  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate experimentally the strength and deformation of T-joints to improve the structural behavior of truss connection consisted in square hollow steel section. There are two-types to be changed in T-joint shape. One type is TP-series that a brace member is rotated to 45 degree, another type is TR-series that a chord member is rotated to 45 degree. The most important results obtained from the 2nd experiment on the T-joints is as follow; The yielding strength and initial stiffness of TP-series increase more than a current type(TS-series) in $0.6{\leq}{\beta}(d/D){\leq}0.7(0.85{\leq}{\beta}$'$(={\sqrt2}{\cdot}{\beta}){\leq}1.0)$.

  • This paper presents an experimental study on flexural behavior of structural member enlarged with epoxy mortar system. The main test variable is flexural tensile strength. A series of 4 test beams was tested to shoe the corresponding effect of each variables on maximum load capacity, load-deflection and moment-curvature relationship, interface behavior and failure mode. The results show that the flexural tensile strength of retrofitted materials have no relation load-deflection, but to load-strain, and failure mode.

  • In this paper, It is presented that concrete-filled composite piers have large energy-absorption capacity and high strength and stiffness on account of mutual confinement between the steel plate and filled-in concrete. Concrete-filled composite columns were tested to failure under axial compression and cyclic lateral loading. Displacement ductility index obtained by using the load-displacement relation has been increased with the increment of filled-in concrete length, while it has been decreased according to the incrementation of width-thickness ratio, slenderness ratio and the number of loading cycles. Structural behavior and ductility index estimated for the seismic design showed that composite piers could be used as a very efficient earthquake-resistant structural member. The response modification factor could be re-evaluated for concrete-filled composite piers.

  • This study presents an effective stiffness-based optimal technique to control quantitatively lateral drift and evaluates the structural behavior characteristics and efficiency for tall outrigger system subject to lateral loads. To this end, displacement sensitivity depending on behavior characteristics of outrigger system is established and approximation concept that can efficiently solve large scale problems is introduced. Specifically, under the 'constant-shape' assumption, resizing technique of member is developed. Two types of 60 story frameworks are presented to illustrate the features of the quantitative lateral drift control technique proposed in this study.

  • Structural analysis and design of steel frames is usually conducted under the assumption that beam-to-column connections are either fixed or pinned. In reality, each connection possesses a certain rotational stiffness. In this study, structural analysis program is developed, which takes into account the nonlinear behavior of framed structures including flexibility of semi-rigid connections and member geometric nonlinearity. Effective semi-rigid connections for a 6-story unbraced steel frame are suggested and the effect of flexible connections on the behavior of the structure are studied.

  • This study proposed to beam-column joint model consisting of different type structural member to develop new structural system in the structural viewpoint as to a method to overcome various problem according to change of construction environment. This study promoted rigidity and capacity to stiffen reinforced concrete for steel structure end to increase rigidity of long spaned steel beam, and welt to steel flange to anchor U-shaped main bar of SRC structure end to easy stress flow between the different type structure. Through the series of experiments, proposed to possibility of this joint model, and investigated joint rigidity and capacity.

  • It were found that the heavyweight waste glass can be used as a construction materials including concrete from previous experimental studies. In this study, in order to evaluate the structural behavior of RC members using heavyweight waste glass as fine aggregate, a flexural behavior test was performed. And then, its results were compared with those obtained from non-linear finite element model analysis. From the results, when the heavyweight waste glass as fine aggregate in RC member, the area of compressive crushing and the number of cracks increased, however, the mean of cracking spacing decreased. Also it had reduced the ductility at high loading stage. For this reason, the same analysis method about the RC member using natural sand as fine aggregate did not predict the initial stiffness, yield load and maximum load on the flexural behavior of the RC members using heavyweight waste glass as fine aggregate. On the other hand, when it is analytically implemented the reduction of neutral axis depth due to developed compression crushing, the results of non-linear finite element analysis could be predicted the experimental results, relatively well.

  • This paper deals with the application of the numerical differentiation using the differential quadrature(DQ) in the curved member-like structural analysis. Derivative values of the geometry of structure are definitely needed for analyzing the structural behavior. For verifying the numerical differentiation using DQ, free vibration problems of arch are selected. Terms of curvature composed with the derivatives of arch geometry obtained herein are agreed quite well with exact values obtained explicitly. Natural frequencies subjected to terms of curvature obtained by DQ are agreed quite well with those in the literature. The numerical differentiation using DQ can be practically utilized in the structural analysis.

  • The structural behavior of connections between concrete-filled rectangular tubular column (CFRT column) and steel beam has been studied in this paper through sub-assemblage loading tests. It is found that the sub-assemblages exhibit ductile restoring force characteristics under seismic loading. A formula for the prediction of the yield strength of each member in the connection is proposed by using the yield line theory under the assumption of a simple stress transfer mechanism. It is shown that the proposed formula can produce a reasonable prediction while providing a basis for further investigation.

  • The tension stiffening effect, which means the maintaining a part of stiffness after cracking of concrete in tensile, exists at a reinforced concrete member because of the concrete softening and bonding stress between cracks. It is required to consider it for precise analysis and evaluation o structural behavior, due to the possibility of discrepancy between the actual behavior and the analysis without considering the tension stiffening effect. Making and adopting a tension stiffening model is the most simple and effective way for considering it at nonlinear analysis which indicated the estimation from models and experimental results were similar each others. The comparisons on RC beam were, also performed in order to analyzed the influence of concrete strength and steel ratio into the structural behavior. They indicated that the results from analysis estimated quite closely to the test results at low steel ratio, however, overestimated at high steel ratio. The overestimation increase linearly as concrete strength or steel ratio increased.
