Transient Characteristics of Separately Excited d-c Motor Driven by Thyristor d-c Chopper (Thyristor 직류 Chopper방식으로 구동되는 직류타여자식 전동기의 과도특성해석법)

  • The transient characteristics of separately excited d-c motor driven by thyristor d-c chopper is studied in this paper. The armature controlled system is applied. As a result of theoretrical analysis the following conculsions were drawn: (1) For the transient analysis, it is recognized that the state transition analysis is a more general method and powerful tool than the state equation method or signal flow graph method, although it includes iterative matrix calculations. And the system is dealt with a finite width sampled-data system in the state transition analysis. (2) The transient characteristics of the motor angular velocity and its torque to the sampling duration variation are compared with those due to the amplitude variation of d-c chopper voltage as follows. The attenuation rate of the transient characteristics is equal in both cases, but the initial value of the transient characteristics in former case is greater than in latter case. (3) The roots of characteristics equation of the system lie inside the unit circle of the Z-plane. Therefor the system is stable. Further it is found that as the sampling duration is decreased the relative stability is lessened.

  • Lateral MCT(MOS-controlled thyristor)소자의 전기 적 특성 Parameters의 변화에 따른 스위칭 특성을 조사하였다. 제안된 Lateral 구조의 MCT는 채널과 drift영역의 제작과정이 간편하여 ON저항이 작으면서, 대전류용인 전력소자의 제작이 가능할 것으로 사료되는데, SPICE와 MEDICI 시뮬레이션을 이용하여 drift 저항, transit time및 불순물 농도 분포에 따른 전기적 특성을 알아보았다. 불순물의 농도와 채널길이의 변수에 의한 소자의 저항을 변화시켜 U 특성과 주파수 특성을 조사하였는데, 저항이 커질수록 turn-off 시간과 ON 저항은 증가함을 나타냈다.

  • A gate-turn-off thyristor (GTO) that has a fuction of self-commutation is a device that can be turned on like a thyristor with a single pulse of gate current and turned-off by injecting a negative gate current pulse. GTOs have been in existence almost from the beginning of thyristor era, recently are these devices being developed with large power-handling capabilities and improved performance, and they are gaining popularity In conversion equipment. In this paper, the effects of internal parameters of GTO model using a circuit containing two transistors and three resistors the switching operation and the turn-off snubber characteristics is investigated using SPICE program.

  • This paper presents implementation of digital phase controller for thyristor by using FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) in HVDC system. Implementation of digital HVDC system is possible by using superior digital simulator such as RTDS (Real Time Digital Simulator). But thyristor phase controller is typically implemented by analog circuit, because it is difficult to implement the phase controller with low operating speed of RTDS. To guarantee high control performance, phase controller needs fast operating speed. This paper presents FPGA based digital phase controller to obtain high speed and high performance. The entire digital simulation of the HVDC system is also implemented by interfacing between FPGA based phase controller and RTDS. Proposed digital HVDC simulator is verified through RTDS simulation.

  • This paper presents a method for harmonic elimination and reactive power compensation using an intervening firing method and passive power filter with is suitable to compensate rapidly changing loads and reactive power. The proliferation of three-phase thyristor phase-controlled converter of DC motor drives into a power system has the potential to increase the harmonic levels in the power system. The design procedure of an intervening firing method and passive power filter capable of reducing the voltage and current harmonics produced by converter supplied from a source having internal large inductive impedance is offered. The analysis uses the or CAD PSpice to model three-phase thyristor phase-controlled converter of DC motor drives as well as the system.

  • The Test Signal Method is adopted to analyze the impact of thyristor controlled series capacitor (TCSC) on sub-synchronous oscillation. The results show that the simulation system takes the risk of Sub-synchronous Oscillation (SSO) while the TCSC is operating in the capacitive region. A supplementary excitation damping controller (SEDC) is used to mitigate SSO caused by the TCSC. A new optimization method which is aimed for optimal phase compensation is proposed. This method is realized by using the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. The simulation results show that the SEDC designed by this method has superior suitability, and that the secure operation scope of the TCSC is greatly increased.

  • This paper proposes a new power conditioning system for the SMES composed of a thyristor PWM converter with a resonant commutation circuit. The operation of the proposed system and the dynamic interaction between SMES and the power system is analyzed by a theoretical approach with equivalent circuits and verified by computer simulations with EMTP, considering a typical 154kV power system. The proposed system can provide a solution for the power factor regulation and harmonic level reduction in the ac terminal with low-cost system configuration.

  • In this paper, the new dual trench gate Emitter Switched Thyristor (DTG-EST) is proposed for improving snap-back effect which leads to a lot of serious problems of device applications. Also the parasitic thyristor that is inherent in the conventional EST is completely eliminated in this structure, allowing higher maximum controllable current densities for ESTs. The conventional EST exhibits snap-back with the anode voltage and current density 2.73V and 35A/$\textrm{cm}^2$, respectively. But the proposed DTG-EST exhibits snap-back with the anode voltage and current density 0.96V and 100A/$\textrm{cm}^2$, respectively.

  • The main drawback of parallel type active power filters (APFs) is the large capacity required for harmonic compensation. This paper evaluates the APF capacity requirement for harmonic/reactive power compensation for thyristor converter load. Theoretically achievable maximum power factor under partial load is evaluated. it is shown that the APF capacity can be considerably reduced by deliberately limiting the peak current, while maintaining the filtering performance with an acceptable total harmonic current level. the minimum capacity requirement of APF with current limiting is evaluated as a function of the firing angle of thyristor converter and short circuit ratio(SCR).

  • 반도체 소자의 파괴 원인으로는 주로 열, 전압, 전류, 진동 및 압력 등이 있다. 이 중에서 전압과 열을 스트레스 인자로 적용하여 가속열화 시험을 진행하였다. 전압 및 열에 의한 소자의 열화정도를 파악하기 위해 현재 상용화되어 있는 Phase Control Thyristor 중 $V_{DRM}\;=\;1500V,\;V_{BRM}\;=\;1500V, \;T_{HS}\;=\;-40{\sim}125^{\circ}C$ 정도의 사양을 가지는 소자를 사용하였다. 열화에 의한 여러 가지 변동특성 중에서 소자의 순방향 및 역방향 항복특성의 변화와 누설전류의 변화에 대해 실험을 통해 알아보았다.
