In this paper, the seismic performance of reinforced concrete braced frames (RC-BF) under far- and near-fault motions was investigated. Four-, eight-, 12- and 16-story RC-BFs were designed on the basis of a code-design method for a high risk seismic zone. Nonlinear static and dynamic analyses of the frames have been performed using OpenSees software. To consider diverse characteristics of near-fault motions, records with forward-directivity and fling-step effects were employed. From the results obtained in the analytical study it is concluded that the used design method was reasonable and the mean maximum drift of the frames under all ground motion sets were in acceptable range. For intermediate- and high-rise buildings the near-fault motions imposed higher demands than far-faults.
In the past, we proposed an IDDQ testable design method for static CMOS PLA circuits. All bridging faults can be detected in NOR planes of our testable designed PLA circuits by IDDQ testing with 4 kinds of test input vectors which are independent of the logical functions to be realized. However, the testable designed PLA circuits consume large power in the normal operation. In this paper, a new IDDQ testable design method is proposed and evaluated by some experiments. The experimental results show that the PLA circuit designed with our method can work with low power consumption than the previous one.

A microgrid is defined as two or more distributed generation or storage assets configured in a networks and capable of operation in parallel or independently form a larger electric gird, while providing continuous power to one or more end users. And when microgrid are separated from grid oprating protection devices by faults of the grid side, microsources should charge electrical power needs of loads in microgrid and operate maintaining power quality. The magnitude of the switching transients will vary based on voltage phase difference between microgrid and grid, when the microgrid is resynchronized to grid. In this paper, when microgrid is resynchronized to grid, we analyzed the existing problems for reducing switching transients of SS(Static Switch).

The investigation on possible causes of failures related to documented collapses is a complicated issue, primarily due to the scarcity and inadequacy of information available. Although several studies have tried to understand which are the inherent structural deficiencies or circumstances associated to failure of the main structural elements in a reinforced concrete frame, to the authors knowledge a uniform approach for the evaluation building static vulnerability, does not exist yet. This paper investigates, by means of a detailed case study, the potential failure mechanisms of an existing reinforced concrete building. The linear elastic analysis for the three-dimensional building model gives an insight on the working conditions of the structural elements, demonstrating the relevance of a number of structural faults that could sensibly lower the structure's safety margin. Next, the building's bearing capacity is studied by means of parametric nonlinear analysis performed at the element's level. It is seen that, depending on material properties, concrete strength and steel yield stress, the failure hierarchy could be dominated by either brittle or ductile mechanisms.

In this paper, a new testable design technique for domino CMOS circuits is proposed to detect stuck-at(s-at), stuck-open(s-op) and stuck-on(s-on) faults in the circuits by observing logic test reponses. The proposed technique adds one pMOS transistor per domino CMOS gate for s-op and s-on faults testing of nMOS transistors and one nMOS transistors and one nMOS transistor per domino gate or multilevel circuit to detect s-on faults in pMOS transistors of inverters in the circuit. The extra transistors enable the proposed testable circuit to operate like a pseudo static nMOS circuit while testing nMOS transistors in domino CMOS circuits. Therefore, the two=phase operation of a precharge phase and a evaluation phase is not needed to keep the domino CMOS circuit from malfunctionong due to circuit delays in the test mode, which reduces the testing time and the complexity of test generation. Most faults of th transistors in the proposed testable domino CMOS circuit can be detected by single test patterns. The use of single test patterns makes the testing of the proposed testable domino CMOS circuit free from path delays, timing skews, chage sharing and glitches. In the proposed design, the testing of the faults which, require test sequences also becomes free from test invalidation. The conventional automatic test pattern generators(ATPG) can be used for generating test patterns to detect faults in the circuits.
Faults such as broken rotor bars, static and dynamic eccentricity are often reported in induction motors. These faults increase the down-time of equipment, which causes major loss of earnings to the industry. This paper presents a result of the finite-element(FE) analysis of air-gap flux variation in induction motors when rotor vibration conditions occur, An accurate modelling and analysis of rotor vibration in the machine are developed using FE software packages, and measuring the flux are made using the search coils. In the FE analysis, an induction motor with 380 [V], 5[HP], 4 Poles, 1742 [rpm] ratings is used. The results of FE analysis can be used for on-line vibration monitoring of the induction motors.

This paper proposes a coordinated control of the reactive power between the STATCOMs (static synchronous compensators) and the grid-side converters (GSC) of wind farms equipped with PMSGs (permanent-magnet synchronous generators), by which the voltage fluctuations at the PCC (point of common coupling) are mitigated in the steady state. In addition, the level of voltage sags is reduced during grid faults. To do this, the GSC and the STATCOM supply reactive power to the grid coordinately, where the GSCs are fully utilized to provide the reactive power for the grid prior to the STATCOM operation. For this, the GSC capability of delivering active and reactive power under variable wind speed conditions is analyzed in detail. In addition, the PCC voltage regulation of the power systems integrated with large wind farms are analyzed for short-term and long-term operations. With this coordinated control scheme, the low power capacity of STATCOMs can be used to achieve the low-voltage ride-through (LVRT) capability of the wind farms during grid faults. The effectiveness of the proposed strategy has been verified by PSCAD/EMTDC simulation results.
In this paper, a three-dimensional model for the dynamic analysis of a flywheel based on the finite element method is presented. The static structure analysis for the model provides stress and strain distribution cloud charts. The modal analysis provides the basis of dynamic analysis due to its ability to obtain the natural frequencies and the vibration-made vectors of the first 10 orders. The results show the main faults are attrition and cracks, while also indicating the locations and patterns of faults. The harmonic response simulation was performed to gain the vibration response of the flywheel under operation. In this paper, we present a Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT) algorithm for flywheel vibration analysis. The simulation indicated that the proposed flywheel vibration signal analysis method performs well, which means that the method can lay the foundation for the detection and diagnosis in a reactor main coolant pump.

Acoustic emission (AE) was originally developed for non-destructive testing of static structure, but over the year its application has been extended to health monitoring of rotating machines and bearings. It offers the advantage of earlier defect detection in comparison with monitoring bearing. This study was diagnosed low-speed machine which had a fault bearing for early detection by AE. And the artificial faults in a experimentation bearing was made for the bearing signals from difference speed and load were compared and analyzed by AE.
For the successful characterization of the fractured reservoir, it is inevitable to describe fracture properties more precisely. Although the deterministic features, of mega-trend faults can be relatively definite, the background features of minor fractures are not easily analysed in spite of the various data of these features. In this study, two different methods, statistical and fractal methods, are used to construct the minor fracture system over the entire field. After completing these tasks, with the identified deterministic features and background features, total fracture system for fractured reservoir is constructed and updated with the aid of dynamic data obtained from well test.
