A Study on the Leader's Super-leadership, Self-leadership, Psychological Empowerment, Sport Commitment and Performance Perceived by Taekwondo Athletes

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the research model and identify the causal relationship among leader's super leadership, self-leadership, psychological empowerment, sport commitment and performance perceived by Taekwondo athletes. The subjects of the study were middle and high school Taekwondo athletes registered in the Korea Taekwondo Association in 2020 and 2021, and data from 454 people were used as final effective samples through convenience sampling. The collected data used the SPSS 23.0 version and the Amos 21.0 version to verify the hypothesis. As a result, the following conclusions were obtained. First, we discovered that the leader's super leadership had a positive impact on the athlete's self-leadership, psychological empowerment, and sport commitment. Second, we found that the athlete's self-leadership had a positive effect on psychological empowerment, sport commitment, and performance. Third, we found that athlete's psychological empowerment had a positive effect on sport commitment and performance. Fourth, we found that the athlete's sport commitment had a negative effect on performance. Therefore, this study has reminded us about importance of psychological empowerment and sport commitment for explaining the relationship between leadership type and performance perceived by Taekwondo athletes, and might contribute to the theoretical discussion of variables related to athletes' performance.

Exploring the Nature of Volunteer and Leadership and Its Implications for Sport Management

  • Purpose: This study examines the role of leaders of sport organizations from the perspectives of rank-and-file volunteers. Specifically, the study explores which factors are important in leading volunteers and how rank-and-filers interact with their leaders. Research design, data, and methodology: This study reviews a comprehensive literature on volunteer and leadership theories which are trait theory, behavior theory, and contingency theory. Given the comprehension of prior structure of knowledge on leadership, the study provides a structure of knowledge on volunteer and leadership in sport context and discusses managerial implications for leaders in sport organization. Results: With an exploration of sport leadership, this study proposes a volunteer classification model which presents four-volunteer types: professional volunteer, company volunteer, general volunteer, and school volunteer. Furthermore, this study discussed managerial implications for sport organization leaders. Conclusions: Paid employees may be prepared to accept a job and its requirements mainly due to economic benefits. Volunteers, however, do not pursue economic benefits through their activity. Different types of motivation between paid employees and volunteers bring to surface how a leader influences volunteer effectively. A conceptual volunteer clarification model could be examined in real world situations. Insights for future studies were discussed.

The Impact of Coach Leadership Type on Exercise of College Athletes

  • Purpose: Prior literature posits that leadership of coach influences athletes' performance via delegate interactions. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the type of instructor on the exercise stress of university athletes and to provide instructors with informative coaching methods especially for their leadership. Research design, data, and methodology: In order to achieve the purpose of the research, Seoul and Gyeonggi Province Materials University athletes were selected as a sample, 360 college athletes participated in the survey and data were screened and finally 314 were analyzed. The collected data were analyzed via descriptive analysis and multiple regressions. To examine the validity and reliability of the survey items, factor analysis and Cronbach's α were computed. Results: Coaches' leadership types are found to influence university athletes' exercise stress significantly. In specific, transformational leadership negatively influences teaching Complaints. Transformational leadership also negatively influences time constraints. However, transformational and transactional leadership do not have any effect on career concerns. transformational and transactional leadership also do not influence functional instability of college athletes. Conclusions: Overall, leadership types of coach partially influence exercise stress of athletes. These findings posit that transformational leadership contribute in developing reliable relationship between athletes and instructors. Further implications were discussed.

  • This study aims to find out how the leadership type of middle school soccer coach affects sport flow and team atmosphere, and the results are as follows. First, as a result of analyzing the demographic characteristics, it was found that there was a significant difference in the peer relationship characteristics of the team atmosphere by the variable of age, and the mutual leadership by the variable of life period with coach. Second, as a result of examining the influence of middle school soccer coach's leadership type on sport flow, it was found that among leadership types, servant leadership affected all sub-factors of sport flow and transformational leadership affected behavioral flow. Third, as a result of examining the effect of middle school soccer coach's leadership type on team atmosphere, it was found that all leadership types had an effect on the role characteristics, which are the sub-factors of team atmosphere, servant leadership on the peer relationship characteristics, and transactional leadership on the team characteristics.

Structural relationships among achievement goal orientation, self-leadership and sport motivation of skating athletes (빙상선수의 성취목표성향과 셀프리더십 및 스포츠 동기의 구조적 관계)

  • This study was to verify the structural relationships among achievement goal orientation, self-leadership and sport motivation of skating athletes. The data were collected out of skating athletes in Seoul and Gyonggi area, and total 369 copies of data were utilized in this study. To verify the relationships among achievement goal orientation, self-leadership and sport motivation, the construct validity and reliability for each factor were analyzed using SPSS18.0 and AMOS18.0 program. And the relationships among three factors were analyzed using covariance structural analysis. The results were as follows. First, the achievement goal orientation of skating athletes had positive effects on self-leadership. Second, the achievement goal orientation of skating athletes had positive effects on sport motivation. Third, the self-leadership of skating athletes had positive effects on sport motivation.

