  • The elevator gear box with the helical gears needs to be developed instead of the one with the worm gears to improve the efficiency. In order to develop the gear box, the analytical tool to predict the helical gear noise is necessary to meet customer's noise requirement. Gear noise is related to the loaded transmission error. Therefore, the simulation program for the loaded transmission error analysis of the helical gears is developed in this study. Using the developed program, the effects of tooth modification such as tip relief and the extent of tip relief are investigated. Finally, the procedures to determine the tip relief and the extent of tip relief are proposed.

  • The vibration and nosic of gears is causeed by manufacting error, alignment error in assembly, and thr meshing stiffness of gears which changes periodically as the meshing of teeth process. On a pair of power transmission helical gears with profile error, the relation between the characteristics of gear vibration and the profile error type have been investigated by simulating the vibrational acceleration level and calculating the natural frequency. The results show that the profile error decrease the natural frequency by reducing the tool stiffness and that the concave error type increase the vibrationsl level. And this paper describes the effect of the tip relief on the vibrational acceleration level which a pair of helical gears with concave error generates.

  • $\cdot$ Arthroscopic management is the effective method with acceptable results for coronoid impingement of stiff elbow contributing to the functional improvement and pain relief. $\cdot$ The functional improvement and pain relief seem to be affected by the severity of a degenerative change of the elbow joint. $\cdot$ Excision of coronoid process is required in a marked limitation of further flexion in addition to deeping of the coronoid fossa and anterior capsular release. $\cdot$ Excision of olecranon tip or posterior capsular release are effective method in severe flexion contracture.

  • In this study, the sliding wear in spur gears, using Archard's wear model, is analyzed. Formulas of tooth sliding wear depth along the line of action are derived. The tooth profile is modified Id make a smooth transmission of the normal loads and the cylinder profile for reducing the pressure spike is suggested. The sliding wear rate is calculated with these profiling results. We expect these modification methods to contribute to the reduction of sliding wear not only in the root, but the tip of tooth and tooth edge.

  • Neurolytic splanchnic nerve block is an effective method for the relief of pain of upper abdominal cancer. Nine cases of intractable upper abdominal cancer pain were treated by splanchnic nerve block with absolute alcohol (25 ml) at the pain clinic of Kangdong Sacred Heart Hospital, Hallym University, during a 19 month period from March, 1988 to September, 1989. The group included six patients with stomach cancer, two patients with pancreatic cancer, and one patient with hepatobiliary cancer. We used fluoroscopy in all cases of alcohol spianchnic nerve block to determine both, the position of the needle tip, and the spread of the neurolytic solution. Of the 9 patients, 6 patients had excellent pain relief, and 3 patients who had combined upper abdominal and lower back pain had relieved upper abdominal pain only, but remaining lower back pain. Of the 9 patients', 5 patients had excellent pain relief through the patients remaining life (1-2 months) in which follow up was possible.

  • Postherpetic neuralgia is one of the most troublesome disease in pain clinic. Nine patients who suffered from postherpetic neuralgia for 1.5 to 8 month, has been treated with the epidural block for prognostic or therapeutic purpose. Epidural catheter was inserted as close to the involved neural roots as possible, and tip of epidural catheter was confirmed under fluroscopic guide. Epidural neurolysis was performed out intermittent injection of 1~3 ml of 6% phenol in saline and repeated 2~6 times over one or 7 days interval. Two patients reported satisfactory pain relief and 3 patients reported some pain relief. But 4 patients unchanged after phenol block. The overall duration of pain relief was not studied. Validity and safety of epidural phenol block was not confined. Further study will be necessary before application of epidural phenol block to postherpetic neuralgia.

  • Multiloop Edgewise Archwire(MEAW) is effective in relief the Curve of Spee in mandibular arch but up Sl down orthodontic elastics must be used with it. The purpose of this study was to analyse the effect of orthodontic elastics, like as up & down elastics, Class II elastics, and Class III elastics, and the effect of L loop in Multioop Edgewise Archwire. 1. Intrusive force of MEAW in anterior teeth was reduced and uprighting force in premolars was increased by up & down elastics. 2. Uprighting force was significintly increased with Class III elastics in multiple L loop arch wire. 3. The force of Class II elastics made molars tip mesially and Curve of Spee deep.

  • The aim of the present paper is to develop a computer program predicting ultimate fracture strength of initially cracked structure under monotonically increasing external loads. For this purpose, two kinds of 3-D isoparametric solid elements, one 6-node wedge element and another 8-node brick element are formulated along the small deformation theory. Plasticity in the element is checked using von Mises' yield criterion. Elasto-plastic stiffness matrix of the element is calculated taking account of strain hardening effect. If the principal strain at crack tip which is one nodal point exceeds the critical strain dependin on the material property, crack tip is supposed to be opened and the crack tip node which was previously constrained in the direction perpendicular to the crack line is released. After that, the crack lay be propagated to the adjacent node. Once a crack tip node is fractured, the energy of the newly fractured node should be released which is to be absorbed by the remaining part. The accumulated reaction force which was carried by the newly fractured node so far is then applied in the opposite direction. During the action of crack tip relief force, since unloading may be occured in the plastic element, unloading check should be made. If a plastic element unloads, elastic stress-strain equation is used in the calculation of the stiffness matrix of the element, while for a loading element, elasto-plastic stress-strain equation is continuously used. Verification of the computer program is made comparing with the experimental results for center cracked panel subjected to uniform tensile load. Also some factors affecting ultimate fracture strength of initially cracked plate are investigated. It is concluded that the computer program developed here gives an accurate solution and becomes useful tool for predicting ultimate fracture load of initially cracked structural system under monotonically increasing external loads.
