  • With the increasing media representation of aging as negative and abnormal, anti-aging products and discourses are spreading to younger generations. This paper analyzes the anti-aging discourse in a fashion magazine targeted towards women in their 20s. It quantitatively analyzes the historical development of the antiaging industry and discourses from 1994 to 2014 in the magazine "$C{\acute{e}}ci$". It also analyzes the patterns of signification associated with aging in the magazine through the use of critical discourse analysis. This paper identifies five major discourses -"segmentation of the definitions of youthful appearance", "scientific and medical discourse", "self-care discourse", "prevention of aging", and "social values of youthful appearances". The paper finds that the construction of anti-aging discourses towards women in their 20s is heavily influenced by the close link between the anti-aging industry and the fashion media. It also confirms the ideology of self-development though a rigorous appearance-management that is strongly imposed on Korean women and subsequently reproduced in an anti-aging discourse towards women in their 20s.

  • This study aims to derive suggestions to help develop Hanbok education in the future by examining its current status in domestic educational institutions in light of rising social demand for Hanbok in the era of fashion Hanbok. We assessed the Hanbok curriculum in educational institutions nationwide, including universities and specialized institutes, and conducted in-depth interviews to understand the operational status of Hanbok-specialized education. We found that the demand for education on production functions is decreasing, while the demand for in-depth education on the history of Korean costume and education integrating Hanbok with design and marketing is increasing. We also found that, in the case of universities, which play an important role in Hanbok research and education, professional research and training are shrinking in graduate schools, whereas Hanbok subjects are being maintained and new subjects are being taught in undergraduate courses. In the fashion Hanbok era, it has been suggested that Hanbok education needs to converge with design and marketing education, beyond teaching only Hanbok. In addition, the necessity of expanding liberal arts education within universities to meet social demand was proposed, and online education was expected to help spread knowledge.

  • This study investigated the thermal insulation of an air-cell pack embedded jacket and down jackets to understand the potential of air-cell pack as a filler for winter outdoor wear. A thermal manikin measured the thermal insulation of the following jackets: HD (heavy down jacket, total weight (Tw) 750g, goose down weight (Dw) 350g), LD (light down jacket, Tw 560g, Dw 140g), AF (air-cell pack embedded jacket, Tw 490g, trunk goose down in LD was replaced to air cell), F (film jacket, Tw 469g, but removed the air in the air-cell pack from the AF), and Control (control jacket, Tw 438g, removed the air-cell pack film from the F). Thermal insulations of each experimental condition were measured in a static standing posture. Total thermal insulations (IT) were 1.29clo (HD), 1.23clo (LD), 1.16clo (AF), 1.20clo (F), and 1.08clo (Control). Body regional thermal insulation was higher in the chest and back than in the abdomen and hip in all conditions. The results suggest that an economical and versatile outdoor jacket with superior thermal insulation will be feasible if the air volume is properly controlled in air-cell pack embedded jackets in consideration of regional different distribution and used in combination with film and down.

In other words, preference, purchase intention and gift intention of adolescents on Korean image fashion products were analyzed. For this study, four stimuli which reflect Korean image were chosen. We measured design evaluation and adolescent fashion innovativeness. The subjects for this study were 219 high school students. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, ANOVA, Duncan test, cross-tabulation, correlation analysis, multiple regression. The more innovative the subject is, the higher the clothing purchase frequency and the purchase price are. Also, high-innovative group showed that they like Korean image fashion products more than low one. Product attributes such as prettiness and newness significantly influenced purchase intention for their own use and for others as a gift. In conclusion, when related marketers and scholars provide Korean image products that target adolescents, they should try to make those products more sophisticated and modern.
