Development of optimum design curves for reinforced concrete beams based on the INBR9

  • Structural optimization is one of the most important topics in structural engineering and has a wide range of applicability. Therefore, the main objective of the present study is to apply the Lagrange Multiplier Method (LMM) for minimum cost design of singly and doubly reinforced rectangular concrete beams. Concrete and steel material costs are used as objective cost function to be minimized in this study, and ultimate flexural strength of the beam is considered to be as the main constraint. The ultimate limit state method with partial material strength factors and equivalent concrete stress block is used to derive general relations for flexural strength of RC beam and empirical coefficients are taken from topic 9 of the Iranian National Building Regulation (INBR9). Optimum designs are obtained by using the LMM and are presented in closed form solutions. Graphical representation of solutions are presented and it is shown that proposed design curves can be used for minimum cost design of the beams without prior knowledge of optimization and without the need for iterative trials. The applicability of the proposed relations and curves are demonstrated through two real life examples of SRB and DRB design situations and it is shown that the minimum cost design is actually reached using proposed method.

Numerical simulations of interactions between solitary waves and elastic seawalls on rubble mound breakwaters

  • Two dimensional numerical models and physical models have been developed to study the highly nonlinear interactions between waves and breakwaters, but several of these models consider the effects of the structural dynamic responses and the shape of the breakwater axis on the wave pressures. In this study, a multi-material Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) method is developed to simulate the nonlinear interactions between nonlinear waves and elastic seawalls on a coastal rubble mound breakwater, and is validated experimentally. In the experiment, a solitary wave is generated and used with a physical breakwater model. The wave impact is validated computationally using a breakwater - flume coupling model that replicates the physical model. The computational results, including those for the wave pressure and the water-on-deck, are in good agreement with the experimental results. A local breakwater model is used to discuss the effects of the structural dynamic response and different design parameters of the breakwater on wave loads, together with pressure distribution up the seawall. A large-scale breakwater model is used to numerically study the large-scale wave impact problem and the horizontal distribution of the wave pressures on the seawalls.

  • The BaTiO$_3$+10wt%Nb$_2$O$_{5}$ ceramics were prepared by conventional mixed oxide method. The structural and dielectric properties of the BaTiO$_3$+10wt%Nb$_2$O$_{5}$ ceramics with the sintering temperature were investigated. Increasing the sintering temperature, the 2$\theta$ value of BaTiO$_3$peaks were shifted to the higher degree and intensity of the BaTiO$_3$and BaNbO$_3$peaks were increased. In the BaTiO$_3$+10wt%Nb$_2$O$_{5}$ ceramics sintered at 135$0^{\circ}C$ and 1375$^{\circ}C$, the grain was fine and uniform. Increasing the sintering temperature, the pore was decreased and the dielectric constant was increased. In the BaTiO$_3$+10wt%Nb$_2$O$_{5}$ ceramics sintered at 1375$^{\circ}C$, the dielectric constant and dielectric loss were 5424, 0.02 respectively.ctively.

  • The (Ba$_{0.3}$Bi$_{0.3}$Sr$_{0.4}$)TiO$_3$[BBST] ceramics were prepared by conventional mixed oxide method. The structural properties of the BBST ceramics with sintering temperature were investigated by XRD, SEM, EDS. In the case of BBST ceramics sintered at 1150~135$0^{\circ}C$, the $Ba_{0.5}$Sr$_{0.5}$TiO$_3$and SrBi$_4$Ti$_4$O$_{15}$ phase were coexisted. The 2$\theta$ value of the BST (110) peaks were shifted to the lower degree at the sintering temperature of 130$0^{\circ}C$ and 135$0^{\circ}C$. The grains of the BBST ceramics sintered at 130$0^{\circ}C$ and 135$0^{\circ}C$ were not appeared. Increasing the sintering temperature, the densities of the BBST ceramics were increased. In the BBST ceramics sintered at 130$0^{\circ}C$ and 135$0^{\circ}C$, the mole ratio of Bi was decreased.d.ed.d.d.d.

태양전지용 CdS 박막의 구조적, 광학적 물성에 미치는 스퍼터 전력 효과 (Influence of Sputter Power on the Structural and Optical Properties of CdS Films for Photovoltaic Applications)

  • CdS films have been prepared on polycarbonate, polyethylene terephthalate, and Coming 7059 substrates by r.f magnetron sputtering technique at room temperature. A comparison of the properties of the films deposited on polymer and glass substrates was performed. In addition, the influence of the sputter power on the structural and optical properties of these films was evaluated. The XRD measurements revealed that CdS films were polycrystalline and retained the mixed structure of hexagonal wurtzite and cubic phase, regardless of substrate types. As the sputter power was increased from 75 to 150 Watt, the structure of CdS films was converted from the mixed of hexagonal and cubic phase to hexagonal phase. The morphology of CdS films is found to be continuous and dense. Also, the grain of CdS films is larger with increasing the sputter power. The average transmittance exceeded 80 % in the visible spectrum for all films and decreases slightly with the sputter power.

