  • Purpose: The conjoint analyst in marketing are interested in detecting whether there exist synergy or antagonistic effects between two attributes. In the cases where attributes have two or three levels, we research on the design of survey questionnaire to estimate all the main effect and as many two factor interaction effects as possible. Methods: We consider the balanced incomplete block (BIB) mixed level factorial design $2^f{\times}3^g$ or fractional factorial design. To reduce the number of questions in a questionnaire, we propose the balanced incomplete block mixed level design with minimum aberration which is generated by implementing proc factex in SAS. Also, we propose using two or three level BIB factorial design instead of mixed level designs by transforming three level attributes into two attributes of two levels and two level attribute into three level attribute by using dummy level technique. Results: We propose three methods for designing survey questionnaire where the block and design generators are found with practical number of questions in a questionnaire. By analyzing all the respondents survey data generated by the simulation study, we find the proper model and do the concepts optimization. Conclusion: The proposed methods of designing survey questionnaires seem to perform well in the sense that the proper model, and then the optimal concept is found in a case study where all the respondents survey data are generated by the simulation study.

  • An ultrasonic method is developed for the measurement of the two-phase mixture level in the reactor vessel or steam generator. The ultrasonic method is selected among the several non¬nuelear two-phase mixture level measurement methods through two steps of selection procedure. A commercial ultrasonic level measurement method is modified for application into the high temperature, pressure, and other conditions. The calculation method of the ultrasonic velocity is modified to consider the medium as the homogeneous mixture of air and steam. and to be applied into the high temperature and pressure conditions. The cross-correlation technique is adopted as a detection method to reduce the effects of the attenuation and the dif.JUsed reflection caused by suface fluctuation. The waveguides are developed to reduce the loss of echo and to remove the effects of obstructs. The present experimental study shows that the developed ultrasonic method measures the two-phase mixture level more accurately than the conventional methods do.

  • For further development of passive control systems to dissipate larger seismic energy and prevent the structures from earthquake losses, this paper proposes an innovative two-level control system to improve behavior of chevron braced steel frames. Combining two Knee Braces, KB, and a Vertical Link Beam, VLB, in a chevron braced frame, this system can reliably sustain main shock and aftershocks in steel structures. The performance of this two-level system is examined through a finite element analysis and quasi-static cyclic loading test. The cyclic performances of VLB and KBs alone in chevron braced frames are compared with that of the presented two-level control system. The results show appropriate performance of the proposed system in terms of ductility and energy dissipation in two different excitation levels. The maximum load capacity of the presented system is about 30% and 17% higher than those of the chevron braced frames with KB and VLB alone, respectively. In addition, the maximum energy dissipation of the proposed system is about 78% and 150% higher than those of chevron braced frames with VLB and KB respectively under two separate levels of lateral forces caused by different probable seismic excitations. Finally, high performance under different earthquake levels with competitive cost and quick installation work for the control system can be found as main advantages of the presented system.

  • This paper describes a SVPWM overmodulation scheme of NPC type three-level inverter for traction drives which extends the modulation index from MI=0.907 to unity. SVPWM strategy is organized by two operation modes of under-modulation and over-modulation. The switching states under the under-modulation modes are determined by dividing them with two linear regions and one hybrid region the same as the conventional three-level inverter. On the other hand, under the over-modulation mode, they are generated by doing it with two over-modulation regions the same as the conventional over-modulation strategy of a two level inverter. Following the description of over-modulation scheme of a three-level inverter, the system description of a vector controlled induction motor for traction drives has been discussed. Finally, the validity of the proposed modulation algorithm has been verified through simulation and experimental results.

  • A Finite Volume Method for the two-dimensional incompressible, two-fluids Navies-Stokes equation and level-set scheme are used to analyse the interface of two fluids, free-surface flow. The numerical characteristics and the applicability of level-set scheme are brief1y investigated and appraised by solving oscillating small surface wave in a water tank and dam break problems. In the numerical results, a method for improving the convergence of the solution is presented.

  • A single-ended primary-inductor converter (SEPIC) features low input current ripple and output voltage up/down capability. However, the switching devices in a two-level SEPIC suffer from high voltage stresses and switching losses. To cope with this drawback, this study proposes a three-level SEPIC that uses a low voltage-rated switch and thus achieves better switching performance compared with the two-level SEPIC. The three-level SEPIC can reduce switch voltage stresses and switching losses. The converter operation and control method are described in this work. The experimental results for a 500 W prototype converter are also discussed. Experimental results show that unlike the two-level SEPIC, the three-level SEPIC achieves improved power efficiency with balanced capacitor voltages.

  • This paper is the generalization of the modified two-level skip-lot sampling plan(MTSkSP1) to n-level. The general formulas of the operating characteristic(OC) function, average sample number(ASN) and average outgoing quality(AOQ) for the plan are derived using Markov chain properties. The operating characteristic curves, average sample numbers and average outgoing qualities of a reference plan, modified two-level, three-level and five-level skip-lot sampling plans are compared.

  • This study presents a two level-parallel type inventory systems with one upper level facility in the first echelon and n-lower level facilities in the second echelon. The stocks at the lowest facilities can become unbalanced with the random variations in the demands. This paper deals with the imbalance by considering redistribution and backorder. The system with redistribution and the system with backorder and redistribution are analized. The comparison of two cases shows that the system with redistribution and backorder gives smaller stocks than the system with redistribution.

  • This paper proposed a multi-resolution algorithm. Its search point and complexity were compared with those of block match algorithm. Also the speed up comparison was made with the block match algorithm. The proposed multi-resolution NTSS-3 Level algorithm was compared again with its targets, TSS-3 Level algorithm and NTSS algorithm. The comparison results showed that the NTSS-3 Level algorithm was superior in search point and speed up. Accordingly, the proposed NTSS-3 Level algorithm was two to three times better in search point and two to four times better in complexity calculation than those of the compared object, the block match algorithm. In speed up, the proposed NTSS-3 Level algorithm was two times better. Accordingly, the proposed multi-resolution NTSS-3 Level algorithm showed PSNR ration portion excellency in search point and speed up.

  • In this paper, we proposed a two-level feature vector fusion technique to improve the performance of target classification. The proposed method combines feature vectors of the early-time region and late-time region in the first-level fusion. In the second-level fusion, we combine the monostatic and bistatic features obtained in the first level. The radar cross section (RCS) of the 3D full-scale model is obtained using the electromagnetic analysis tool FEKO, and then, the feature vector of the target is extracted from it. The feature vector based on the waveform structure is used as the feature vector of the early-time region, while the resonance frequency extracted using the evolutionary programming-based CLEAN algorithm is used as the feature vector of the late-time region. The study results show that the two-level fusion method is better than the one-level fusion method.
