Performance evaluation of the input and output buffered knockout switch

  • Various ATM switches have been proposed since Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) was recognized as appropriate for implementing broadband integrated services digital network (BISDN). An ATM switching network may be evaluated on two sides : traffic performances (maximum throughput, delay, and packet loss probability, etc.) and structural features (complexity, i.e. the number of switch elements necessary to construct the same size switching network, maintenance, modularity, and fault tolerance, etc.). ATM switching networks proposed to date tend to show the contrary characteristics between structural features and traffic performance. The Knockout Switch, which is well known as one of ATM switches, shows a good traffic performance but it needs so many switch elements and buffers. In this paper, we propose an input and output buffered Knockout Switch for the purpose of reducing the number of switch elements and buffers of the existing Knockout Switch. We analyze the traffic performance and the structural features of the proposed switching architecture through a discrete time Markov chain and compare with those of the existing Knockout Switch. It was found that the proposed architecture could reduce more than 40 percent of switch elements and more than 30 percent of buffers under a given requirement of cell loss probability of the switch.

Automatic Switching System for The Impedance Analysis of Multichannel icroelectrode Arrays: Limits and Improvement Scheme (다채널 미세전극칩 임피던스 분석을 위한 자동 스위칭 시스템: 한계점 및 개선 방안)

  • Electrode impedances are measured to quantitatively characterize the electrode-electrolyte or cell-electrode interfaces. In the case of high-density microelectrode arrays(MEAs) that have been developed for brainmachine interface applications, the characterization process becomes a repeating and time-consuming task; a system that can perform the measurement and analysis in an automated fashion with accuracy and speed is required. However, due to the large number of channels, parasitic capacitance and off-capacitance components of the switching system become the major factors that decreased the accuracy for the measurement of high impedance microelectrodes. Here we investigated the implementation of automatic impedance measurement system with analyzing the causes of possible measurement-related problems in multichannel switching configuration. Based on our multi-channel measurement circuit model, we suggest solutions to the problems and introduce a novel impedance measurement scheme using electro-mechanical relays. The implemented measurement system could measure |Z| < 700 $k{\Omega}$ of impedance in - 10% errors, which can be widely applicable to high density neural recording MEAs.

  • Relaxed Static Stability(RSS) concept has been applied to improve aerodynamic performance of modern version supersonic jet fighter aircraft. Therefore, the flight control systems are necessary to stabilizes the unstable aircraft and provides adequate handling qualities. The initial production flight control system are verified by flight test and it's always an elements of danger because of flight-critical nature of control law function and design error due to model base design method. These critical issues impact to flight safety, and it could be lead to a loss of aircraft and pilot's life. Therefore, development of an easily modifiable RFCS(Research Flight Control System) capable of reverting to a PFCS(Primary Flight Control System) of reliable control law must be developed to guarantee the flight safety. This paper addresses the concept of SSWM(Software Switching Mechanism) using the fader logic such as TFS(Transient Free Switch) based on T-50 flight control law. The result of the analysis based on non-real time simulation in-house software using SSWM reveals that the flight control system are switching between two computers without any problem.

An Antenna Selection and Switching System Robust to Spatially Correlated Channel (공간적 상관도가 존재하는 채널에 강인한 다중안테나 선택 및 스위칭 시스템)

  • This paper proposes an antenna selection and switching system between spatial multiplexing and diversity techniques. The proposed system overcomes spatial correlation by using antenna selection method and improve bit error performance with switching encoding nudes between a spatial multipexing encoder and a diversity encoder. Therefore, in a 4 transmit and 2 receive antenna system first, the proposed system selects 2 transmit antennas, and next, switches encoding modes between Space-Time Transmit Diversity and BLAST according to instantaneous channel information. Computer simulations showed that the proposed system improves about 2 or 3 ㏈ SNR in low correlated channel and about 3 ㏈ SNR in highly correlated channel rather than a 2 by 2 antenna switching system.

  • The resistive switching characteristics of resistive random access memory (ReRAM) based on amorphous $Ge_{0.5}Se_{0.5}$ thin films have been demonstrated by using Ti/Ag nanocrystals/$Ge_{0.5}Se_{0.5}$/Pt structure. Ag nanocrystals (Ag NCs) were spread on the amorphous $Ge_{0.5}Se_{0.5}$ thin film and they played the role of metal ions source. As a result, comparing the conventional Ag/$Ge_{0.5}Se_{0.5}$/Pt structure, this Ti/Ag NCs/$Ge_{0.5}Se_{0.5}$/Pt ReRAM device exhibits the highly uniform bipolar resistive switching (BRS) characteristics, such as the operating voltages, and the resistance values. At the same time, a stable DC endurance(> 100 cycles), and the excellent data retention (> $10^4$ sec) properties were found from the Ti/Ag NCs/$Ge_{0.5}Se_{0.5}$/Pt structured ReRAM device.