  • In this study, the electrical properties were investigated for the deposited Ba,Sr)(Nb,Ti)$O_3$[BSNT] thin films grown on $Pt/TiO_2/SiO_2/Si$ substrate by RF sputtering method. The structural properties of the BSNT thin films affected by the $Ar/O_2$ rates were investigated. In the case of the BSNT thin films deposited with condition of 60/40$(Ar/O_2)$ ratio, the $BaTiO_3$, $SrTiO_3$ and $BaNbO_3$ phases were showed. The composition ratio of Nb and Ti in the BSNT thin films were nearly equivalent. Also, in the BSNT thin films deposited with condition of 60/40 and 80/20$(Ar/O_2)$ ratios, the composition of Ba, Sr, Nb and Ti were relatively uniform. The Ba, Sr, Nb and Ti in the BSTN thin films were not diffused into the Pt layer.

Fatigue damage monitoring and evolution for basalt fiber reinforced polymer materials

  • A newly developed method based on energy is presented to study the damage pattern of FRP material. Basalt fiber reinforced polymer (BFRP) is employed to monitor the damage under fatigue loading. In this study, acoustic emission technique (AE) combined with scanning electronic microscope (SEM) technique is employed to monitor the damage evolution of the BFRP specimen in an approximate continuous scanning way. The AE signals are analyzed based on the wavelet transform, and the analyses are confirmed by SEM images. Several damage patterns of BFRP material, such as matrix cracking, delamination, fiber fracture and their combinations, are identified through the experiment. According to the results, the cumulative energy (obtained from wavelet coefficients) of various damage patterns are closely related to the damage evolution of the BFRP specimens during the entire fatigue tests. It has been found that the proposed technique can effectively distinguish different damage patterns of FRP materials and describe the fatigue damage evolution.

  • 이 연구의 목적은 단조하중과 반복하중을 받는 철근콘크리트 면부재 해석에 대한 이방향성 회전 직교축 모델의 성능을 검토하기 위함이다. 여기서 다루는 구조부재는 철근에 의하여 적절히 보강된 보, 기둥, 보-기둥 접합부, 그리고 전단벽등으로 부재의 파괴가 인장균열후 압축파괴에 의하여 일어나는 부재이다. 보통 단조하중에 대하여 사용도는 이방향성 회전 직교축 모델을 반복하중에 대하여 확장하며, 철근과 부착의 기존 재료모델과 함꼐 유한요소해석에 사용한다. 단조하중에 대하여 이방향성 회전 직교축 모델을 사용한 해석 결과는 취성파괴를 나타내는 철근콘크리트보의 실험결과와 비교된다. 또한 반복하중을 받는 전단벽의 극한하중, 비선형 변형, 핀칭 현상 등에 대하여 실험결과와 비교된다.

  • 본 논문은 풍동실험과 정적하중 실험을 실시하여 강풍 설계시 대공간 구조물의 막구조 동적응답을 확인하여 거스트 계수(gust factor)를 산출해 보고자한다. 이를 위해 섬유재료의 변형률에 따라 하중을 구할 수 있는 막재료 성능실험과 4가지(saddle형, wave형, arch형, point형) 막구조 모형에 따른 횡방향 동적하중과 동적변형응답을 측정할 수 있는 풍동실험, 동적변형응답에 따라 정적하중을 구할 수 있는 정적하중실험을 실시함으로써 거스트 계수(gust factor)를 산출하였다.

화재이력에 따른 터널구조물 시공재료의 화재손상 평가 (Assessment of Fire-induced Damage to Tunnel Structural Members at Different Fire Scenarios)

  • In this study, a series of fire tests was carried out to evaluate fire-induced damage to structural members in tunnels. From the tests, the loss amount of concrete materials by the RWS fire scenario was slightly bigger than by the RABT fire scenario. Especially under the RWS fire scenario where the maximum temperature is over 1,200, the loss of concrete materials was mainly induced by melting. Generally, the loss of materials in reinforced concrete was slightly smaller than that in unreinforced concrete. Depending upon an applied fire scenario, fire-induced damage to shotcrete was quite different. From the real-time investigation of a specimen surface by a digital camcorder, it was proved that the material loss under the RABT fire scenario was mainly induced by spalling. However, it was also revealed that although fire-induced damage in the initial heating stage under the RWS was so close to that under the RABT, the material loss under the RWS at the later stage after 50 minutes elapsed since fire initiation was induced not by spalling but by melting.
