Oblique angle deposition (OAD) is a physical vapor deposition method which utilizes non-normal angles between the substrate and the vaporizing source. It has been known that tilting the substrate changes the properties of the film deposited on it, which was thought to be a result of morphological change of the film. In this study, OAD has been applied to prepare single and multilayer Al films by magnetron sputtering. The magnetron sputtering source of 4 inch diameter was used to deposit the films. Al films have been deposited on Si wafers and cold-rolled steel sheets. The multilayer films were prepared by changing the tilting angle upside down at each layer interval, which means that when the first layer was deposited at an angle of $+45^{\circ}$, the second layer was deposited at an angle of $-45^{\circ}$, and vice versa. The microstructure, surface roughness and reflectance of the films were investigated using a scanning electron microscope, a surface profiler and a spectrophotometer, respectively. The corrosion resistance was measured and compared using the salt spray test. The single layer film prepared at an oblique angle of $60^{\circ}$ prepared at other angles. However, for the multilayer films, the film prepared at an oblique angle of $45^{\circ}$ showed the most compact and featureless structure. The multilayer films were found to exhibit higher corrosion resistance than the single layer films.

Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) methods are conventional analytical methods to analyze water quality. Both of these methods are technically indirect measurement methods, require complicated preconditions, and are time-consuming. On the other hand, the total organic carbon (TOC) method is a direct and fast measurement method which is more intuitive and accurate than the BOD and COD methods. However, general TOC analysis methods involve complicated processes and high power consumption owing to the process of phase transition from liquid to gas by a high-temperature heater. Furthermore, periodic consumables are also required for the removal of inorganic carbon (IC). Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is one of the most suitable photocatalysts for simple processes. Its usage involves low power consumption because it only reacts with the organic carbon (OC) without the requirement of any other reagents and extra processes. We investigated a TiO2 photocatalyst-based TOC analysis for simple and affordable products. TiO2-coated fiber substrate maintained under carbon included water was exposed to ultraviolet (UV) radiation of wavelength 365 nm. This method is suitable for the real-time monitoring of water pollution because of its fast reaction time. Its linear property is also sufficient to match the real value.

In this paper, we compared the electric field and absorptance of nano particles in nanostructures by amplifying the electric field around the nanoparticles through plasmon resonance and comparing the structure that can increase the absorptance with the nanostructure by using the Finite Different Time Domain (FDTD) simulation. In addition, the width of the nanostructure was adjusted to 240 nm ~ 300 nm, and the light absorptance rate was higher as the gap between the particles was short. In addition, a study was conducted on the formation of nanoparticles and nanostructures on the surface through UV imprint. In order to form particles in the structure, the nano particles were first arranged in the mold used for the fabrication of the structure using spray coating, and then fabricated through UV imprinting. The nanostructure and particles were formed together by scanning electron microscopy.
Objective: We aimed to evaluate the cell viability and antimicrobial effects of orthodontic bands coated with silver or zinc oxide nanoparticles (nano-Ag and nano-ZnO, respectively). Methods: In this experimental study, 30 orthodontic bands were divided into three groups (n = 10 each): control (uncoated band), Ag (silver-coated band), and ZnO (zinc oxide-coated band). The electrostatic spray-assisted vapor deposition method was used to coat orthodontic bands with nano-Ag or nano-ZnO. The biofilm inhibition test was used to assess the antimicrobial effectiveness of nano-Ag and nano-ZnO against Streptococcus mutans, Lactobacillus acidophilus, and Candida albicans. Biocompatibility tests were conducted using the 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay. The groups were compared using oneway analysis of variance with a post-hoc test. Results: The Ag group showed a significantly higher reduction in the number of L. acidophilus, C. albicans, and S. mutans colonies than the ZnO group (p = 0.015, 0.003, and 0.005, respectively). Compared with the control group, the Ag group showed a 2-log10 reduction in all the microorganisms' replication ability, but only S. mutants showed a 2-log10 reduction in replication ability in the ZnO group. The lowest mean cell viability was observed in the Ag group, but the difference between the groups was insignificant (p > 0.05). Conclusions: Coating orthodontic bands with nano-ZnO or nano-Ag induced antimicrobial effects against oral pathogens. Among the nanoparticles, nano-Ag showed the best antimicrobial activity and nano-ZnO showed the highest biocompatibility.
Transition metal chalcogenides are promising cathode materials for next-generation battery systems, particularly sodium-ion batteries. Ni3Co6S8-pitch-derived carbon composite microspheres with a yolk-shell structure (Ni3Co6S8@C-YS) were synthesized through a three-step process: spray pyrolysis, pitch coating, and post-heat treatment process. Ni3Co6S8@C-YS exhibited an impressive reversible capacity of 525.2 mA h g-1 at a current density of 0.5 A g-1 over 50 cycles when employed as an anode material for sodium-ion batteries. However, Ni3Co6S8 yolk shell nanopowder (Ni3Co6S8-YS) without pitch-derived carbon demonstrated a continuous decrease in capacity during charging and discharging. The superior sodium-ion storage properties of Ni3Co6S8@C-YS were attributed to the pitch-derived carbon, which effectively adjusted the size and distribution of nanocrystals. The carbon-coated yolk-shell microspheres proposed here hold potential for various metal chalcogenide compounds and can be applied to various fields, including the energy storage field.

