  • Let R = ⊕α∈Γ Rα be a commutative ring graded by an arbitrary torsionless monoid Γ. A homogeneous prime ideal P of R is said to be strongly homogeneous prime if aP and bR are comparable for any homogeneous elements a, b of R. We will say that R is a graded pseudo-valuation ring (gr-PVR for short) if every homogeneous prime ideal of R is strongly homogeneous prime. In this paper, we introduce and study the graded version of the pseudo-valuation rings which is a generalization of the gr-pseudo-valuation domains in the context of arbitrary Γ-graded rings (with zero-divisors). We then study the possible transfer of this property to the graded trivial ring extension and the graded amalgamation. Our goal is to provide examples of new classes of Γ-graded rings that satisfy the above mentioned property.

  • The theoretical calculations for $B_nH_n$, $B_nH_{n+1}$, $B_nH_{n+2}$ (n = 3-6) have been considered at the B3LYP level of theory with the 6-311G$^*$ basis set. The optimized geometries, harmonic vibrational frequencies, and binding energies are evaluated to elucidate the thermodynamic stability and spectroscopic properties. The harmonic vibrational frequencies for the molecules considered in this study show all real numbers implying true minima and the binding energies are corrected using zero-point vibrational energies (ZPVE). The binding energies and average energies due to increasing of BH monomer are predicted.

  • We report, for the first time, the afternoon (i.e., from noon to sunset time) observations of the northern mid-latitude E-region field-aligned irregularities (FAIs) made by the very high frequency (VHF) coherent backscatter radar operated continuously since 29 December 2009 at Daejeon (36.18°N, 127.14°E, 26.7°N dip latitude) in South Korea. We present the statistical characteristics of the mid-latitude afternoon E-region FAIs based on the continuous radar observations. Echo signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the afternoon E-region FAIs is found to be as high as 35 dB, mostly occurring around 100-135 km altitudes. Most spectral widths of the afternoon echoes are close to zero, indicating that the irregularities during the afternoon time are not related to turbulent plasma motions. The occurrence of afternoon E-regional FAI is observed with significant seasonal variation, with a maximum in summer and a minimum in winter. Furthermore, to investigate the afternoon E-region FAIs-Sporadic E (Es) relationship, the FAIs have also been compared with Es parameters based on observations made from an ionosonde located at Icheon (37.14°N, 127.54°E, 27.7°N dip latitude), which is 100 km north of Daejeon. The virtual height of Es (h'Es) is mainly in the height range of 105 km to 110 km, which is 5 km to 10 km greater than the bottom of the FAI. There is no relationship between the FAI SNR and the highest frequencies (ftEs) (or blanket frequencies (fbEs)). SNR of FAIs, however, is found to be related well with (ftEs-fbEs).

  • Hydrogen is evaluated as one of the new energy sources that can overcome the limitations and pollution problems of conventional fossil fuels. Although hydrogen is CO2-free, attention is required in NOx emission and flame stability in order to use hydrogen in existing gas fuel system. However, use of electric grids is an unrealistic strategy for decarbonization for residential and commercial heating. Instead, use of H2 that utilizes city gas grid is suggested as a reasonable alternative in terms of compatibility with existing systems, economic feasibility, and accessibility. In this study, the thermal efficiency and NOx performance of the boiler according to the H2 mixture ratio and vapor humidified ratio are reviewed for a humidified NG-H2 boiler that vapor humidity to combustion air. Mixed fuel with H2 (20%) is almost similar to NG in terms of efficiency, flame temperature, and pollution performance. Thus, it is expected to be directly compatible with the existing NG system. If the exhaust temperature of the H2 boiler is lowered to around 60℃ at a humidified ratio of 15-20%, the NOx emission concentration can be suppressed to about 5-10 ppm. The level of efficiency reaches 87% of the rated load efficiency, which is equivalent to the highest grade achievable.

  • A novel parallel three-level zero voltage switching (ZVS) DC converter is presented for medium voltage applications. The proposed converter includes three sub-circuits connected in parallel with the same power switches to share load current and reduce the current stress of passive components at the output side. Thus, the size of the output chokes is reduced and the switch counts in the proposed converter are less that in the conventional parallel three-level DC/DC converter. Each sub-circuit combines one half-bridge converter and one three-level converter. The transformer secondary windings of these two converters are connected in series in order to reduce the size of output inductor. Due to the three-level circuit topology, the voltage stress of power switches is equal to $V_{in}/2$. Based on the resonant behavior by the output capacitance of power switches and the leakage inductance (or external inductance) at the transition interval, each switch can be turned on under ZVS. Finally, experiments based on a 2 kW prototype are provided to verify the performance of the proposed converter.

