  • This descriptive study was done to investigate the critical thinking ability of senior nursing students in two types of nursing education programs : associate and baccalaureate programs. Data were conveniently collected from 159 associate degree nursing (ADN)students and 158 baccalaureate degree nursing(BSN)students. All schools were the Ministry of Education accredited and located in Seoul City and Kyung gi Province. These data were collected by self reporting questionaire given over two months from March to May, 1995. The subjects completed the Watson-Glaser Critical Thinking Appraisal (WGCTA) and a demographic questionnaire. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-test with the SAS program. The results of this study are as follows 1. The mean of critical thinking ability of the ADN students was 42.69. 2. The mean of critical thinking ability of the BSN students was 47.68. 3. There was significant difference in the WGCTA scores between the ADN and the BSN students (t=7.38 p<0.001) 4. This study suggests that critical thinking ability may increase with higher levels of nursing education. Possible explanations for these findings are discussed.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between critical thinking disposition and self-efficacy of college nursing student. Method: Data was collected from 186 nursing students in D and M cities. Result: The average scores were; critical thinking disposition 62.59 and self efficacy 88.91. The critical thinking disposition level was significantly different according to the general characteristics of the high school system. The self-efficacy level was significantly different according to the general characteristics of gender. The critical thinking disposition level and self-efficacy level showed a positive correlation(r=.335, p<.000). Conclusion: A strategy for development of the critical thinking disposition and self-efficacy is needed for nursing students.

  • To analyze the relationships between self-control, thinking quality and mathematical academic achievement, 197 senior school students were asked to complete questionnaires called "self-control ability on mathematics for middle school students" and "thinking quality for senior school students." The results were as follows: (1) There was strongly positive relevance between self-control ability, thinking quality and mathematical academic achievement. (2) A model was presented in which self-control ability had a direct impact on mathematical academic achievement, meanwhile had indirectly influenced mathematical academic achievement by thinking quality which acted as the intermediate variable. Thinking quality had a direct impact on mathematical academic achievement, too. (3) There's no significant difference between the two groups of boys and girls on the structural weights.

  • The purpose of this study is to design and develop of digital contents to improve computational thinking in the online education environment. First, we planned the design and development of contents with 19 experts of Software education. Digital content was designed from the point of view of improving the educational quality and the quality of contents for the improve of computing thinking. The content type is classified into the SW education area; computer science, programming, physical computing, convergent computing, computing thinking, and software education that improves the computing thinking. And we designed 45 learning programs for each SW education area. Designed learning contents were developed in 464 lessons to suit the online education environment. The content validity of the proposed content was verified by the expert group and the average CVI value was over .83. Through this, we could analyze that the developed contents will help learners to expand their computing thinking.

  • In this paper, a structural similarity between traditional oriental philosophy and systems thinking is discussed. The polarity of causal relationship and feedback loops can be interpreted in terms of yin and yang of oriental philosophy. A positive feedback loop which is linked to the yang is a force or mechanism that accelerates changes in systems. A negative feedback loop which is linked to the yin can be interpreted as a force oppressing any changes. In this sense, systems thinking can be related to the oriental philosophy. With this linking pin between them, systems thinking can be introduced and educated more friendly in oriental society. Furthermore, systems thinking can get a set of rich insights from the oriental philosophy. This paper suggests a linking leverage between systems thinking and oriental philosophy.

  • SIT(Systematic Inventive Thinking), a simplified version of TRIZ, has gained in popularity and used worldwide over recent years. In this paper, the relationship between 5 thinking tools of SIT and 40 inventive principles of TRIZ was examined. For the purpose, many practical TRIZ cases applied in a world-class consumer electronics company were analyzed. The analysis showed that SIT thinking tools were composed of 11 principles in 40 TRIZ inventive principles. Among SIT 5 thinking tools, division and attribute dependency were most frequently used. However, heavily used inventive principles such as preliminary action and beforehand cushioning were not included in SIT. If these principles are additionally reflected in SIT, the effectiveness of the thinking tools will be significantly increased.

  • This paper deals with the social system from the point of system thinking consisting the fundamental construct of system dynamics. The Bertalanffy's general system theory, having been criticized because of its ambiguity, and the complex science theory, emerging system theory, are integrated by using the system thinking which is characterized with three concepts, 'feedback thinking', 'dynamic thinking', 'operational thinking'. In the integration, system thinking suggests the dynamic pattern of the social system have not only an equilibrium status but also complex status. The science of complexity gives an implication to system dynamics the important of the uncertainty and complexity if we interpret the social system as an open system. To show more concrete description, I simulate the cooperation model based on the iterated prisoner dilemma. The simulation results show the diverse patterns of cooperation and betrayal. Especially the sensitivity of initial payoff will cause the chaotic strategic landscapes as the game gose on. These results mean that we should not give the hasty prescription to control social system artificially. Because social system retains the self-organizing force in itself.

  • In this paper, we deal with the algebraic thinking from the perspective of ‘process’ and ‘object’ aspects. Generally, mathematical concepts have come from the concrete process. We consider the origin of algebra as the arithmetic calculations. Also, the concept of school arithmetic is beginning from actions or procedures. However, in order to develop the alge- braic thinking and to apply this thinking, we have to see the history of algebraic thinking, and find this duality. Next we investigate various researches relating to the ‘process-object duality’. Theses studies suppose that the concept formation and thinking process should be stared from the process-object duality. Finally, we reinterprete many difficulties in algebra - equals sign, variables, algebraic expressions, and linear equations, the principle of permanence of form- from the perspective of the process-object duality.

  • The need for integrating the arts and literature into the engineering education has been emphasized to cultivate the creative talent in recent years. However, there have been few studies to investigate how the arts and literature can be linked with nurturing creative talent in the engineering fields. In this paper, it is examined that inventive thinking principles for creative ideation in the engineering fields can be applied to the arts and literature. For the purpose, creative works in the arts and literature, which can be explained by the five thinking tools of SIT(Systematic Inventive Thinking), are collected. The result shows that engineering and the arts share common thinking patterns.
