Bicycle is one of convenient transportation system. In this paper, we derive a more precise kinematics of bicycle system compared with other ones which were suggested by other researchers. In the derivation of kinematics we adopted a physical concept called virtual wheel. We also propose an algorithm for deriving inverse kinematics of a bicycle system. In this paper, the meaning of inverse kinematics is to find the time functions of steering angle and driving wheel speed for a given desired path trajectory. From the computer simulation, we show the validity of our proposed algorithm for inverse kinematics of bicycle system.
This paper presents an NVH test of Automotive power steering system performed at a half-car Test-rig. The test was done for neutral and full turn(or relief) conditions in steering wheel at a fixed rpm first, then followed by the same conditions for the rpm run-up. The sound intensity measurement verified the results from the frequency and order analysis, especially about the identification of major noise sources and their dominant frequencies. The results from thie study can be utilized in the system noise tuning when a new steering component is installed. In particular, the noise and vibration reduction at the relief condition will be accomplished through the knowledge obtained from this study and from the on-going research on the hose tuning techniques usign silencers and tuning cable inserted in the pressure hose.
The goal of this paper is to minimize the weight of the T-structure supporting steering system in reducing the vibration level on steering wheel which could be amplified by the resonance. Presently, requirements for reducing noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) in automotive area are more stringent than ever. One of them is the vibration of steering system which occurs sometimes at high speeds or when the engine is idling. Besides, the reduction of weight is also one of requirements for improvement of vehicle performance. This paper used the micro genetic algorithm as an optimization method to satisfy above two requirements. The whole T-structure assembly including steering column was used for frequency analysis.
A Steer-by-Wire system has so many advantages comparing with conventional mechanical steering system that it is expected to take key role in future environment friendly vehicle and intelligent transportation system. The mechanical connection between the hand wheel and the front axle will become obsolete. SBW system provides many benefits in terms of functionality, and at the same time present significant challenges - fault tolerant, fail safety - too. In this paper, failure analysis of SBW system will be performed and than sensor fusion technique will be proposed for fail safety of SBW system. A sensor fusion logic of steering angle sensor by using steering angle sensor, torque sensor and rack position sensor will be developed and simulated by fault injection simulation.
A combination steering system was designed to provide the flexibility in controlling the steering wheel in fishing operations of the inshore and coastal fishing vessels. The designed steering system basically is consisted of three driving units, such as a electrically driven hydraulic pump unit with a solenoid control valve, a DC motor driven hydraulic pump unit and a manually driven hydraulic pump unit, and two controllers to provide remote steering on the deck, respectively. The steering torque was measured and analyzed to investigate the dynamic performance of the developed steering system. The steering system showed excellent linearity between the working pressure of cylinder and the torque of rudder post in case of increasing in rudder angle from $5^{\circ} to 35^{\circ}$ that is, the steering torque increased from $10.4 kgf{\cdot}m$ to $105.3 kgf{\cdot}m$ and then the working pressure of cylinder fluctuated from 6.3 kgf/cm super(2) to 16.4 kgf/cm super(2). The steering time of 3.2 sec in remote hydraulic steering by the on/off solenoid valve control was much faster than 13.2 sec in the manual steering by the helmsman and 11.6 sec in the electric steering by a DC motor, and then it was verified that operation of one unit does not affect other units in combination steering system in any way. Furthermore, the developed steering system can be remotely controlled in multiple stations of the deck during the fishing operation and the automatic pilot steering unit can be used to add hydraulic steering.
This paper presents a three dimensional modeling and simulations of operation and running of a wheel loader using the ADAMS program. A wheel loader consists of a bucket, a boom, a crank, a front frame, a rear frame, a bucket cylinder, two boom cylinders, two steering cylinders, nine spherical joints, six universal joints, five translation joints, three inline joints, a revolute and a fixed joint. Judging from the actual degrees of freedom of the wheel loader, proper kinematic joints are selected to exclude redundant constraints in the modeling. Through the running simulation over a bump with the three dimensional modeling, the joint reaction forces are calculated.
In this paper, we identify the isotropic configurations of an omnidirectional mobile robot with three caster wheels, depending on the selection of actuated joints. First, We obtain the kinematic model of a caster wheeled omnidirectional mobile robot(COMR) without matrix inversion. For a given task velocity, the instantaneous motion of each wheel is decomposed into two orthogonal instantaneous motions of the steering and the rotating joints. Second, with the characteristic length introduced, we derive the isotropy conditions of a COMR having $n({\ge}3)$ actuated joints, which are imposed on two Jacobian matrices, $A{\in}R^{n{\times}3}$ and $B{\in}R^{6{\times}6}$. Under the condition of $B{\propto}I_6$, three caster wheels should have identical structure with the length of the steering link equal to the radius of the wheel. Third, depending on the selection of actuated joints, we derive the conditions for $A^t$$A{\propto}I_3$ and identify the isotropic configurations of a COMR. All possible actuation sets with different number of actuated joints and different combination of rotating and steering joins are considered.
In this research, an effective technique was examined to improve the drift running performance. Concretely, the driver model by which the counter steer was done was assumed to the model by which the vehicle body slip angle (and the vehicle body slip angle velocity) was feed back. Next, the effectiveness of the system which added the assist steer angle corresponding to the steering wheel angle velocity to a front wheel steer angle was clarified as a drift running performance improvement technique of the vehicle. As a result, because the phase advances when the differentiation steer assistance is added, it has been understood to be able to cover the delay of the counter steer when the drift running. Therefore, it has been understood that the drift control does considerably easily. Moreover, it has been understood that the differentiation steer assistance acts effectively at the drift cornering by which the drift angle is maintained in cornering and the severe lane change with a drift at a situation. That is, it was understood to be able to settle to the drift angle of the aim quickly at the time of the drift cornering because the delay of the control steer angle of the counter steer was improved. Moreover, it was understood for the transient overshoot of the vehicle tracks to be able to decrease, and to return to the state of stability quickly at the severe lane change.
