문화사회학적 시각에서 본 패션의 전략적 사용 (Strategic Use of Fashion: A View from Sociology of Culture)

  • Using a data set drawn from 1419 college students, this study analyzes what implications clothing or fashion has on self-expression or image management in Korean society and who are more likely to use fashion as a image management tool in the process of interacting with others. Employing Pierre Bourdieu's concept of capital, we discuss three theories concerning correspondence between class and fashion: the theory focusing on economic capital in emphasizing the correspondence; the theory focusing on cultural capital in emphasizing the correspondence and the theory emphasizing relationships between fashion and other factors rather than class. Based on the theoretical examination, we select independent variables that can be grouped into status/class variables, or economic capital variables(such as subjective status, income, father's education, father's occupation) and socio-cultural variables, or cultural capital variables(such as possession of cultural capital, desire for upward mobility). Upon regressing strategic use of fashion on independent variables, we find that both status/class variables and socio-cultural variables are statistically significant in explaining the strategic mobilization of fashion for one's image production or social success. It shows that class as a form of economic capital has important effects on the strategic use of fashion, and cultural capital also has effects independent of economic capital.

거주자의 대 사회적 개념과 주거공간의 영역별 구성체계와의 관계 - 한국과 독일의 주거형태학적 비교관찰을 통하여 - (The Relationship between the User's Perception of Socio-cultural Attributes and the Spatial Structures of Dwelling Spaces - a Comparative Study between Korean and German Housings -)

  • This comparative study between Korean and German housings aims at understanding different structural systems in the indoor and outdoor spaces, depending upon the user′s perception of the socio-cultural attributes. The analysis starts with four alternative contrary assumptions, that appear in morphological forms of dwelling; 1) linear distribution vs. areal distribution of residential districts, 2) mirror system vs. comb system in the layout of plot plans 3) organization of front vs. back outdoor spaces and 4) opening vs. closing in the indoor spaces. A clear difference is found between Korean and German samples in view of public and private relationships between indoor and outdoor spaces as well as the intermediate space. In the korean housing there always exists a symbolic and psychological territory of a certain sphere. On the other hand, outdoor space passes through various phases only to form a certain hierarchy even in a private space and, thereby, sets a boundary between private and public areas. In the case of Germany, the building itself draws a clear line between private and public outdoor spaces, and therefore the outdoor space has a "front" and "back". Thus, Germany′s private space may face a genuine public space and street, which is rare in the Korean housing. Although the layout of indoor space in the korean housing tends to be open, such an openness may be outstanding in living and dining spaces, kitchen and various accesses to rooms. In the case of Germany, such indoor spaces are usually closed to each other. Thus corridors act to separate these spaces. Such differences are analysed to be due to the different perceptions of interpersonal and socio-cultural attributes as intra-family and inter-neighbor relationships or communications.

  • What is the concept ad reality of so-called 'Knowledge Revolution'\ulcorner Wat is the philosophy ad logic of the people who advocate the necessity and urgency of knowledge Revolution in Korean society\ulcorner Are their arguments rational an desirable for the healthy development of Korean society\ulcorner This article deals with such issues from the socio-cultural point of view. The author argues that the 'real' purpose of knowledge Revolution should be on the recovery of socio-cultural competitive edge rather than the temporary improvement of this economic competence, and that public library revolution should be a prerequisite for the success of Knowledge Revolution. Also suggested are the macro and micro strategies and methods for the realization of the public library revolution.

