  • To improve the reliability of control systems, certain robustness to plant uncertainties and disturbance inputs is required in terms of well founded mathematical basis. Robust control theory was set up and developed until now from this motivation. In this field, H$_2$or H\ulcorner norm performance measures are frequently used nowadays. Moreover a mixed H$_2$/H\ulcorner control problem is introduced to combine the merits of each measure since H$_2$control usually makes more sense for performance while H\ulcorner control is better for robustness to plant perturbations. However only some partial analytic solutions are developed to this problem under certain special cases at this time. In this paper, the mixed H$_2$/H\ulcorner control problem is considered. The analytic(or semi-analytic) solutions of (sub)optimal mixed H$_2$/H\ulcorner state-feedback controller are derived for the scalar plant case and the multivariable plant case, respectively. An illustrative example is given to compare the proposed analytic solution with the existing numerical one.

  • We present a state-space approach to make non-square linear systems strictly passive by using an input-dimensional parallel feedforward compensator. A necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of the parallel feedforward compensator is given by the static output feedback formulation, which enables to utilize linear matrix inequality. By modifying the structure of the compensator the additional technical assumption in the previous result [1] is removed. The effectiveness of the proposed method is illustrated by some numerical examples which can be stabilized by the proportional-derivative (PD) and proportional-derivative-integral (PID) control laws. The proposed control scheme can successfully replace the measurements of derivative terms in the control laws.

  • The Output feedback linear quadratic regulator control is applied to the design of active suspension system using 7 DOF full car model. The performance index reflects the vehicle vertical movement, pitch and roll motion, and minimization of suspension stroke displacements in the rattle space. The elements of gain matrix are approximately decoupled so that each suspension requires only local information to generate the control force. The simulation results indicates that the output feedback LQ controller is more effective than purely passive or full state feedback active LQ controllers in following the road profile at the low frequency range and suppressing the road disturbance at the high frequency ranges.

  • Recent researches on control theory enable nonlinear state feedback which is more closer to real system without approximation. To apply nonlinear control theories, all state variables should be measured or estimated. In this paper, a technique of designing nonlinear state observer for a particular class of nonlinear system is presented. The result is applied to an aircraft model to prove the convergency of observation error.

  • A flexible one-link robotic manipulator is modelled as a rotating cantilever beam with a hub and tip mass. An active control law is developed with consideration of the distributed flexibility of the arm. Equation of motion is derived by Hamilton's principle and, for modal control, represented as state variable form using Galerkin's mode summation method. Feedback coefficients are chosen to minimize the linear quadratic performance index(PI). To reconstruct the complete state vector from the measurements, an observer is proposed. In order to suppress vibration of the manipulator arm to desirable extent and to obtain accuracy of the positioning, weighting factor of input in PI is adjusted. Spillover effect due to the controller which controls several important modes is examined. Experiment is also performed to validate the theoretical analysis.

  • In general, most physical systems are complex, highly non-linearity, affected by disturbance, incomplete knowledge, and even interactive change with the operating points. To solve this problem, the research of modem control theory and controller is proceeding. Before appling the proposed controller to the real system, however, it needs an apparatus which can verify the proposed controller for being not damaged the plant. In this paper, therefore, a RCGA-based PI-type state feedback controller using reduced-order observer is implemented and applied to the seesaw system and a series of simulation are carried out to verify the effectiveness of the control system.

  • This paper discusses the problem of positive real control for uncertain 2-D linear discrete time singular Roesser models (2-D SRM) with time-invariant norm-bounded parameter uncertainty. The purpose of this study is to design a state feedback controller such that the resulting closed-loop system is acceptable, jump modes free and stable, and achieves the extended strictly positive realness for all admissible uncertainties. A version of positive real lemma for the 2-D SRM is given in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Based on the lemma, a sufficient condition for the solvability of the positive real control problem is derived in terms of bilinear matrix inequalities (BMIs) and an iterative procedure for solving the BMIs is proposed.

  • A robust input modification approach to the control of flexible joint robot is presented. In our previous study, we developed an observer based state feedback control for the suppression of residual vibration of a robot. The control was very effective in suppressing the inherent vibration of a flexible joint robot. However it did not meet high performance requirements under high speed motion and model uncertainties. As a solution of the problem, we present an input modification method with robustness against parametric uncertainties. The main idea of the proposed input modification method is to generate a modified reference position command for fast and accurate motion of the robot. Using this proposed method we can reduce the servo delay and settling time by about 60% and substantially improve the path accuracy.

  • In this paper we design $H_{\infty}$ infinity controller for Induction motor with low speed operation. $H_{\infty}$ controller is applied in order to design a state feedback static controller for field oriented control of an induction motor. $H_{\infty}$ controller are linear plant can be set up using the same assumptions that are at the basis of field oriented control. Thus, $H_{\infty}$ control theory can be successfully used to set up a state feedback controller for field oriented control of an induction motor. The performances of the $H_{\infty}$ controller is numerically analysed and experimentally verified to prove the validity of the design procedure. In this paper show that performances with high robustness to variations of system parameter.

  • This paper presents a HGA-based(hybrid genetic algorithm) optimal control strategy to control of the swing motion and the transfer of the overhead crane. The objective is to achieve the regulation of the fast swing motion or fast position control. The controller is based on the state feedback. The HGA-based optimal algorithm is applied to find optimal gains of the controller. Computer simulation and experiments were performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.