In order to improve the physical properties on moisture sorption of spray dried red ginseng extract powder (SD-RGEP), the various additives and coating agents were treated, and solubility, sedimentation rate and storage stability of RGEPs treated were investigated. For the moisture-proofing, additive itself was effective in the order casein>dextrin>starch>avicell, but RGEPs treated with additives were effective in the order cord oil+tween-40>starch>casein. But there was no significant difference between RGEP treated less than 1% additive and the moisture-proofing. The coating effect of AEA and CAP on RGEP could not be recognized for the moisture-proofing, whereas that of HPC, corn oil, lecithin and HPC+corn oil was proved to be very effective for the moisture-proofing of RGEP. Also it is required to control the initial moisture content of RGEP. The sedimentation rate of RGEP nontreated was 65.1 seconds, whereas that of RGEPs coated with 1% HPC, 1% corn oil, 1% lecithin and 1% HPC+0.5% corn oil was in the range of 96.2 to 114.3 seconds. The sedimentation rate of RGEPs coated was 1.5 to 1.8 times higher than that of RGEP nontreated, and there was significant difference between solubility and sedimentation rate. Therefore it was no matter for the keeping quality. The sorption rates of RGEPs coated with lecithin $(0.5{\sim}1.0%$), corn oil(0.8%) and cellulose acetate (0.8%) were ranged 54 to 56%, 51 to 55% and 52 to 54%, respectively, and it is found that the moisture-proofing effect of RGEPs coated was about 2 times higher than that of RGEP nontreated. From the result of storage experiment during 3 months under the maltreated condition of $48{\pm}2^{\circ}C$, 75% RH, the moisture sorption of RGEPs coated with corn oil$(0.5{\sim}1.0%$), cellulose acetate(DES, $0.5{\sim}0.8%$) and lecithin (DES, 1.0%) was not at all observed. Therefore it is considered that the circulating period of RGEPs coated with these coating agents could to give more than 3 years.
A Crofer 22 APU mesh coated with a conductive ceramic material was developed as an alternative cathode current collector to Ag-based materials for solid oxide fuel cells. $(La_{0.80}Sr_{0.20})_{0.98}MnO_3$ (LSM) layer was deposited onto the Crofer mesh using a spray-coating technique, in an attempt to mitigate the degradation of electrical properties due to surface oxidation at high temperatures. The oxidation experiments at $800^{\circ}C$ in air indicated that the areaspecific resistance (ASR) of the LSM-coated Crofer mesh was strongly dependent on the wire diameter and the contact morphology between mesh and cell. In addition, the post-heat-treatment in $H_2/N_2$ resulted in a reduced thickness of Cr-containing oxide scales at the interface between Crofer mesh and LSM layer, leading to a decreased ASR.
The present investigation provides an electromagnetic radiation absorptive composition which comprises silver-coated ferrite microspheres dispersed in silicon rubber matrix for the aim of thin microwave absorber in GHz frequencies. Ni-Zn ferrite spheres with $50{\mu}m$ size in average were prepared by spray-drying and sintering at $1130^{\circ}C$. Conductive silver layer was plated on ferrite spheres by electroless plating. Conductive Ni-Zn ferrite sphere with uniform silver layer were obtained in the concentration of 10 g/L $AgNO_3$ per 20 g ferrite spheres. For this powder, electrical resistance is reduced as low as $10^{-2}\~10^{-3}\;\Omega$. The most sensitive material parameters with silver plating is real and imaginary parts of complex permittivity. The conductive Ni-Zn ferrite spheres have large values of dielectric constant. Due to this high dielectric constant of microspheres, matching thickness is reduced to as low as 2 mm at the frequency of 7 GHz, which is much thinner than conventional ferrite absorbers.
The application of sprayed waterproofing membrane with high adhesion and ductility is considered to be promising as a measure for repair and reinforcement of a tunnel structure. Therefore, a powder-type and one-component membrane prototype with high tensile and bond strengths was made in this study. Then, its reinforcement effect on a shield segment was evaluated by carrying out a series of full-scale loading tests of segment specimens on which the membrane was sprayed. From the tests, it was confirmed that the initial cracking loads increased by approximately 34% due to cracking retardation by membrane coating. Even though the increase of failure loads were not so high as cracking loads, the strain-softening behaviors were observed from specimens coated by the membrane. Therefore, it is expected that the membrane coated on the inner surface of a lining might be effective in preventing its brittle failure.
We investigated the improvement of surface roughness and states after high temperature annealing using reduced-graphene oxide (r-GO) capping layer on ion-implanted 4H-SiC epitaxial layer. The specification of the 4H-SiC wafer grown on n-type $4^{\circ}$ off-axis 4H-SiC was $10{\mu}m$-thick and n-type epitaxial layer with a dose of $1.73{\times}10^{15}cm^{-2}$. The $n^+$ region were formed by multiple nitrogen ion-implantations and r-GO capping layer was produced by spray coating method. AFM measurements revealed that RMS value of the sample capped with r-GO was tenfold decrease compared to the sample without r-GO capping. The improvement of surface states was also verified by the improvement of leakage current level.