한국영화의 초국가적 수용: 영화리뷰를 중심으로 (Transnational Reception of Korean Film: Analyses of Film Reviews)

  • This paper is based on the view that film should be conceived as a form of cultural practice whose meaning is always in the process of being produced within diverse socio-cultural contexts and aims to examine the ways in which the meaning of Korean film is (re)mediated or received in diverse cultural contexts outside the country. In this paper, we employ two theoretical grounds. Firstly, it positions itself in line with the audience studies within the field of cultural studies where the audience is conceived as active agents who produce the meaning of a popular culture text. The recruitment of the theoretical propositions from the audience studies enables recognition of the significance of the reception in film practice which recently seems to be oriented on production and distribution. Secondly, we conceive transnationality of film as that which is being produced in the process of transaction between the film and the audience, that is to say, transnationality is a form of discourse that emerges upon cultural interaction. The empirical work involves examination of a set of reviews of four films--Chihwaseon, Oldboy, Thirt, Poety--that have been published in daily newspapers and some popular film magazines in the U. S., the U. K. and France. Through the analysis of the film reviews, we identify four interpretive schemes or rather discourses recruited via which the Korean films are approached and understood: auteurism, formalism, universal themes, emotional response. We propose that these four kinds of discourse provide a common ground for the audience from different cultural backgrounds to understand Korean film. Furthermore, we also suggest that transnationality of Korean cinema needs to be reconsidered in terms of the reception as the audience from different socio-cultural backgrounds should be understood as active agents who are capable of engaging in Korean cultural texts such as film in their own way producing various meanings and these are also constituent of the meaning of the cultural texts.

영양학 연구의 생택학적 접근 (An Ecological Approach to Nutritional Research)

  • The article demonstrates a method of studying human health and nutrition by applying a multi-disciplinary approach and examines how humans developed and survived by adjusting to their environment. This process involves physiological, cultural and genetic adaptation both independently and interactively. This study postulates that a sound human health may be the result of balance between nutrition and environmental conditions. It is noted that there is a positive correlation between malaria and fava bean intake, and sickle cell anemia and cassava intake. It is also suggested that the difference in disease structure in soybean and non-soybean consumption cultures can be explained by an ecological approach to studying nutrition. This study further suggest that the relationship between nutrition and socio-cultural system. epidmiological study of nutrition and cultural environment nutrition and conceptual characteristics, nutrition and food intake pattern, nutrition and health sociological functions and the physioloical, cultural and genetic adaptation can all be stimulating research subjects to be studied form and ecological point of view. This article also includes the results from a series of ecological studies conducted by the author investigating the relationship between nutritional status of Korean breast-feeding mothers and the composition of the human milk and also the Vitamin D status of Korean and their lifestyle.   • 디지털 문화유산의 활용범위가 확대 되면서, 국내에서도 체계화된 디지털 문화유산 연구가 필요하게 되었다. 유럽에서 진행된 EPOCH 프로젝트는 디지털 문화유산 연구의 표준화 작업, 기술과 역사학 간의 학제간 연계 증진 방안 연구, 디지털 문화유산의 실질적인 활용방안 모색 등의 결과를 이루었다. 이를 경영 기술 문화 영역에서 분석함으로서 앞으로 진행될 디지털 문화유산 프로젝트의 방향을 발견할 수 있었다. 본 논문에서는 정책분야에서 디지털 문화유산의 독립적인 연구 분야 확립과 박물관의 민간 자본 투입을 제안하고, 연구 분야에서는 맞춤형 기술을, 그리고 경영학 측면에서의 연구 필요성 등을 제안한다.

  • This study looks into the change of the concept of museum and the programs as well from sociocultural point of view Since the very beginning in history, the museum has been a place to educate people with diverse evidences regarding on the human history by preserving legacies of the past. Throughout the long history, the concept of museum and its programs have been revised in accordance with social changes. Consequently, these changes brought the transformation of museums' roles nowadays. The reason is the public in diverse society are so accustomed to stimulus and dynamic cultural changes has induced those change in some senses. The study points that the variation of museum programs are to be developed and museum marketing strategies including global management of art museums should seriously be considered. It also brings new form of museum architecture. The concept of revitalizing museum can expand the band of public and provide them opportunities a place for various cultural activities which can lead a new trend in this society.

