  • OSA(Obstructive Sleep Apnea) is a condition with repeated obstruction of the upper airway while sleeping. This obstruction of the upper airway may result if sleep-induced physiologic change in muscle activity is superimposed on various structural defects of the upper airway. Macroglossia, micrognathia, retrognathia, and decreased airway lumen have all been implicated in OSA. There are a variety of surgical and nonsurgical treatment modalities currently available for OSA. Recently the uvulopalatopharyngoplasty has achieved widespread use, but success rates vary and long-term effects are still unknown. Current nonsurgical treatment methods can be cumbersome and uncomfortable with variable responses. For this case. we diagnosed as OSA by using polysomnographic analysis and cephalometric analysis, and delivered intraoral removable appliance which is more conservative, reversible and easy to use for patient. And we got results that Apnea Index(AI) decreased from 14.4 to 3.1, Total Respiratory Disturbance Index(Total RDI) decreased from 18.1 to 7.0 and removal of chronic headache in daytime.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the problems and benefits associated with the implementation of HACCP on livestock product of plants in Korea. The survey was carried out by randomly selecting 115 HACCP accredited meat processing plants, all across the country. A total of 105 complete responses were selected for analysis. The results were as follows: approximately 60% of the respondents employed less than twenty workers. The average period of operating HACCP system was 3.4 years. The respondents replied that the major incentive to implement the HACCP system was to improve hygiene management ability. More than half of the respondents (59.05%) claimed that the implementation of the HACCP system cost less than 400 million won, and the highest investment in terms of cost was the freezer/refrigerator. In the preparation period taken to implement the HACCP system, the 6-12 mon category had the highest percentage (55.24%). Most respondents replied that there was an increase in the customer satisfaction, plant image and turnover, after HACCP implementation (p<0.05). A total of 98.09% of respondents had the opinion that their plant workers had improved in their understanding of food hygiene by HACCP implementation (p<0.05). Approximately 79% of respondents indicated that customer complaints decreased, as a result of HACCP implementation.

  • The role of the social environment for any activity is crucial as it prompts new ideas and plays a role of lever for entrepreneurial longevity and creating value through social wellbeing. The lack of entrepreneurship related knowledge in Pakistan has taken the challenge of lesser entrepreneurial activity as compared to other counterpart Asian countries and ranked 138 out of 189 countries on the level of ease of doing business. The study aims to investigate the social environment as a mediator among idea generation, business creation, financing decision and entrepreneurial activity by utilizing quantitative approach. In order to achieve the objective, a total of thirty eight items scale was self-administered for data collection. A non-probability, snowball sampling technique was employed and assembled a total of 300 complete responses through online and paper based surveys as per information provided by the chamber of commerce of three regions namely; Sukkur, Hyderabad and Karachi Sindh, Pakistan. The data analysis result strongly supported the main research question as the entrepreneurial activity increased up to 43.8% after applying social environment as a mediator. This research can help to enhance entrepreneurial activities in Pakistan by creating awareness to support entrepreneurs at social level for entrepreneurship.

  • Quasi-equilibrium profiles are analyzed through galvanostatic intermittent titration technique (GITT) and potentiostatic intermittent titration technique (PITT) to study the charge/discharge mechanism in multicomponent olivine structure ($LiMn_{1/3}Fe_{1/3}Co_{1/3}PO_4$). From GITT data, the degree of polarization is evaluated for the three regions corresponding to the redox couples of $Mn^{2+}/Mn^{3+}$, $Fe^{2+}/Fe^{3+}$ and $Co^{2+}/Co^{3+}$. From PITT data, the current vs. time responses are examined in each titration step to find out the mode of lithium de-intercalation/intercalation process. Furthermore, lithium diffusivities at specific compositions (x in $Li_xMn_{1/3}Fe_{1/3}Co_{1/3}PO_4$) are also calculated. Finally, total capacity ($Q^{total}$) and diffusional capacity ($Q^{diff}$) are obtained for some selected voltage steps. The entire study consistently confirms that the charge/discharge mechanism of multicomponent olivine cathode is associated with a one-phase reaction rather than a biphasic reaction.