The Structural Relationship Among Self-Leadership, Self-Management, and Sport Confidence of Golf Players (골프선수의 셀프리더십과 자기관리 및 스포츠자신감의 구조적관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the structural relationships among self-leadership, self-management, and self-confidence of golf players. In order to accomplish the purpose of this study, 447 of them were sampled through the convenience sampling. The instruments for data collection were Self-Leadership Questionnaire, Self-Management Scale1, and Sport Confidence Questionnaire. Collected data were put to exploratory factor analysis and correlation analysis, using the SPSS 18.0 program and to confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation model(SEM), using the AMOS 18.0 program. The results were as follows : First, self-leadership had positive effects on self-management, Second self-leadership had positive effects on sport confidence, Third, self-management had positive effects on sport confidence, Forth, the unstandardized path coefficient among self-leadership, self-management and sport confidence in the men was no different from that in the women.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the leadership style and performance of university athletes' leaders. Research design, data, and methodology: This study utilizes survey items constructed by reserach variables. Data were collected from college athletes of universities in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, where sports teams are located. A convenient sampling method was used of non-probability sampling methods. A total of 314 responses were computed at statistic program, spss version 21.0. In specific, the study employed correlation, exploary factor analysis, mulple-regressions to test the effects of ledership types on performance. Results: As a result of an empirical analysis to examine the relationship between the leader's leader-ship style and the athletic performance of college athletes, it was found that the leader's leadership style had a significant effect on the college athletes' performance. Conclusions: A leader's leadership style is a very important factor for college athletes who enter the professional world after graduating from college. Therefore, coaches maintain a horizontal relationship with the players rather than a vertical one, and if a leadership style suitable for the players is applied, the players' performance will be better, and the development potential of players and teams will increase. Suggestions for future studies were discussed.

Structural relationship among servant leadership, empowerment and sports satisfaction of badminton coaches (배드민턴 지도자의 서번트 리더십과 임파워먼트 및 운동만족의 구조관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to verify the relationship among servant leadership, empowerment and sports satisfaction of badminton coaches by self-leadership. Among national badminton players, total 343 copies of data were collected and used at the study by using of random sampling. The normal distribution on data and the validity and reliability for each factors were proven to confirm through descriptive statistics, exploratory & confirmatory factor analysis and reliability analysis with SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 18.0 program. The relationship among each factors by the purpose of study were analyzed by correlation analysis and structural model analysis. The results were as follows. First, the servant leadership of badminton coaches had positive effect on empowerment. Second, the servant leadership of badminton coaches had positive effect on self-leadership. Third, the servant leadership of badminton coaches had positive effect on sports satisfaction. Fourth, empowerment had positive effect on sports satisfaction. Fifth, self-leadership had positive effect on sports satisfaction. Sixth, for the relationship between servant leadership and sports satisfaction, empowerment and self-leadership had indirect effects.

On the Project of the Sport Biomechanics of IAAF World Championships Daegu 2011 (2011 대구세계육상선수권대회 운동역학 프로젝트 수행 방안)

  • The aim of IAAF's Biomechanics project, initially launched at the 1987 World Championships in Rome, is to support athletes and coaches in the optimization and improvement of their training and competition performance. The IAF and the IAAF supports biomechanical projects, as a service to their Member Federations, starting from the IAAF World Championships in Rome 1987. In 1997, at the IAAF World Championships of Athens. In 1995, at the IAAF World Championships in Goteborg and in co-operation with the Swedish Sport Institute of Karlstad and under the leadership of Anders Bergstrom a biomechanical research on "Throws" was conducted. In 2005, at the IAAF World Championships in Helsinki on 100m - Pole vault, High Jump, Triple Jump, Javelin, under the leadership of Prof. Paavo Komi. The IAAF published the final report in 2008 with a supplement of NSA. In 2007, at the IAAF World Championships of Osaka, in co-operation with Osaka University of Health and Sport Sciences and under the leadership of Prof. Michiyoshi Ae the IAAF received a final report on; short sprint, distance running, high jump, long jump, shot put and javelin. In 2009, at the IAAF World Championships of Berlin, in co-operation with the DLV and the leadership of Helmar Hommel (GER). The purpose of this study is to draw up a plan to perform an effective biomechanics project at 2011 IAAF World championship in Daegu.

The effect of leadership types on achievement goal orientation of the athletes in Physical Education High Schools (지도자의 리더십 유형이 체육고등학교 운동선수들의 성취목표성향에 미치는 영향)

  • To study the influence of leadership types on achievement goal orientation of high school athletes, Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) and Task and Ego Orientation in Sport Questionnaire (TEOSQ) were used to two-hundred-ninety athletes in Physical Education High Schools. The data from the survey were analyzed by SPSS 19.0 and the results of the analysis were as in the following. First, there were meaningful differences in the leadership factors according to the demographic characteristics. Male athletes tended to be more conscious of the individualized consideration(transformation leadership), contingent reward, management by exception(transactional leadership) of the leadership factors. Second, there were differences in athletes' achievement goal orientation. Comparing to the female athletes, male athletes gave more importance on the task goal orientation. Third, there were differences in the leader's leadership types on the athlete's achievement goal orientation. The athletes with self goal orientation and the individualized consideration (transformational leadership) of leadership types showed statistically meaningful differences. The athletes with high self goal orientation had a negative relationship to the individualized consideration and a positive relationship to the intellectual stimulation. The athletes with task goal orientation showed differences in the transactional leadership as well as in the contingent reward.