사수(邪祟)에 대한 의학적 인식의 변화 (Change of Perception on Sasu(邪祟), Evil-Spirit(鬼邪) Related Disease)

  • Objectives : This study aims at exposing interaction between socio-cultural influence on medicine, and the strong quest for rational explanation concerning the evil-spirit(鬼邪) related disease, namely Sasu(邪祟), in medical history. Methods : In order to apprehend the change of perception, Chinese medical classics referring directly to Sasu(邪祟), as well as Korean medical classics from Joseon dynasty were reviewed. Results : In Chinese medical texts, discriminating pseudo-sasu(類似邪祟) from evil-spirit related sasu had been one of the main concerns. And Chinese were more inclined to specify treatment plan for pseudo-sasu than handling evil spirits. On the contrary, Korean medical texts show common interests in eliminating evil spirits throughout Joseon dynasty. Conclusions : Since medicine is under the influence of socio-cultural condition, it cannot escape from the epistemology of corresponding society. Evil-spirit related disease therefore could remain within the sphere of medical discussion until very recently. If we observe the disease under the frame of culture, we not only can obtain broader view on dynamic nature of medical conceptions, but also gain better insight to understand medical classics.

  • 본 연구는 미래 디자인의 변화에 관하여, 디자인의 내재적 변화 요인보다는 디자인이라는 주체가 태동 성장 발전 쇠퇴하면서 진화해가는, 사회 환경의 변화와 연계시켜 진행되었다. 보편적으로 인간은 어떤 행위를 하기 이전에 내적으로 스스로 결정한 정신적 관념적 가치와 목적을 갖고, 외적으로는 물질적 현실적으로 동원할 수 있는 여러 가지 재료와 수단을 고려한다. 그리고 이 두 가지 사이에서 가장 합리적이고 경제적인 방법으로 행동을 결정한다. 이것은 인간을 포함한 모든 주체가 주어진 환경에서 생존 진화해 가는 메카니즘이라 할 수 있다. 이러한 점에서 미래 디자인 변화의 방향 역시 미래 인간의 정신적 가치와 물질적 기술의 변화에 의하여 추론할 수 있다. (이것은 사회학자들이 사회 변화의 주된 요인으로서, 문화결정론과 기술결정론 두 가지 모두를 취하는 것과 동일하다.) 따라서 본 연구는 현재 나타나는, 정신에 관련된 가치와 규범 그리고 물질에 관련된 기술 경제에 관한 다양한 의미어들을 상호 연계시켜 그 가운데서 태동될 수 있는 미래 디자인의 변화에 관한 의미어들을 추론하였다.

빅블러 관점으로 바라본 패션 시장의 변화에 관한 연구 (A Study on Changes in the Fashion Market Viewed from the Perspective of Big Blur)

  • Today, the development of innovative technologies is accompanied by changes in the industrial structure and the Big Blur phenomenon, where the boundaries in various fields are blurred. The purpose of this study was to view the Big Blur phenomenon as a big paradigm shift in the 21st century and derive environmental changes and characteristics of the Korean fashion market. The research method included an analysis of the fashion brands after 2015. Through this study, we intended to establish a framework for understanding the changes in the fashion market from the perspective of Big Blur and discuss the direction of brand marketing. The research results showed the hyperlinks, connectivity, openness, homeostasis, synchronicity, mobility, interactivity, and brand experience of online and offline spaces beyond the boundaries of virtual space and offline physical spaces such as online physical and spatial viewpoints. It also showed the characteristics. The characteristics from the socio-cultural point of view were characteristic of diversity, mixture, coexistence, composability, and pluralism beyond the traditional socio-cultural and regulatory scopes. Hip hop fashion, street fashion, unisex, genderless, androgynous fashion, and kid fashion are the backbone of the Big Blur and are becoming important factors in fashion. The characteristics of the market and economic viewpoint are prosumers that play roles both as producers and consumers. It shows the extensibility of consumers as producers, the cohesiveness of producers and consumers, the cooperation, and the interconnectivity.