  • Purpose : The objective of this study was the development and validation of a scale to measure the self-care of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) in Korea. Method: Self-care scale was developed based on the self-care activities patients had to carry out in order to manage their COPD. The original scale contained 34 items rated along a five-point Likert scale and was reviewed by 18 professional nurses and 10 Korean patients with COPD for content validity. Subsequently, patients with COPD were asked to complete this 23-item scale and further tests were done with the 125 useable responses. Result: Factor analysis identified eight factors-'maintaining a clean air way', 'taking medication', 'support from family', 'preventing infection', 'managing symptoms', 'breathing exercising', and 'taking in nutrition'. The internal consistency of the total scale was Cronbach's α=0.7226. These eight factors explained 60.8% of total variance. There was correlation among Korean Self-Care Scale score, administration level, and knowledge level but there was no correlation to patients' satisfaction with medical services. Conclusion: The 23 item questionnaire positively identified 8 areas defined important for COPD patients. Further studies are required to see how these can be integrated into patient education.

  • A bacterial isolate (strain JS-2) characterized as Bacillus sp. was challenged with high concentrations of toxic selenite ions. The microbe was found to transform the toxic, soluble, colorless selenite (${SeO_3}^{2-}$) oxyions to nontoxic, insoluble, red elemental selenium ($Se^0$). This process of biotransformation was accompanied by cytoplasmic and surface accumulation of electron dense selenium ($Se^0$) granules, as revealed in electron micrographs. The cells grown in the presence of selenite oxyions secreted large quantities of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS). There were quantitative and qualitative differences in the cell wall fatty acids of the culture grown in the presence of selenite ions. The relative percentage of total saturated fatty acid and cyclic fatty acid increased significantly, whereas the amount of total unsaturated fatty acids decreased when the cells were exposed to selenite stress. All these physiological adaptive responses evidently indicate a potentially important role of cell wall fatty acids and extracellular polymeric substances in determining bacterial adaptation towards selenite-induced toxicity, which thereby explains the remarkable competitiveness and ability of this microbe to survive the environmental stress.

  • Harmonic current mitigation is vital in power distribution networks owing to the inflow of nonlinear loads, distributed generation, and renewable energy sources. The active power filter (APF) is the current electrical equipment that can dynamically compensate for harmonic distortion and eliminate asymmetrical loads. The compensation performance of an APF largely depends on the control strategy applied to the voltage source inverter (VSI). Model predictive control (MPC) has been demonstrated to be one of the effective control approaches to providing fast dynamic responses. This approach covers different types of power converters due to its several advantages, such as flexible control scheme and simple inclusion of nonlinearities and constraints within the controller design. In this study, a finite control set-MPC technique is proposed for the control of VSIs. Unlike conventional control methods, the proposed technique uses a discrete time model of the shunt APF to predict the future behavior of harmonic currents and determine the cost function so as to optimize current errors through the selection of appropriate switching states. The viability of this strategy in terms of harmonic mitigation is verified in MATLAB/Simulink. Experimental results show that MPC performs well in terms of reduced total harmonic distortion and is effective in APFs.

  • The main objective of the study is to find out the level of information-seeking behaviour of auto mechanics working at Siwdu and its impact on the work they do. Two methods of data collection instruments were used; these included a questionnaire and interview schedule. The researchers personally administered fifty-three questionnaires of which forty-eight completed ones were received. Twelve (12) people were interviewed at their respective workshops. The respondents were registered members of Siwdu Auto Mechanic Association and the total number of sixty respondents used represented 20% of total number of members. Quantitative data obtained mainly from the questionnaire were analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software version 20. Responses for the interview were analysed thematically. Some of the major findings are as follows: The majority of the respondents did not know how to get information from the library; some of the respondents preferred consulting their "Masters" for help; majority of the respondents had Android phones but did not know how to access relevant information; respondents were aware of the benefits of authentic information; and respondents recommended that Management of libraries should organise seminars and workshops for auto mechanics to enable them know how and where to access information. Information is needed by everybody to enhance efficiency therefore creating the awareness of the sources of information is a way of increasing productivity. Knowing the level of information-seeking behaviour of people in every manner of job is essential in the nation's human resource development.