Switching Picture Added Scalable Video Coding and its Application for Video Streaming Adaptive to Dynamic Network Bandwidth

  • Transmission of video over Internet or wireless network requires coded stream capable of adapting to dynamic network conditions instantly. To meet this requirement, various scalable video coding schemes have been developed, among which the Scalable Video Coding (SVC) extension of the H.264/AVC is the most recent one. In comparison with the scalable profiles of previous video coding standards, the SVC achieves significant improvement on coding efficiency performance. For adapting to dynamic network bandwidth, the SVC employs inter-layer switching between different temporal, spatial or/and fidelity layers, which is currently supported with instantaneous decoding refresh (IDR) access unit. However, for real-time adaptability, the SVC has to frequently employ the IDR picture, which dramatically decreases the coding efficiency. Therefore, an extension of SP picture from the AVC to the SVC for an efficient inter-layer switching is investigated and presented in this paper. Simulations regarding the adaptability to dynamic network bandwidth are implemented. Results of experiment show that the SP picture added SVC provides an average 1.2 dB PSNR enhancement over the current SVC while providing similar adaptive functionality.

  • Most of all, DTC drive is very simple in its implementation because it needs only two hysteresis comparator and switching vector table for both flux and torque control. The switching strategy of a conventional direct torque control scheme which is based on hysteresis comparator results in a variable switching frequency which depends on the speed, flux, stator voltage and the hysteresis of the comparator. The amplitude of hysteresis band greatly influences on the drive performance such as flux and torque ripple and inverter switching frequency. In this paper the influence of the amplitudes of flux and torque hysteresis bands and sampling time of control program on the torque and flux ripples are investigated. Simulation results confirm the superiority of the DTC under the proposed method over the conventional DTC.

A Novel Bio-inspired Trusted Routing Protocol for Mobile Wireless Sensor Networks

  • Routing in mobile wireless sensor networks (MWSNs) is an extremely challenging issue due to the features of MWSNs. In this paper, we present a novel bio-inspired trusted routing protocol (B-iTRP) based on artificial immune system (AIS), ant colony optimization (ACO) and Physarum optimization (PO). For trust mechanism, B-iTRP monitors neighbors' behavior in real time and then assesses neighbors' trusts based on AIS. For routing strategy, each node proactively finds routes to the Sink based on ACO. When a backward ant is on the way to return source, it senses the energy residual and trust value of each node on the discovered route, and calculates the link trust and link energy of the route. Moreover, B-iTRP also assesses the availability of route based on PO to maintain the route table. Simulation results show how B-iTRP can achieve the effective performance compared to existing state-of-the-art algorithms.

  • A novel switching differentiator-based backstepping controller for uncertain pure-feedback nonlinear systems is proposed. Using asymptotically convergent switching differentiator, time-derivatives of the virtual controls are directly estimated in every backstepping design steps. As a result, the control law has an extremely simple form and asymptotical stability of the tracking error is guaranteed regardless of parametric or unstructured uncertainties and unmatched disturbances in the considered system. It is required no universal approximators such as neural networks or fuzzy logic systems that are adaptively tuned online to cope with system uncertainties. Simulation results show the simplicity and performance of the proposed controller.

Improving BER Performance of IEEE 802.15.4 with Alamouti Scheme in MIMO System (MIMO 시스템에서 ALAMOUTI 기법과 IEEE 802.15.4의 BER 성능 개선)

  • This paper proposes a technique for applying space-time block coding (STBC) - Alamouti scheme on Multiple Inputs Multiple Output (MIMO) system based on IEEE 802.15.4 standard. It is applied to IEEE 802.15.4 standard in $2{\times}1$ MISO and $2{\times}2$ MIMO systems. Simulation is performed using Matlab and the results are compared with conventional IEEE 802.15.4 approaches, Single Input Single Output (SISO) system and switching diversity $1{\times}2$ Single Input Multiple Output (SIMO) system. The simulations show that applied Alamouti scheme gave better Bit Error Rate (BER) performance compared to combined IEEE 802.15.4 with switching diversity and SISO system.
