoting integration between transport and intermodal logistics network designs while utilizing ITS or ICT and supports for rail freight intermodal by giving reduction to a facilities fee or subsidizing for rail freight in order to minimize the cost of external due to freight transport. On the other hand, as for the U.S., it has been made up of an industrial-led operating project and has been promoting it to improve accessibility between intermodal hubs and cargo terminals through intermodal corridor program, and an intermodal cargo hub access corridor projects, etc. Moreover, it has tried to construct intermodal transport system using ITS or ICT and to remove Barrier. As a result, in these countries, the proportion of intermodal freight transport is going to be the second significant transport compared with rail and maritime transport. An Effective rail intermodal transport system is needed in South Korea, as seen in the case of these countries. In order to achieve this object, the following points are required to establish radical infrastructure policy; diversify investment financing measures taken under public-private partnerships, legal responsibilities, improvement of utilization of existing facilities to connect the railway terminal and truck terminal, and enhancement service competitiveness through providing cargo tracking and security information that combines the ITS and ICT. Conclusions - This study will be used as a basis for policy and support for intermodal freight transport in South Korea. In the future, it is also necessary to examine from the perspective of the shipper companies using the rail intermodal transport, ie, recognition of shipper, needed institutional supports, and transportation demand forecasting and cost-effective analysis of the railway infrastructure systems improvement.
We designed and implemented streaming server based on MEPG DASH, which is able to provide high quality video with low-latency live streaming service like 360 VR video on the existing cable network via low-spec media service devices such as IPTV and OTT(Over the Top) SettopBox. We also designed and applied management process which is cable of supporting services by cashing streaming video file(MPD, Segment Files) to reduce the server response delay time. Further more, we confimred that it is also able to provide high quality of tiled video streaming with over 50,000kbps bitrate and 8K@60P through the experiment.
Since the September 11, 2001, transnational crimes and terrorism have increased, the importance of border security has been emphasized and integrated CIQ capability has been required. The U.S., Canada, and Australia are consolidating CIQ to strengthen border security, focusing on strengthening travelers and goods immigration control and airports, ports and land border security. In 2003, the U.S. established the Customs and Border Protection(CBP) under the Department of Homeland Security. Canada also established the Canada Border Services Agency(CBSA) under the Public Safety Canada in 2003. The Australian Customs and Border Protection Service was integrated with the Department of Immigration and Border Protection(DIBP) and the Australian Border Force was established in 2015. However, Korea operates a distributed border management system for each CIQ task which is unable to respond to complex border threats such as illegal immigration, entry of terrorists, smuggling of drugs, and gun trade in the airports, ports and land borders. In order to solve this problem, it is possible to consider integrating sequentially the customs and quarantine services which have high similarities, and to integrate the entire CIQ tasks with the Korea Customs Service delegated to the immigration control duties in the mid to long term. There is also a plan to benchmark the CIQ single accountability agencies in the U.S., Canada, and Australia in accordance with the Korean situation and to establish a new integrated border security organization.
