  • We are at the onset of a major revolution in education, a revolution unparalleled since the invention of the printing press. The computer will be the instrument of this revolution. Computers and computer application are everywhere these days. Everyone can't avoid the influence of the computer in today's world. The computer is no longer a magical, unfamiliar tool that is used only by researchers or scholars or scientists. The computer helps us do our jobs and even routine tasks more effectively and efficiently. More importantly, it gives us power never before available to solve complex problems. Mathematics instruction in secondary schools is frequently perceived to be more a amendable to the use of computers than are other areas of the school curriculum. This is based on the perception of mathematics as a subject with clearly defined objectives and outcomes that can be reliably measured by devices readily at hand or easily constructed by teachers or researchers. Because of this reason, the first large-scale computerized curriculum projects were in mathematics, and the first educational computer games were mathematics games. And now, the entire mathematics curriculum appears to be the first of the traditional school curriculum areas to be undergoing substantial trasformation because of computers. Recently, many research-Institutes of our country are going to study on computers in orders to use it in mathematics education, but the study is still start ing-step. In order to keep abreast of this trend necessity, and to enhance mathematics teaching/learning which is instructed lecture-based teaching/learning at the present time, this study aims to develop/present practical method of computer-using. This is devided into three methods. 1. Programming teaching/learning method This part is presented the following five types which can teach/learn the mathematical concepts and principle through concise program. (Type 1) Complete a program. (Type 2) Know the given program's content and predict the output. (Type 3) Write a program of the given flow-chart and solve the problem. (Type 4) Make an inference from an error message, find errors and correct them. (Type 5) Investigate complex mathematical fact through program and annotate a program. 2. Problem-solving teaching/learning method solving This part is illustrated how a computer can be used as a tool to help students solve realistic mathematical problems while simultaneously reinforcing their understanding of problem-solving processes. Here, four different problems are presented. For each problem, a four-stage problem-solving model of polya is given: Problem statement, Problem analysis, Computer program, and Looking back/Looking ahead. 3. CAI program teaching/learning method This part is developed/presented courseware of sine theorem section (Mathematics I for high school) in order to avail individualized learning or interactive learning with teacher. • We introduce what is the meaning of problem and problem solving and also different type of problems and problem-solving strategies were discussed in this paper, with suggestions for teaching both Polya's four-step strategy and specific problem solving strategies. Many real and concrete examples of routine and nonroutine problems in elementary school mathematics are introduced. Especially, we have researched on the actual condition how children in elementary school think about multiplication of fraction for the routine problem. As a result, we have noticed that children have diverse thinking in their own way and also concrete expressions are much better effective than algorithm showing in textbook.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide basic data on pre-service teacher's education based on cooperative learning-oriented teaching and learning methods by applying cooperative learning to verify the effectiveness of pre-service early childhood teacher's communication and problem-solving ability. In the first semester of 2021, 4th grade students who took the teaching method by subject class opened by department of early childhood education at C university were taught for 11 weeks from March 1st week to May 2nd week in 2021 for 4 hours a week. The results of this study were as follows: First, the average score of interpretive ability was the highest in the sub-areas of communication ability of pre-service early childhood teachers, followed by message conversion ability, role performance ability, self-presentation ability, and goal setting ability in the cooperative learning-oriented teaching method by subject class. Second, in terms of the overall average score of pre-service teacher's problem-solving ability, the average score of post-test was increased compared to the average score of pre-test. Through the cooperative learning-oriented class experience in the university's early childhood teacher training course, it is possible to cultivate the practical ability that can be used variously for the children such as communication ability and problem-solving ability in the early childhood education field. Therefore, it is necessary to provide opportunities for cooperative learning-oriented teaching methods in the teacher's education curriculum.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop the basic design principles for the engineering mathematics teaching model that supported college students to become collaborative problem solvers. For this purpose, the following four design principles were drawn from the steps of systems approach, especially with consideration of needs of engineering students, professors, curriculum and relevant research on mathematical education. As a result, the four design principles for the engineeering mathematics teaching model were drawn as follows: (1) Improve students' basic mathematical learning abilities through repetition and elaborative practice of the basic mathematical concepts and principles, (2) Develop students' problem solving abilities through collaborative projects or learning activities with peers, (3) Facilitate students' reflection and provide teacher's monitoring and prompt feedback during their learning process, and (4) Build up online learning environments that enable students to become self-regulated learners.

  • The aim of this study focused on student-centered learning not teacher-centered teaching in middle school math classes. This study was performed to check the growth of students' problem-solving abilities, learning attitudes and changes in learning motivation among affective characteristics. The results of this study is as followings: 1) The controlled group a heterogeneous group which had classes in a math room, had more meaningful growth than the uncontrolled group. The results of the study show that the problem-solving abilities of the high-leveled group were better than those of the low-leveled group. 2) The controlled group has shown meaningful difference in their mean in learning aptitude test and attitude test converted their score into 100 points than uncontrolled group, and various kinds of learning materials suitable for problem solving are proved as a good learning factor to induce students' motivation and interest. 3) Students prefer to have classes in a math room to the small-sized and large-numbered classrooms. The atmosphere in a math room is more suitable to improving their problem-solving abilities. In this context, the classes performed in a math room are fairly positive. Consequently, students' leveled learning activities performed in a math room can get their learning motivation and attention from those who are lack of interest and think math is difficult and be effective to increase their problem-solving abilities as a learning method for acquiring the whole course of solving the problems.

  • The purpose of this study is to search an effective teaching & learning program by examining how much does Excel affect on problem solving of linear function. This study was based on qualitative case study. Teaching experiment was performed for seven periods with five students in 8th graders. Pre and posts tests were attempted to analyze the changes of student's ability on problem solving of linear function. The analysis of tests were performed in category with correct process-object perspective, near process-object perspective, incorrect process-object perspective. According to this study, the subjects showed an improvement on problem solving perspective of linear function. This meant that lessons using Excel had influenced on the problem solving of linear function. We noticed that exploring the learning environment with Excel could supplement paper-and-pencil environment. We believed that Excel with an intuitive dynamic and explorative skills can play a role in scaffolding to support problem solving of linear function.

  • During problem solving, "mathematical thought process" is a systematic sequence of thoughts triggered between logic and insight. The test questions are formulated into several areas of questioning-types which can reveal rather different result. The lower level questions are to investigate individual ability to solve multiple mathematical problems while using "mathematical thought." During problem solving, "mathematical thought process" is a systematic sequence of thoughts triggered between logic and insight. The scope of this case study is to present a desirable model in solving mathematical problems and to improve teaching methods for math teachers.

  • Problem Solving has been emphasized for recent decades, and many research case studies have been used to improve students' Problem Solving abilities. However, the gap of students' abilities can be easily shown after enrollment into school in spite of scholar's attempt to reduce students' level of differentiation. Besides, it is clear that teachers have been too readily assisting students' and not allowing them to acquire the process of Problem Solving, and this may be due to impatience. Therefore, students seem to show signs of the dependent tendency towards teachers and other materials. This tendency easily allows students' to depend on teaching resources without attempting any developmental mechanism of Problem Solving. The presupposition of this study is that every student must solve a problem without any assistance, and also this study is to provide new cognitive strategies for both teachers and students who want to solve their problems by themselves through the process of visible Problem Solving. After applying the student-based problem-solving model by this study, it was found to be effective. Therefore this will lead to the improvement of the Problem Solving and knowledge acquisition of students.
