  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the anti-inflammatory effect of Geumeunwha-san(GEHS) water extract in vitro. Methods : To evaluate the anti-inflammatory effect of GEHS, Raw 264.7 cells were pretreated with 10-300㎍/㎖ of GEHS for 1hr, and then exposed to 1㎍/㎖ of LPS. MTT assay was used to detect the cell viability. Productions of pro-inflammatory cytokines and NO were measured in culture media. By using immunoblot analysis, protein levels of iNOS and NF-𝜅B were determined. Results : In vitro study, cell viability assay on GEHS treatment of 10-300㎍/㎖ has no cytotoxicity in Raw 264.7 cells. Pretreated 100, 300㎍/㎖ of GEHS had significantly inhibited LPS-induced NO production. And also pretreatment of 100, 300㎍/㎖ GEHS had significantly decreased production of interleukin-6, -1𝛽 and tumor necrosis factor-𝛼 in LPS-activated Raw 264.7 cells. In addition, GEHS reduced LPS-mediated iNOS expression. Moreover I-𝜅B𝛼 expression was significantly induced by GEHS and NF-𝜅B expression was reduced by GEHS. Conclusions : These results suggest the clinical basis of GEHS for the treatment of inflammatory diseases.

  • Objectives : The aim of this study is to review domestic clinical studies about dizziness in Korean medicine. (Silsin)" were searched on five database systems(DBpia, KISS, KMbase, NDSL, RISS) from September, 13th to September, 15th, 2016. 60 clinical studies were collected and classified by published journal, year, etiologic disease, study design, dizziness assessment tools of studies, study results, evaluation of disease pattern and process, interventions(herbal medicine and acupuncture treatment points), and number of studies which chose that prescription. Results & Conclusions : Dizziness was researched constantly since 1998 and 7 clinical stuides were issued 2007, the most. The journal which the most studies were presented was Journal of korean oriental internal medicine(12 studies over 60, 20%). Original article were 12(20.0%) and case reports were 48(80.0%) among 60 studies. BPPV was reported as a etiologic disease on 9 studies(20.45%) among 44 studies. VAS was used mainly as dizziness assessment tools of studies(26 studies over 38, 68.42%). 9 studies(15.0%) got evaluation of disease pattern and process among 60. Banhabaekchulcheonma-tang was reported as a herbal medicine prescription on 9 over 44 studies(20.45%) and ST36 was chosen acupuncture point most(24 over 45 studies, 53.33%). It doesn't have enough representativenes but has meaning to apprehend present tendency to treat dizziness in Korean medicine clinical studies.

  • Object : The purpose of this study is to understand age-related maculardegeneration(AMD) with both western and Korean medicine. Methods : We investigated the comprehension of general AMD degenation in both western and Korean medicine through literature review. Results : The results are as follows.1. AMD prevalent increasing as the population ages; however, treatment options remain limited and incompletely defined.2. Generally macular degeneration has been affected by aging and is associate with the function of kidney(腎) and liver(肝) in Korean medicine. Conclusion : Further studies are needed to apply comprehension of AMD in Korean medicine to clinical stage.

Methods : We treated a 25-years-old man patient with exfloliative dermatitis on the limbs and back with Korean medicine. After Korean medical teatment for 26 days, we measured the decrease of dermatitis and recovery of skin exfloliate. We recorded pictures of changes on symptoms. Result & Conclusion : The symptoms of exfloliative dermatitis were significantly improved. The dry skin and itching were disappeared and skin damages were almost recovered. Thus Korean medical treatments are effective on exfloliative dermatitis.

  • Objectives : Charcot neuroarthropathy(CN) is condition characterized by a progressive joint deformation with sensorial and autonomic neuropathy. This study is to report a case of CN improved by Korean medical treatment. Methods : The patient's left foot with CN was treated by Shudihuangkushen-tang, Haifu-san wet dressing, acupuncture and herbal acupuncture. We evaluated the progress by laboratory investigation, radiograph and photograph comparison, visual analogue scale(VAS) of edema and pain sensation. Results : After treatment, VAS score of edema dropped from 6 to 1, of pain sensation slightly improved from 0 to 1. Average blood sugar level decreased and rebounded, but Hemoglobin A1c level improved from 9.5% to 7.7%. Improvement of the left foot was recognized from the radiograph and photograph comparison. Conclusions : This study suggests Korean medicine is effective in treating CN, especially using Shudihuangkushen-tang, Haifu-san wet dressing.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Adenophorae Radix (AR) on melanogenesis of B16F10 mouse melanoma cells. The cells were treated for 5 days with AR at several concentrations. Treatment with AR suppressed melanin contents as a dose dependent manner without cytotoxicity and morphological change. And the extract of AR also inhibited tyrosinase activity, a key enzyme forming melanin, in a dose-dependent manner, Treatment of the cells with Adenophorae Radix also suppressed the increase of α-MSH (10 nM)-induced melanin contents and tyrosinase activity. These results suggest that AR inhibits melanogenesis and abrogates α-MSH-induced melanogenesis in B16 melanoma cells.

  • Background and Objectives: Allergic contact dermatitis is a common environmental health issue and seriously affect the patient's quality of life. The more our environment industrialized, the number of material that could cause the allergic contact dermatitis has been increased, consequently the prevalence of allergic contact dermatitis has been increased. In oriental medicine, clinically Chogam-Tang has been used fur the treatment of allergic dermatitis, eczema, atopic dermatitis etc. The objective of this study is to investigate the effects of Chogam-Tang on allergic contact dermatitis Meterial and Methods: Fifteen Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into three groups: normal, control, experimental group. Control and experimental group were induced allergic contact dermatitis, by DNCB. Experimental group was orally administered the Chogam-Tang. Each group was observed after 24, 48 and 72 hours. Contact hypersensitivity assay, melanin-erythema measurement, pH measurement skin moisture measurement and biopsy were performed. Results: 1. In contact hypersensitivity assay, experimental group showed decreased ear swelling compared with control group at 48hours. 2. ln melanin measurement there was no difference in three groups. 3. In erythema measurement experimental group showed reduction at 48. 72 hours. 4. In pH measurement, experimental group and control group showed increase in pH but there was no statistical significance. 5. In skin moisture measurement, experimental group showed higher skin moisture level than control group at 24 hours and showed lower skin moisture level at 72 hours, but there was no statistical significance. 6. In biopsy, experimental group showed decrement of Iymphocyte as time goes by, and regeneration of keratin layer was increased compared with normal group. Conclusions: Chogam-Tang shows anti-inflammatory effect in biopsy, improves hydration levels of skin, decreases erythema level on allergic contact dermatitis.
