The simultaneous occurrence of an intracranial and a spinal subdural hematoma (SDH) is rare. We describe a case of cranial SDH with a simultaneous spinal SDH. An 82-year-old woman visited the emergency room because of drowsiness and not being able to walk 6 weeks after falling down. A neurological examination showed a drowsy mentality. Brain computed tomography showed bilateral chronic SDH with an acute component. The patient underwent an emergency burr-hole trephination and hematoma removal. She exhibited good recovery after the operation. On the fourth postoperative day, she complained of low-back pain radiating to both lower limbs, and subjective weakness of the lower limbs. Spine magnetic resonance imaging revealed a thoracolumbosacral SDH. A follow-up spinal magnetic resonance imaging study that was performed 16 days later showed a significant decrease in the size of the spinal SDH. We discuss the pathogenesis of this simultaneous occurrence of spinal and cranial SDH.

In the construction industry, most safety related researches have been focused on the safety matters in construction job site while the safety issues regarding facility management have been received limited attention. Hence, this research aimed to uncover the problems of current safety management practices then suggest improvement plans. Through the questionnaire suey and analysis, following conclusions were drawn. Regarding the safety mindset, participation rate in safety prevention activities is average at most. Therefore, the extra attention and effort by property owners and managers are required. Examination of accidents indicated that 88% of them were stemmed from unsafe activities, 10% from unstable mentality and 2% from unavoidable natural disasters. Therefore, 90% of these accidents could be prevented by eliminating unsafe activities. In addition to the above findings, several other facts and suggestions are detailed.

Central anticholinergic syndrome occurs when an anticholinergic substance works in vivo or as a result of the insufficient release of acetylcholine. Its symptoms include confusion, agitation, behavioral change, hallucination, blurred vision, and dysarthria. Occasionally, these symptoms occur with the use of a scopolamine patch. A 54-year-old female complained of behavioral change and confused mentality. She attached a scopolamine patch at the postauricular area in the morning of the day before her hospital visit. Neurological examination revealed bilateral symmetric mydriasis without light reflex. The brain MRI was normal, and electroencephalography showed nonspecific abnormalities. The patient recovered completely after the removal of the scopolamine patch.

Primary hryperparathyroidism is a relatively rare disease entity in Korea. It's characterized by severe skeletal and renal changes due to hypersecretion of parathyroid hormone, and rarely shows peptic ulceration, hypertension, pancreatitis and impaired mentality. Recently the determination of the serum calcium level has become a routine laboratory test and the awareness of primary hyperparathyroidism has been incerased, the disease is being diagnosed with increasing frequency. Primary hyperparathyroidism is most commonly caused by parathyroid adenoma and rarely hyperplasia, cancer of parathyroid glands. The authors operated sucessfully a case of primary parathyroid adenoma by diagnosed by nuclear medical diagnostic work-up. The patient had anterior neck mass(soft, non tender nodule) on physical examination, multiple goiter on thyroid ultrasonogram and scan. The parathyroid lesion was difficult to find preoperatively.

This study aims to analyze the multiple meaning of color variously expressed in contemporary architecture. Nowadays heterogeneity, plurality and ephemerality of modem society have been well presented in contemporary architecture. The phenomenal characteristic of color is so appropriate to express the unfixed and immaterialized attributes of contemporary architecture that it can make color a major element of architecture, which, in the past, used to be a minor element for the lack of materiality. Through the analysis of contemporary important building projects in terms of color, it can be concluded that the architectural application of color shows multiple meanings as follows; phenomenal expression, visualization of complex programs and embodiment of design process, reflection of context and control of users' mentality. At the same time, these multiple meanings are complexly presented in a single building project.

According to John Newman's Bibliography of Imaginative Works about American Fighting in Vietnam, there are 1370 entries up to 1996 which deal with the theme of Vietnam War in literature. Among various themes such as war and gender/race and ethnicity/class, this study makes an issue of the contiguity between femininity and death in Vietnam War novels written by Americans to investigate one of the bedrocks upon which the western civilization is founded. Female figures, especially Oriental females are seen as an emblem of death in the novels such as The Thirteenth Valley, Close Quarters, Body Count, and Bamboo Bed. It has been found out that this kind of death obsessive mode of thinking is deeply embedded in Western mentality and argued that its habitual mode needs to be changed.

A GDHS(Geothermal District Heating System) is a heating system supplying a group of districts with heat extracted from geothermal sources. Due to various advantages of GDHS including the saving of fuel consumption as well as the reduction of air pollution, a world-wide trend is to replace central/individual heating systems with GDH systems. The basic point of this paper is that a crash program mentality leads to inappropriate decisions about policy issues in large-scale research and development like the development of GDHS, R&D funding should be viewed as a sequential decision, not a once-and-for-all choice. Hence we develop on economic feasibility assessment model based on a continuous sequential decision process for the Chejoo Island GDHS Project by modifying Roberts's model.

We introduce a patient who was suffered from isolated traumatic bilateral oculomotor nerve palsy after head trauma. The patient presented with bilateral ptosis and abnormal pupilary responses with slightly drowsy mentality at first. Performed images demonstrated some hematomas along subarachnoid, intraventricular, subdural spaces and multiple small supratentorial contusions. There was no bony abnormality or ligament injury. We assumed that small amount of interpeduncular hematoma might be the proper lesion associated with oculomotor nerve palsies, since the clinical symptom and signs presented bilaterally and the oculomotor neural fascicles run through the interpeduncular fossa.

Toluene is an aromatic hydrocarbon found in glues, cements, and solvents. It is known to be toxic to the nervous system, hematopoietic system, and causes acid-base and electrolyte disorders. Acute respiratory failure with hypokalemia and rhabdomyolysis with acute renal failure should be considered as potential events in protracted glue sniffing. We reported the case of 26-year-old woman was admitted to the emergency department with the development of respiratory failure and altered mentality due to hypokalemia after chronic glue sniffing. She was weaned from the ventilator 3 days later after potassium and sodium bicarbonate replacement and was discharged without respiratory symptoms and other complications.

Objectives : This study is designed to observe anaphylatic reaction In two patients, who visited Dong-Eui University Oriental Medicine Center for Bee-Venom Acupuncture. Methods : Anaphylaxis is a clinical syndrome cheracterized by the acute system reaction of multiple organ systems to an IgE-mediated immunologic mediator release in previously sensitized individuals. Anaphylatic reaction of two patients treated by Bee-Venom Acupuncture were observed in order to analysis the clinical form. Results & Conclusion : STZ One case of Anaphylatic reaction was expressed clinically hypotension drowsy mentality, dizziness muscle contraction and so on. The other case was expressed ulticaria, itching sensation, nausea and erythema. Especially ulticaria erythema are end points of increased vascular permeability and vasodilatation at the extreme of the clinical spectrum.
