  • This study suggests an approach for determining fleet size for container road transportation with dynamic demand in Korea. With the forecasted monthly container transportation data a year, a heuristic algorithm is developed to determine the number of company-owned trucks, mandated trucks, and rented trucks in order to minimize the expected annual operating cost, which is based on the solution technologies used in the aggregate production planning and the pickup-and-delivery problem. Finally the algorithm is tested for the problem how the trucking company determines the fleet size for transporting containers.

  • The SI thermochemical cycle process accomplishes water splitting through distinctive three chemical reactions. We focused on thermodynamic models applicable to the process. Recently, remarkable models based on the assumed ionic species have been developed to describe highly nonideal behavior on the liquid phase reactions. ElecNRTL models with ionic reactions were proposed in order to provide reliable process simulation results for phase equilibrium calculations in Section II and III. In this study, the current thermodynamic models of SI thermochemical cycle process were briefly described and the calculation results of the applied ElecNRTL models for phase equilibrium calculations were illustrated for binary systems.

  • The successful management of logistics in an organization requires the careful coordination and manipulation of both movement and storage. In this study, we can show what is the most efficient and the cheapest method to transport the petroleum products under a few constraints with the model of linear programming. And also, the model can give some important informations so as what is the best coverages of each terminals by types, how many products should be exchanged among each companies and which terminals or complexes are economically prior to the others. Even we can understand that the duality is one of the useful measures to evaluate the economical efficiencies of transportation and storage related elements such as complex and terminal location, transport mode, storage tankage capacity and in/outflow facilities of terminals etc.

  • Recently, many manufacturing companies are paying more attention to energy efficiency due to increased energy costs. Energy-efficient scheduling of production systems is a good method for energy efficiency improvement and cost reduction. In this research, we assumed the tire production problem and aim to construct a production scheduling considering specific shape module types, ordered amount for each tire, number of production modules, and the production time for each type. To facilitate effective production scheduling, we considered the types and number of shape modules currently available, and tire types that can be selected to be produced in the next stage were used as additional inputs, In addition to that, additional production was permitted to reduce the halt of production processing. Thus, an average production module utilization rate of about 62 percent was obtained.

  • The precast concrete column-beam structure, Green Frame, allows the main structural members such as precast concrete column and beam to be produced on the site, resulting in a reduction of transportation cost and the margin of plant. However, existing plywood from for in-situ production of precast concrete members has problems like putting in inordinate human resource, falling-off in quality and workability. To solve those problems, form system for in-situ production of precast concrete members shall be developed. In this regard, this study aims to analyze the structural concept of from system for in-situ production. The result of this study will use for development of form system for in-situ production.

  • The composite PC rahmen structure, called Green Frame, allows the main structural members such as PC column and beam to be produced on the site, resulting in a reduction of PC member transportation cost and the margin of PC plant (operation cost and profit), making it more economic than the bearing wall structure. To apply the Green Frame to practice, not only installation but also insitu-production process should be considered. Therefore, this study analyse the influence factors on insitu-production and installation schedule of composite precast concrete members. The results shall be used as basic criteria on the planning of insitu-production and installation of Green Frame.

  • Transportation digital map has built based on NGIS (national geography institute's 1 :5000 digital database) which derived from the aerial photo materials. Transportation digital map is a part of National Transportation Database Building Project carried out by the Korea Transport Institute and Ministry of Construction and Transportation. Transportation digital map for the purpose of transportation plan and investment has been updated and corrected the NGIS database especially for road network. Transportation digital map database is essential basic data fully applied for transportation policy and planning. The database must be reliable and objective to be applied for national transportation policy decision and transportation analysis. In addition, it needs accuracy and currentness to reflect the road network for the survey year. To satisfy the purpose of the database, following steps are necessary first, data Production and building has to be done by guideline of survey and database building. Secondly, geometric and logical errors which can occur during the survey and database building should be carefully detected. Thirdly, sectional guideline for database examination and procedure needs to be set up systematically and coherently This study is about examination guidelines for section and procedure on nodes and links which are essential object in transportation digital map database. According to the type of error, consistent and systematic error examination can lead to quality guarantee for objective and reliable database.

  • Objective: This study was performed to determine the effects of stress after road transportation and oral administration of chromium and meloxicam on growth performance, plasma cortisol, serum metabolites, and behavior in dairy calves. Methods: A total of 50 Holstein heifers (average body weight [BW]: 172±4.19 kg; average age: 5.53±0.12 months) were randomly assigned to five groups including NL (not transported + D-lactose; 1 mg/kg BW), TL (transported + D-lactose; 1 mg/kg BW), TC (transported + chromium; 0.5 mg/kg dry matter [DM] feed), TM (transported + meloxicam; 1 mg/kg BW), and TMC (transported + combination of meloxicam and chromium; 1 mg/kg BW and 0.5 mg/kg DM, respectively). Doses of D-lactose monohydrate, meloxicam, and chromium were prepared for oral administration by suspension in 15 mL of water in a 20-mL dosing syringe. Blood was collected before transportation, immediately after 120 km of transportation (IAT), and at 6, 24, and 48 h after transportation. Results: Neither transportation nor administration of meloxicam and/or chromium affected (p = 0.99) average daily gain and feed intake. Plasma cortisol concentrations in the NL group (average 0.13 and 0.18 nmol/L, respectively) were lower (p<0.001) compared to the TL group (average 0.39 and 0.61 nmol/L, respectively) at IAT and 48 h after transportation. At 48 h after transportation, cortisol concentrations were lower (p<0.05) in the TC group (average 0.22 nmol/L) than in the TL group (average 0.61 nmol/L), and TC calves had similar cortisol concentrations to NL calves. Lying duration (min/d) was shorter (p<0.05) in the TL group than in the NL group at 2 d after transportation. Lying duration was longer (p<0.05) for the TC and TMC groups than for the TL group at 2 d after transportation. Conclusion: Transportation increased cortisol concentrations and affected lying behavior, while chromium administration reduced cortisol concentrations and changed lying behavior. Thus, chromium administration before transportation may be a viable strategy to alleviate stress elicited by road transportation.

  • Based on single-vendor single-buyer integrated production-inventory problem, a model considering freight costs discounts is suggested when the cargo capacity is constrained. With the cost function formulated, several properties of the model are derived and analyzed. An efficient algorithm to find solutions such as shipment lot size, number of shipments and number of full truckloads using properties derived is suggested. Numerical results are provided to illustrate the proposed solution procedures and to provide additional insights.

  • This paper formulates a problem of analysis and design of serial production lines, closed with respect to the number of carriers available in the system for parts transportation between operations. For two machines - two buffers systems, the paper gives an asymptotic solution and shows that optimization of the system with respect to the number of carriers available and the capacity of the feedback buffer may lead to substantial improvements of system's performance.
