  • In this study, each pixel in an ear is used as a centroid to generate a cake. Subsequently the major axis length of this cake is computed and obtained. This obtained major axis length serves as a feature to recognize an ear. Later, the ear hole is used as a centroid and a 16-circle template is generated to extract the major axis lengths of the ear. The 16-circle template extracted signals are used to recognize an ear. In the next step, a ring-to-line mapping technique is used to map these major axis lengths to several straight-line signals. Next, the complex plane vector computing technique is used to determine the similarity of these major axis lengths, whereby a solution to the image-rotating problem is achieved. The aforementioned extracted signals are also compared to the ones that are extracted from its neighboring pixels, whereby solving the image-shifting problem. The algorithm developed in this study can precisely identify an ear image by solving the image rotation and image shifting problems.

  • In this paper we establish the general solution of the functional equation f(2x+y)+f(x-2y)=2f(x+y)+2f(x-y)+f(-x)+f(-y) and investigate the Hyers-Ulam-Rassias stability of this equation in quasi-Banach spaces. The concept of Hyers-Ulam-Rassias stability originated from Th. M. Rassias' stability theorem that appeared in his paper: On the stability of the linear mapping in Banach spaces, Proc. Amer. Math. • A "finite volume method" is proposed to predict heat transport in a spherical enclosure at micro/nanoscale with the Boltzmann transport equation (BTE). The gray version of the BTE with the relaxation time approximation has been applied. Pointing out similarity between radiative transfer equation (RTE) and BTE, the mapping process in RTE is adopted to treat the angular derivative term and linear algebraic discretization equation is derived by using the established method which is used in 2-D BTE in cartesian coordinates. The simulation results are compared to exact solution to RTE for various acoustic thicknesses and ratio of radii. The comparison shows that this method is logical and accurate, and it is possible to easily adopt various models in spherical BTE.

  • In this paper, we obtain the general solution and the generalized Hyers-Ulam-Rassias stability for a following functional equation $$\sum\limits_{i=1}^mf(x_i+\frac{1}{m}\sum\limits_{{i=1\atop j{\neq}i}\.}^mx_j)+f(\frac{1}{m}\sum\limits_{i=1}^mx_i)=2f(\sum\limits_{i=1}^mx_i)$$ for a fixed positive integer m with $m\;{\geq}\;2$. This is applied to investigate derivations and their stability on proper Lie $CQ^*$-algebras. The concept of Hyers-Ulam-Rassias stability originated from the Th. M. Rassias stability theorem that appeared in his paper: On the stability of the linear mapping in Banach spaces, Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 72(1978), 297-300.

  • In this paper we establish the general solution and investigate the Hyers-Ulam-Rassias stability of the following functional equation in quasi-Banach spaces. $${\sum\limits_{{{1{\leq}i<j{\leq}4}\limits_{1{\leq}k<l{\leq}4}}\limits_{k,l{\in}I_{ij}}}\;f(x_i+x_j-x_k-x_l)=2\;\sum\limits_{1{\leq}i<j{\leq}4}}\;f(x_i-x_j)$$ where $I_{ij}$={1, 2, 3, 4}\backslash${i, j} for all $1{\leq}i<j{\leq}4$. • Conventional battery state-of-charge (SoC) estimation methods either involve sophisticated models or consume considerable computational resource. This study constructs an enhanced coulomb counting method (Ah method) for the SoC estimation of lithium-ion batteries (LiBs) by expanding the Peukert equation for the discharging process and incorporating the Coulombic efficiency for the charging process. Both the rate- and temperature-dependence of battery capacity are encompassed. An SoC mapping approach is also devised for initial SoC determination and Ah method correction. The charge counting performance at different sampling frequencies is analyzed experimentally and theoretically. To achieve a favorable compromise between sampling frequency and accumulation accuracy, a frequency-adjustable current sampling solution is developed. Experiments under the augmented urban dynamometer driving schedule cycles at different temperatures are conducted on two LiBs of different chemistries. Results verify the effectiveness and generalization ability of the proposed SoC estimation method.

  • Color reproduction is one of the most important expression factors in digital printing. In this paper, an experiment was done where the characteristics of color reproduction in digital printing. The results could summarized as follows. The printing used device profile showed a color difference of less than printing used default value in digital printing. As a result of weighting color difference, a difference between color gamut of digital original and color gamut of printing, when transforming the RGB color space to CMY color space, a exclusion the gray revision. The solution is to optimize the color transformation by gamut mapping and gray revision.

  • This paper proposes a graph matching algorithm based on simulated annealing, which assures the globally optimal solution for circuit partitioning for the placement in the rectilinear region occurring as a result of the pre-placement of some macro cells, or onto the nonplanar surface in some military or space applications. The circuit graph ($G_{C}$) denoting the circuit topology is formed by a hierarchical bottom-up clustering of cells, while another graph called region graph ($G_{R}$) represents the geometry of a planar rectilinear region or a nonplanar surface for circuit placement. Finding the optimal many-to-one vertex mapping function from $G_{C}$ to $G_{R}$, such that the total mismatch cost between two graphs is minimal, is a combinatorial optimization problem which was solved in this work for various examples using simulated annealing.

  • A new class of nonlinear set-valued mixed variational inclusions involving (A, ${\eta}$)-accretive mappings in Banach spaces is introduced and studied, which includes many kind of variational inclusion (inequality) and complementarity problems as special cases. By using the resolvent operator associated with (A, ${\eta}$)-accretive operator due to Lan-Cho-Verma, the existence of solution for this kind of variational inclusion is proved, and a new hybrid proximal point algorithm is established and suggested, the convergence and stability theorems of iterative sequences generated by new iterative algorithms are also given in q-uniformly smooth Banach spaces.

  • Herein the flow past a submerged circular cylinder with a free surface is mapped onto a reference plane, in which the free surface is transformed to a straight line and the cylinder to a certain shape. A global mapping function between two planes is sought in a manner that linear free-surface elevation is generated in the physical plane. Hereby the Froude mumber $F_h$, based on the submergence depth h', is assumed to be of order 0(1) and the ratio a'/h'(a'=cylinder radius) of order o(1). Wave thus obtained are slightly different in magnitude and phase from usual linear solution. The resulting free wave starts advanced ahead compared to the classical result and its amount depends on Froude number. Based on the present concept wave forces are calculated. In this type of approach the body boundary condition gives more influence on wave resistance than that by the free surface in the speed range $F_h>1$.
