This study conducted a comprehensive survey on the status of R&D manpower and facilities in nanotechnology in Korea by interviewing R&D leaders from major research institutes nationwide. Present and future demand and supply for nanotech manpower and its policy were analyzed according to research organizations and research fields. And also nanotech-related equipment and facilities were analyzed. This study gives some useful suggestions for policy making of nanotech manpower and facilities.

A preliminary study was conducted to introduce the concept of asset management in developing maintenance strategies for public facilities. A survey was carried out to analyze public institutions' maintenance status, thereby leading to an asset management system. The survey identified the maintenance priorities for the asset management system, evaluated the weight factor in selecting facilities, and analyzed the current maintenance system. The purpose of the study is to assess the system transitioning to asset management systems considering the life cycle of the facilities from safety management-oriented maintenance policies. As a consequence of the survey results, the study presents data for establishing an asset management system.

Community facilities in apartment complex have been developed through residents' needs for housing environmental amenities and social trend for 'Well-being' combined with marketing competition among construction companies. But community facilities and fitness centers which are in the initial stage of development are not well fit with residents' needs because the designers plan the community facilities without considering on residents' life-style and preference. This study investigates the present status of fitness center, and surveys the residents' preference for the proposed fitness center design. The result includes that fitness center users in apartment complex want a convenient and comfortable resting spaces similar level with those in fitness center of mixed-use residential building. A resting space provides opportunity that community members meet each other as well as they can rest after exercise. The result also shows that the fitness center users prefer wood floor and wall as interior finishing materials in exercising space and resting space, which users think, gives more comfortable and splendid feeling.

With introduction of amended educational curriculum in 2007, optimizing project of educational environment to accomplish its purposes and goals includes expanding educational facilities and supplying eco-friendly school facilities. However, while the focus of optimizing project of educational environment is quality improvement of educational facilities, aging of these facilities built at th times of quantitative expansion and its management become serious problems. Higher concerns on studies and jobs on management of building caused by serious aging of facilities, management cost of building becomes a very crucial issue. Therefore, this study aims to analyze environment improvement budget of school facilities through building and using data warehouse, by investigating and analyzing the current status of environment improvement budget of school facilities and its cost through questionnaire and interview surveys on officers who are in charge of environment improvement budget of school facilities in educational administrations. This study thus analyzed environment improving budget of school facilities by using data warehouse technology collecting related data to the topic and setting levels by region, school class, establishment year, school facility types and others.

This study includes the fundamental planning of the sectoral management technology in energy distribution system so that the industry itself would be willing to participate for the effective energy conservation in its own sector. Furthermore guidlines for the effective energy management techniques have been presented by first analyzing the energy consumption structures, the energy loss problems, the energy conservation status and the technology demands, and second classifying, according to the energy distribution system, the energy source management, the energy generation & conversion facilities, the energy transportation ＆ storage facilities, the energy consumming facilities and the waste energy management, etc. in the industrial sector.

Purpose: This study aims to analyze and supplement the standards related to healthcare facilities, negative pressure isolation wards, and emergency treatment facilities. In addition, through environmental investigations, analysis of emergency remodeling cases centered on the structural and HVAC characteristics of healthcare facilities is conducted. Methods: Domestic and foreign standards related to healthcare facilities were analyzed. Field investigations and architectural drawing analysis of general and emergency treatment facilities were conducted. Results: Healthcare facilities have different space classifications and air conditioning methods depending on the site situation. Emergency treatment facilities are classified into cases where the HVAC system is remodeled and portable negative pressure unit is installed, and some facilities did not meet the standards for differential pressure and air change rate. Implications: When developing emergency remodeling technology, remodeling and safety evaluation guidelines, it is considered possible to propose clearer guidelines for emergency remodeling treatment facilities for infectious diseases in Korea by referring to the results of this study.

To design common facilities that support residents' leisure activities is one of the comtemporary issues in Korea. People became interested in the leisure facilities in near-home environments. This trend encouraged this research study. The objectives of this study are: to analyze the current status and characteristics of leisure facilities in apartment communities, to examine the correlations among leisure facilities, and to suggest design considerations for Korean multi-family housing communities. Subject communities are located in the five metropolitan areas in the United States. The 460 apartment communities were randomly selected after a thorough review of a website for apartment finders. Among them, the 126 communities were selected for the analysis. Primary findings are as follows: (1) A total of 30 facilities were identified as the creational facilities in apartment properties. (2) Some leisure facilities were correlated with the other facilities, based on the Pearson's correlation analysis.(3) In addition to the facilities, some apartment communities provide leisure programs for their residents. These results suggest that architectural interventions and maintenance services as well should be considered in order to lead diverse leisure activities for residents.

The main goal of this study is to examine the current status of architectural glass in terms of its risk for inflicting injury in elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools. Through objective analysis of data contributed by the investigation of the cause, degree of seriousness, and bodily location of injury, the hazardousness of architectural glass in educational facilities will be evaluated. Most importantly, this study is an attempt to increase awareness of the need for establishing a safety standard in the installation of safety glass in order to prevent injuries inflicted by architectural glass in educational facilities.

This study aims to discuss the location characteristics and present distribution of facilities in the rural community. The purpose of this study is to suggest the basic data of the planning of facilities corresponding to the living sphere in community. The circumstances, location and distribution of the rural area facilities was analyzed through field investigation and interview. lt is necessary for ameliorating the income of inhabitants and the status of living environment to make a general local plan in developing rural area. That will be a solution to tackle the decreasement of population in the rural area. The survey's result is observed different by the feature of rural area, adjacence with near rural center, scale of rural center. So a standard of the various facility's arrangement plan must be established, and it must be enlarged in rural area.

There is no compulsory administration on the facility status for silver medical welfare facilities under the current legal regulations based on the welfare law of the aged nor is there standardized space allotment conditions that considered the physical psychological and pathological characteristics of the aged. Hence, welfare facilities are presently being constructed under general architectural laws. (Ed- paragraphs combined here) Therefore, standardized space allotment conditions should be planned soon for the aged in welfare facilities. (Ed- paragraphs combined here) In this study we examined the situation of space allotment through both blueprint analysis and interview with building supervisors. However, in future studies, we will focus on space insufficiency situations and the needs of the aged residents in welfare facilities.
