Secondary School Science Teachers' Perception of Inquiry Learning (탐구 학습에 관한 중등 과학 교사들의 인식)

  • Secondary school science teachers' preception on inquiry learning was investigated by using questionnaires. According to these results, science teachers, who are participants of the current Korea National Science Curriculum, responded that raising the 'interest in science' was the most important objective of science education, and using practical scientific subject matters in class will do such. More than 72% of science teachers have used reconstructed materials. When reconstructed textbook contents were used, teachers through that the most important object is the 'acquirement of scientific knowledge'. Most science teachers perceived inquiry leaning as a student centered open investigation. Among factors that disturb inquiry leaning, critical ones were 'entrance examination', 'lake of teaching-leaning materials', 'little understanding of inquiry leaning', and 'lake of student's will to inquiry'.

  • The purpose of this study was to find the relationship between elementary school teachers' beliefs of inquiry and science performance assessment. To collect data for analyzing elementary school teachers' beliefs of inquiry and their practice of science performance assessment, the researcher was surveyed with elementary school teachers by open-ended questionnaires and interview. The findings of this study were as follows; First, Most of elementary school teachers beliefs of inquiry was shown as constructivist tendency. This view of inquiry involves watching and doing experiments, and the skills of thinking processes, in which learners make their own interpretations rather than merely acquiring preexisting knowledge structures. Second, for content knowledge, participants' preception about the target of science performance assessment involved assessing application of science knowledge rather than basic level of substantive knowledge. For inquiry process, participants' preception about the target of science performance assessment involved assessing the lower level of inquiry rather than the higher level of inquiry. Most of participants was measured using a paper and pencil test for the actual evaluation methods due to the ease and objectivity of the assessment, the lack of understanding how to perform the performance evaluation process and method. Especially, participants who recognize that the higher level of inquiry was used performance and informal mode of assessing.

The Relationships among Knowledge, Information Seeking Behavior, and Willingness for Education about Human Papillomavirus Vaccination in the Middle or High School Teachers (중·고등학교 보건교사의 자궁경부암 예방백신에 대한 지식과 암 정보추구행위 및 교육의지)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationships among knowledge, cancer information seeking behavior, and Willingness for education about Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination among school teachers. Methods: The subjects were 135 teachers who had were working in the middle or high school in Korea. Data were collected by a self-report questionnaire, 2011. Data were analyzed by using the SPSS WIN 18.0 program. Results: There was a positive relationship between information seeking behavior and Willingness for education about HPV vaccination. There were differences in Willingness for education according to necessity of HPV vaccination for premarital women above 16-year old and marital women below 45-year old, and necessity of education for students. The Willingness for education were predicted by information seeking behavior, groups who HPV vaccination is necessary to premarital women above 16-year old, and HPV vaccination education for student is necessary. These variables explained 25.0% of the variance of the Willingness for education about HPV vaccination. Conclusion: The Willingness for education about HPV vaccination among middle or high school teachers could be improved by the emphasis of the preception that HPV vaccination is necessary to middle or high school students and is related to the prevention of cervical cancer.

Teachers' Preception and Practice on Portfolio Assessment in the Field of Early Childhood Education (유아교육현장에서의 포트폴리오 평가에 대한 교사의 인식과 실제)

  • We investigated the differences between the teachers' perception and practice on portfolio assessments in kindergartens and daycare centers, and analyzed their dependence on various underlying factors. The participants of this study include 304 teachers in the kindergartens and daycare centers in J I G cities in Jeollabuk-do. The answers on the questionnaires were analysed by evaluating frequencies, percentage, averages, and standard deviations, and by carrying out paired t-test, ANOVA, and Scheff$\acute{e}$ verification using SPSS 18.0 program. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, teachers' practice fell meaningfully short of their perception in every sub-categories of the method and the effect of the portfolio assessment. Among the various underlying factors, only teachers' educational level played significant role. The difference between the perception and practice was relatively large among the teachers with regular 4-year college diploma as compared to junior-college graduates. Second, as we examine the difficulties in the portfolio assessment, teachers in general found difficulties on the questionnaires in all sub-categories, although the dependence on the underlying factors varies across the sub-categories. For example, teachers with higher level of education or who work at public kindergartens felt relatively more difficulties in the portfolio assessment.

Comparison of high school administrators' perception and teachers' on the introduction and utilization of "Instruction to Intellectual Property" based on the 2015 Revised National Curriculum (2015 개정 교육과정에 기초한 고등학교 '지식 재산 일반' 교과의 도입과 활용에 대한 학교 관리자와 교사의 인식 비교 연구)

  • The study aims to find the strategies to support the successful settlement of "Introduction to Intellectual Property" which was established as a new subject based on the 2015 Revised National Curriculum in order to assist high school students to explore career choices. For the research purpose accomplished, the study was performed to compare high school administrators' perception with teachers' regarding how they differently perceive the introduction and utilization of "Introduction to Intellectual Property" in the educational environment of high schools. The survey tool was developed through the content investigation of two experts in the field of invention education. Questionnaires were administered to 115 participants in a training course run by KIPA(Korea Invention Promotion Association) for high school administrators and teachers, which lasted for one month, December in the year of 2016. However, 95 questionnaires were analyzed for the research. SPSS 22.K was utilized for data analysis with the 5% significance level. The study findings are as follow: First, both administrators' group and teachers' showed the moderate level of perception according to the necessity of the subject as well as the curriculum content of "Introduction to Intellectual Property". Second, the two groups presented the above-average of preception according to the utilization of the subject, and the high level of perception regarding the necessity of strategies for the successful settlement in high schools. Third, teachers' perception on the curriculum of "Introduction to Intellectual Property" was higher than administrators' within the statistically significant level. Moreover, the two groups showed the significant difference only in the effort to facilitate intramural activities based on the subject regarding perceiving the necessity of the subject.