  • This paper presents a new resonant converter to achieve the soft switching of power devices. Two full-bridge converters are connected in series to clamp the voltage stress of power switches at Vin/2. Thus, power MOSFETs with a 500V voltage rating can be used for 800V input voltage applications. Two flying capacitors are connected on the AC side of the two full-bridge converters to automatically balance the two split input capacitor voltages in every switching cycle. Two resonant tanks are used in the proposed converter to share the load current and to reduce the current stress of the passive and active components. If the switching frequency is less than the series resonant frequency of the resonant tanks, the power MOSFETs can be turned on under zero voltage switching, and the rectifier diodes can be turned off under zero current switching. The switching losses on the power MOSFETs are reduced and the reverse recovery loss is improved. Experiments with a 1.5kW prototype are provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed converter.

  • In this paper, the effects of aggregate and curing temperature on strength development characteristics of UP (Unsaturated Polyester)-MMA (Methyl Methacrylate) based polymer mortar under sub-zero temperature are experimentally investigated to provide a criterion for repair and production of precast products. The result showed that the setting time of the binder was 4 minutes at $20^{\circ}C$ whereas 35 minutes at $-20^{\circ}C$. The result also revealed that the compressive, flexural, and splitting tensile strengths of UP-MMA based polymer mortar significantly decreased as the aggregate and curing temperatures decreased. However, sufficient strengths which can be implemented in actual practices -36.6 MPa of compressive strength, 6.11 MPa of flexural strength, and 5.81 MPa of splitting tensile strength - were obtained even though both aggregate and curing temperatures were $-20^{\circ}C$. Strength development of polymer mortar is largely affected by curing temperature rather than aggregate temperature. It was found that the effects of aggregate temperature on strength development become smaller as the curing temperature becomes lower. Also, toughness, a ratio of compressive strength to flexural strength, increased from 3.5 to 5.9 as both aggregate and curing temperatures decreased from $20^{\circ}C$ to $-20^{\circ}C$.

  • We propose pulse-mode dynamic $R_on$ measurement as a method for analyzing the effect of stress on large-scale high-power AlGaN/GaN HFETs. The measurements were carried out under the soft-switching condition (zero-voltage switching) and aimed to minimize the self-heating problem that exists with the conventional hard-switching measurement. The dynamic $R_on$ of the fabricated AlGaN/GaN MIS-HFETs was measured under different stabilization time conditions. To do so, the drain-gate bias is set to zero after applying the off-state stress. As the stabilization time increased from $ 0.1{\mu}s$ to 100 ms, the dynamic $R_on$ decreased from $160\Omega$ to $2\Omega$. This method will be useful in developing high-performance GaN power FETs suitable for use in high-efficiency converter/inverter topology design.

  • Three structure-dependent integration methods with no numerical dissipation have been successfully developed for time integration. Although these three integration methods generally have the same numerical properties, such as unconditional stability, second-order accuracy, explicit formulation, no overshoot and no numerical damping, there still exist some different numerical properties. It is found that TLM can only have unconditional stability for linear elastic and stiffness softening systems for zero viscous damping while for nonzero viscous damping it only has unconditional stability for linear elastic systems. Whereas, both CEM and CRM can have unconditional stability for linear elastic and stiffness softening systems for both zero and nonzero viscous damping. However, the most significantly different property among the three integration methods is a weak instability. In fact, both CRM and TLM have a weak instability, which will lead to an adverse overshoot or even a numerical instability in the high frequency responses to nonzero initial conditions. Whereas, CEM possesses no such an adverse weak instability. As a result, the performance of CEM is much better than for CRM and TLM. Notice that a weak instability property of CRM and TLM might severely limit its practical applications.

  • In order to investigate the fish behavior in the water tank, the three dimensional positioning system with two CCD cameras was designed. The positioning system was tested at the vertical circulation water channel with observational part of 1,500L$\times$1,500W$\times$500H mm and the circular water tank with 2,050ø sub(1)$\times$1,850ø sub(2)$\times$400H mm. The observational error of vertical direction was larger than that of horizontal direction, and the observational error became enlarged in all directions according to the increase of depth and distance from the visual axis. The maximum observational errors of horizontal and vertical directions at the circulation channel ranged from -1.7 cm to 1.8 cm (2.4%) and zero to 2.1 cm (4.2%), respectively. But the errors of horizontal and vertical directions at the circular tank ranged from -1.3 cm to 1.3 cm (1.3%) and zero to 1.3 cm (3.3%), respectively.
