Large Midwest university faculty members proposed the Science and Technology Enhancement Program Project (STEP) to improve students' learning in the secondary mathematics classroom using modules of inquiry-based teaching. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of the STEP Project on students' attitude toward mathematics. Hierarchical linear models (HLM) were used to evaluate the impact of the STEP Project. The sample group for the study was 130 ninth grade students enrolled in Integrated Algebra I in a large urban school district. The school was one of eight secondary schools that participated in the STEP Project. The classes in the treatment group were three of five classes ordered in terms of the highest, middle, and lowest mean GPA. The control group consisted of two other middle GPA classes. The classes had an average of 25 students. Teachers who previously had been involved in the STEP Project taught all treatment and control classes. The inquiry-based teaching activities provided by the project were confined to the treatment classes. The survey measuring students' attitudes toward mathematics were obtained for both groups of students. The inquiry-based teaching affected students' attitudes toward mathematics (p < 0.07, ES = 3.07). Especially, students who had preexisting low attitudes toward mathematics were significantly affected by treatment (p < 0.02, ES = 0.02), while the treatment positively affected African American students overall at p < 0.08 (ES = 0.58).
In this study, we divided the teaching and learning of proof into three steps in the demonstrative geometry of the middle school mathematics. And then we surveyed the student's difficulties in the teaching and learning of proof by using of questionnaire. Results of this survey suggest that students cannot only understand the meaning of proof in the teaching and learning of proof but also they cannot deduce simple mathematical reasoning as judgement for the truth of propositions. Moreover, they cannot follow the hypothesis to a conclusion of the proposition It results from the fact that students cannot understand clearly the meaning and the role of hypotheses and conclusions of propositions. So we need to focus more on teaching students about the meaning and role of hypotheses and conclusions of propositions.
Research in teachers' knowledge for teaching mathematics (KTM) has been gradually growing for the past several years. With various conceptualizations about what teachers need to teach mathematics, there have been studies to find out the relationship between teachers' KTM and their students' achievement. In this paper, I reviewed various conceptualizations of teacher's mathematical knowledge for teaching, and existing qualitative and quantitative studies about this relationship. Based on the review, I identified the challenges to studying this relationship mainly focusing on the existence of a phase-teaching practice-between teachers' KTM and students' learning. Considering the challenges that have been identified in the literature review, I proposed topics for future studies that would contribute to our understanding how the teachers' KTMare related to their students' achievement, and investigate further about whether and how teacher-student interaction in classroom is related to changes in teachers' KTM.

The purpose of this study is to design a Content-based Korean Class model using Flipped learning for foreign students. The class model that presents on this paper will lead the language learning through content learning, also it will be enable the student more active and to have an initiative in the class. Prior to designing a Content-based Korean Class model using Flipped learning, the concepts and educational significance and characteristics of flip learning were reviewed through previous studies. Then, It emphasizes the necessity of teaching method adapting Flipped learning to Content-based teaching method in Korean language education. It also suggests standards and principles of composition in Contents-based teaching method using Flipped learning. After designing the instructional model based on the suggested standards and principles, it presents a course of instruction about how learning methods, contents and activities should be done step by step. The Content-based Korean class model using the Flipped learning will be an alternative approach to overcome the limitations of teacher-centered teaching methods and lecture-teaching methods which are the dominant of present classroom environment.
While online research is in full swing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Education announced a plan to gradually switch face-to-face classes along with 'recovery of daily life'. As such, there is a need for an agreement that appropriately considers the position of promoting face-to-face classes, the position of studying online classes, and the position of students taking classes. Therefore, this paper intends to examine the teaching method of Coexist with COVID-19 centered on the student's position as the host of the class. It is expected that this study will be able to suggest directions for innovative teaching methods that reflect the considerations of teachers' teaching methods and analyze the needs of learners who are consumers.
The preservice elementary teachers' achievement goal orientations(mastery/ability-approach/ability-avoidance/work-avoidance goal) for science teaching were measured. The student teachers(91 males and 127 females) tended to have the mastery or ability-approach goals rather than the ability-avoidance or work-avoidance goals for science teaching. The male students were more learning focused than were the females, while the female students reported stronger work-avoidance goal orientation than did the males. This study also examined how the preservice teachers' achievement goal orientations were related to their science teaching efficacy beliefs(personal science teaching efficacy belief/science teaching outcome expectancy). As expected, the results showed that there were significantly positive relationships between the mastery or ability-approach goals and science teaching efficacy beliefs, while the significantly negative relationships were found between the ability-avoidance or work-avoidance goal and personal science teaching efficacy belief. The educational implications and future directions were discussed.

This study described the application of constructivism and information technology for teaching simple random sampling. We considered more student's participation, more interaction, and more flow in their introductory statistics class. In addition, we presented a web-based teaching and learning system for simple random sampling to demonstrate.
This paper explores how unequally successful mathematics practices were constructed in the two elementary mathematics classrooms. The interview data that pertain to the two teachers' personal reflections on the influences on their professional development were used as a source of inquiry to identify the underlying factors that might account for the differences and the similarities in implementing reform ideals in teaching mathematics. This affords not only exploration of the challenges of moving teaching practices toward student-centered approaches but also insight of the processes of developing mathematics teaching practices through teachers\`own career paths.
For Probabilistic Reasoning Ability is useful to predict uncertain fact from information, it's getting more important. But when we consider the actual condition of teaching Probabilistic Reasoning Ability, it doesn't correspond with its importance. So the purpose of this study is, by developing Basic Contents of Probabilistic Reasoning Teaching; by developing and applying Probabilistic Reasoning Teaching Program, to study how the application of it effects the progress of the student's Probabilistic Reasoning Ability.
Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics, Grades K-12: 14 Teaching Practices for Enhancing Learning is Liljedahl's latest book that cumulated his long-term research project. He provides concrete advice on each of 14 research-based teaching practices, along with answers to frequently asked questions and suggestions for getting started, which will help you build your thinking classroom.
