  • Magnesium oxide (MgO) reinforced polyamide-66 (PA66) composites were prepared through melt-compounding method in order to determine the possibility of using MgO particle as conductive filler in the polymer-based composite. The effects of MgO filler content on the thermal conductivity and mechanical properties for the PA66/MgO composites were investigated. The results showed that the addition of MgO filler to the PA66 matrix led to a large increase in thermal conductivity of the PA66/MgO composites. Tensile strengths of the PA66/MgO composites were slightly decreased as MgO filler loading increased. However, flexural strength and flexural modulus were improved with increasing filler loading. Notched Izod impact strengths were dramatically lowered by the addition of MgO filler.

  • The electro-thermal erasing (ETE) configuration utilizes Joule heating intentionally generated at word-line (WL). The elevated temperature by heat physically removes stored electrons permanently within a very short time. Though the ETE configuration is a promising next generation NAND flash memory candidate, a consideration of power efficiency and erasing speed with respect to device structure and its scaling has not yet been demonstrated. In this context, based on 3-dimensional (3-D) thermal simulations, this paper discusses the impact of device structure and scaling on ETE efficiency. The results are used to produce guidelines for ETEs that will have lower power consumption and faster speed.

  • This paper studies, the analysis of nonlinear thermal vibration of fluid-infiltrated FG nanobeam with voids. The effect of nonlinear thermal in a FG ceramic-metal nanobeam is determined using Murnaghan's model. Here the influence of fluids in the pores is investigated using the Skempton coefficient. Hamilton's principle is used to find the equation of motion of functionally graded nanobeam with the effect of refined higher-order state space strain gradient theory (SSSGT). Numerical solutions of the FG nanobeam are employed using Navier's solution. These solutions are validated against the impact of various parameters, including imperfection ratio, fluid viscosity, fluid velocity, amplitude, and piezoelectric strain, on the behavior of the fluid-infiltrated porous FG nanobeam.

  • BaO layers were formed on the Si(100) surface by thermal evaporation of barium metal with simultaneous oxidation. The atomic structure of BaO layers at the initial stage of the deposition was investigated by the scattering intensity variation of $He^+$ions on time-of-flight (TOF) impact-collision ion scattering (ICISS). The results show that several number of BaO layers are formed on the Si(100) surface with the lattice parameter of bulk phase, and the occupation of oxygen atoms of the BaO layers is on-top site of silicon atoms.

  • In passenger ship building where thin plates are mainly used, conventional arc welding processes result in significant post-weld reworking due to thermal distortion of welded joints. In order to solve this problem, European shipbuilding industries introduced hybrid welding process since the 1990's. for passenger ship, first of all, stability is very important. So, in this study, we investigated effects of hybrid welding conditions on impact toughness of weld metal in passenger ship building using DH36 steel.

  • The main purpose of this study was to estimate a new regression model to explain the relationship between urban forest and air temperature in summer, 2001. This study consists of two parts: correlation coefficient analysis and regression analysis. According to correlation coefficient analysis, thermal infra-red radiations of the major land use categories found significant difference in each category. However there were no significant relationship between the data (thermal infra-red radiation and NDVI) derived from Landsat-7 ETM+ image and air temperature at Automatic Weather Stations(AWSs). After estimating various regression models for summer air temperature, the final models were chosen. The final regression models consisted of two variables such as forest m and traffic facilities area. The regression models explained over 78% of the variability in air temperatures. The regression models with variables of forest area and traffic facilities area showed that the coefficient of the first variable was even more significant than the second one. However, the negative impact of the traffic facilities area was slightly greater than the positive impact of the forest area. Consequently, the effects of forest area and traffic facilities area were apparent to explain summer air temperature in Seoul. Therefore two policies have the most important implications to mitigate the summer air temperature in Seoul: to expand and to conserve the urban forest; and to change the Oafnc facilities'characteristics. The results from this study are expected to be useful not merely in informing the public that urban forest mitigates summer air temperahne, but in urging the necessity of budgets for trees and managing urban forests. It is recommended that field swey of summer air temperature be Performed for the vadidation of the models. • Geochemical and ecological properties of remediated soil and gas exhausted from a low-temperature thermal desorption (LTTD) process were analyzed to assess the environmental impact of LTTD treatment. Soil characteristics were examined with regard to the chemical (EC, CEC, and organic matter) and the ecological (dehydrogenase activity, germination rate of Brassica juncea, and growth of Eisenia andrei) properties. The exhaust gases were analyzed based on the Air Quality Act in Korea as well as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and mixed odor. Level of organic Organic matter of the soil treated by LTTD process was slightly decreased compared to that of the original soil because the heating temperature ($200^{\circ}C$) and retention time (less than 15 minutes) were neither high nor long enough for the oxidation of organic matter. The LTTD process results in reducing TPH of the contaminated soil from $5,133{\pm}508$ mg/kg to $272{\pm}107$ mg/kg while preserving soil properties. Analysis results of the exhaust gases from the LTTD process satisfied discharge standard of Air Quality Law in Korea. Concentration of VOCs including acetaldehyde, propionaldehyde, butyraldehyde and valeraldehyde in circulation gas volatilized from contaminated soil were effectively reduced in the regenerative thermal oxidizer and all satisfied the legal standards. Showing ecologically improved properties of contaminated soil after LTTD process and environmentally tolerable impact of the exhaust gas, LTTD treatment of TPH-contaminated soil is an environmentally acceptable technology.

  • Floating floor is most commonly used at apartment houses in Korea for thermal insulation and reducing impact noise. But it in proven that the floating floor is not effective for reducing the floor impact noise in low frequency range. In most cases, impact sound pressure level under 63 Hz frequency band were actually increased by the resonance of resilient material, lightweight concrete and the finishing mortar installed on it. In this paper, an integrated floor system consist of 70 mm light weight concrete and 40 mm finishing mortar successively installed on the concrete slab was suggested to avoid the resonance. Integrated floor system increases total flexural stiffness and mass per unit area. The natural frequencies of first and second vibration mode were increased and acceleration response and floor impact sound level was decreased in all measurement range.

  • In this research, the impact behavior of the boundary between MMC-reinforced SiC whisker and Al alloy were studied. It is known that the resultant of the interfacial reaction between SiC whisker and Al alloy has brittle and low toughness property. In this paper, impact behavior of graded MMC & Al alloy shows the interfacial opening at the boundary. Generally this phenomenon is generated by thermal residual stress, brittle interfacial reaction resultant and difference of the deflection. So, these results may be interpreted as a macroscopic method of measuring the interfacial strength between matrix and reinforcement

  • Milk is a food with high nutritional value as it contains abundant water, proteins, vitamins, lactose, fat, minerals, enzymes, etc. However, in order to make milk suitable for intake, it should be thermally treated to eliminate microbiologically hazardous factors. Heat treatment is an essential sanitation process for milk, but various precautions must be taken in order to process and preserve it. Therefore, various techniques should be developed to minimize the nutrient loss and to ensure that milk is safe for consumption, conservation, and distribution. However, the existing thermal pasteurization methods are harmful and increase the nutrient loss; moreover, no new thermal pasteurization methods are being researched that are safe for the human health and minimize the nutrient loss. Hence, this study aims to review new processes for thermal (low temperatures) and no thermal pasteurization methods that can minimize the nutrient loss during milk pasteurization.
