The mechanical behavior of Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Composites (FRCC) under direct shear is studied through experiment and analytical simulation. The cementitious composite considered contains 55% replacement of cement with fly ash and 2% (volume ratio) of short discontinuous synthetic fibers (in the form of mass reinforcement, comprising PVA - Polyvinyl Alcohol fibers). This class of cementitious materials exhibits ductility under tension with the formation of multiple fine cracks and significant delay of crack stabilization (i.e., localization of cracking at a single location). One of the behavioral parameters that concern structural design is the shear strength of this new type of fiber reinforced composites. This aspect was studied in the present work with the use of Push-off tests. The shear strength is then compared to the materials' tensile and splitting strength values.

Paper tube industry for synthetic fiber packaging has approximately 200 billion won of market size in Korea, while any significant research has not done yet about physical characteristics of paper tubes. This study was conducted to find out a adequate structure of paper tubes by changing compositions of paperboards, size of tubes, and makers. Parallel compression strength was not only rely on compositions of paperboards, but also largely impacted by structural design of paper tubes.
The need for the effective flame retardant finishing for synthetic fiber Is required. This paper is focussed on the analysis of physical properties of nylon 6 fabric treated with tris(2-chloroethyl) phosphate(TCEP) in comparision with the untreated fabric. In order to evaluate the flame retardance effect, limiting oxygen index and burn rate were determined. Above 20% add-on of TCEP on nylon 6 fabric, reasonable flame retardancy was observed. Thermal stability of the treated nylon 6 fabric was evaluated by TGA. It seems that TCEP acts via a condensed phase mechanism. Tenacity and moisture regain of the treated fabrics were not changed and washfastness of those was excellent.

Development of simple and efficient method for large-scale production of mechanically strong and electrically conductive graphene fiber is highly desirable for practical applications, such as fiber-reinforced composites, wearable electronics, and electromagnetic irradiation shielding. Here, we present a facile approach for the preparation of amine-functionalized graphene fibers by simple wet-spinning of diamine-functionalized graphene oxide (GO-$NH_2$), which is used because of its synthetic convenience, good dispersity, and scalable production with low cost. The amine-functionalized graphene fiber shows high electrical and mechanical properties compared to pristine graphene oxide fiber due to the electrostatic interaction between amine groups and electronegative functional groups of graphene oxide.

This study investigated spalling prevention and fire resistance properties of the high strength concrete using pre-mixed cement containing fiber to prepare the method for the effective throwing of hybrid fiber. For result of a fire test, almost specimens were protected from fire except 15% of W/C. Totally, the pre-mixed cement containing fiber was favorable compared with passive mixing method for the spalling prevention. It is more effective to prevent spalling caused by fine diversion of fiber even in high strength concrete because it contained many corporate materials. Moreover, the temperature history of the side steel bar on the column test with pre-mixed cement containing fiber did not over 538$^{\circ}C$ which is the average for the standard of fire resistance performance.
Cement composites subjected to high-velocity projectile shows local failure and it can be suppressed by improvement of flexural toughness with reinforcement of fiber. Therefore, researches on impact resistance performance of cement composites are in progress and a number of types of fiber reinforcement are being developed. Since bonding properties of fiber with matrix, specific surface area and numbers of fiber are different by fiber reinforcement type, mechanical properties of fiber reinforced cement composites and improvement of impact resistance performance need to be considered. In this study, improvement of flexural toughness and failure reduction effect by impact of high-velocity projectile have been evaluated according to fiber type by mixing steel fiber, polyamide, nylon and polyethylene which are have different shape and mechanical properties. As results, flexural toughness was improved by redistribution of stress and crack prevention with bridge effect of reinforced fibers, and scabbing by high-velocity impact was suppressed. Since it is possible to decrease scabbing limit thickness from impact energy, thickness can be thinner when it is applied to protection. Scabbing of steel fiber reinforced cement composites was occurred and it was observed that desquamation of partial fragment was suppressed by adhesion between fiber and matrix. Scabbing by high-velocity impact of synthetic fiber reinforced cement composites was decreased by microcrack, impact wave neutralization and energy dispersion with a large number of fibers.
The method measuring LEP (liquid entry pressure) was optimized to evaluate the wettabilities of hydrophobic membranes which might affect long-term durability of membrane in MD (membrane distillation) process. Conductivity of the permeate was monitored to measure the LEPs of PE (polyethylene) and PVDF (polyvinylidene di-fluoride) hollow fiber membranes from highly concentrated synthetic feed water of 20 wt% NaCl. Holding time over 5 min and the ratio of membrane area to the tank volume more than $10m^2/m^3$ were required to ensure LEP value.

This study was conducted to investigate on the combustion characteristic with the effects of mat thickness and fuel kinds in a metal-fiber burner. The mode transition point is confirmed by the K value, which was defined as the rate of flow velocity and laminar burning velocity. The ($T^4_{sur}-T^4_{\infty}$) is highest at methane flame with 3 T thickness. Through the measurement of the unburned mixture temperature, the possibility of submerged flame in surface combustion burner was confirmed. The rapid emission of CO occurs nearby limit blow out (LBO) because of the increase of flow velocity. In case of NOx, the trend is similar with surface temperature. However, it also considered that the NOx emission is affected by residence time with flame position.
The roles of polypropylene (PP) beads and pH on membrane fouling and treatment efficiency were investigated in a hybrid advanced water treatment process of tubular carbon fiber membranes (ultrafiltration (UF) or microfiltration (MF)) and PP beads. The synthetic feed including humic acid and kaolin flowed inside the membrane, and the permeated contacted the PP beads fluidized in the space between the membrane and the module with UV irradiation and periodic water back-flushing. In the hybrid process of UF ($0.05{\mu}m$) and PP beads, final resistance of membrane fouling ($R_f$) after 180 min increased as PP beads increased. The turbidity treatment efficiency was the maximum at 30 g/L; however, that of dissolved organic matters (DOM) showed the highest at PP beads 50 g/L. The $R_f$ strengthened as pH of feed increased. It means that the membrane fouling could be inhibited at low alkali condition. The treatment efficiency of turbidity was almost constant independent of pH; however, that of DOM showed the maximum at pH 5. For MF ($0.1{\mu}m$), the final $R_f$ was the minimum at PP beads 40 g/L. The treatment efficiencies of turbidity and DOM were the maximum at PP beads 10 g/L.
