Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of child care teachers' happiness and social support on job performance. Methods: The subjects were 380 teachers employed in child care centers and kindergartens in Gyeonggi Province. Self-report questionnaires were used to investigate teachers' happiness, social support and job performance. The data were analyzed by frequency, percent, Pearson's correlation and stepwise regression with the SPSS program. Results: The results of this study were as follow. First, teachers' job performance was positively associated with teachers' happiness. The highest correlation sub-variable was purpose in life. Next were personal growth, self-acceptance, environmental mastery and autonomy. And the last was positive relationships with others. Teachers' job performance was positively associated with teachers' social support. The highest correlation sub-variable was evaluative support. Next were affective support and material support. And the last was informative support. Second, teachers' happiness and social support affected job performance. Evaluative support, which was a sub-variable of social support, affected job satisfaction. And personal growth, purpose in life, and self-acceptance, which were sub-variables of happiness, affected job satisfaction. Conclusion: This study revealed that teacher's happiness and social support were important factors for teachers job performance.
Objective: This study examined the relationships among social support in the workplace, social support outside the workplace, child care teachers' psychological burnout, and teacher-child interactions. Methods: The subjects of this study were 262 child care teachers and they responded to questionnaires on research variables. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling. Results: First, social support outside the workplace had a direct effect on teacher-child interactions; that is, child care teachers, who perceived that they received a high level of social support outside the workplace, had high-quality interactions with children. Second, social support in the workplace had an indirect effect on teacher-child interactions through child care teachers' psychological burnout. In other words, child care teachers, who perceived that they received a high level of social support in the workplace, experienced less psychological burnout, which led to high-quality interactions with children. Conclusion/Implications: This study confirmed that the paths in which social support in the workplace and social support outside the workplace influence teacher-child interactions were different. Although the pathways were different, the results of this study emphasize that both types of social support are important factors that promote teacher-child interactions.
Objective: The purpose of this study is to analyze the mediating effect of teacher's ego resilience in the relationship between the social support of colleague teachers and teacher-child interaction. Methods: A survey was conducted on 181 teachers working at early childhood education institutions located in Gyeonggi and Chungbuk regions. The structural equation model was verified with the Mplus 6.0 program. Results: First, the social support of colleague teachers directly affects teacher's ego-resilience and teacher-child interaction, and teachers ego-resilience has a significant effect on teacher-child interaction. Second, the teachers ego-resilience was found to be partially mediated in the relationship between the social support of fellow teachers and teacher-child interaction. With bootstrapping, the mediating effect of teachers ego-resilience was found to be statistically significant between the social support of colleague teachers and teacher-child interaction. Conclusion/Implications: Social support of fellow teachers plays an important role in the positive expression of teacher-child interaction, and the quality of relationships with children can be further enhanced by promoting teachers ego-resilience that mediates the two variables.
Objective: This study examined the effects of social support and resilience on life satisfaction of child care teachers. Methods: This study was conducted by sampling 162 child care teachers who participated in job training courses in the Gyeongsangbuk-do region. Three kinds of variables, which included social support, resilience, and life satisfaction were measured. The collected data were analyzed using PASW 18.0 program for windows. Results: First, social support, resilience, and life satisfaction of the child care teachers were generally above normal. The resilience subscale showed the highest score in 'affirmative', followed by 'interpersonal ability', 'self-control ability'. And the 'support of colleagues' was higher than 'support of superior' in the social support's subscale. Next, there were no significant differences in social support by child care teachers' background, but there were significant differences in resilience and life satisfaction of child care teachers' according to their working center types and academic levels. Second, life satisfaction was positively correlated with social support, and resilience. The 'affirmative', 'support of superior' variables were factors that predicted life satisfaction. Conclusion/Implications: We suggested ways to increase the life satisfaction of child care teachers through the 'affirmative' and 'support of superior' variables.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the structural relationship between the authentic leadership of the director, social support, and teacher efficacy perceived by early childhood teachers. Methods: The participants of the study were 433 teachers working at kindergartens and daycare centers in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. The data collected through the survey were analyzed by applying a structural equation model. Results: As a result of the study, it was found that the authentic leadership of the director perceived by early childhood teachers had a positive (+) effect on the early childhood teachers' social support and teacher efficacy, respectively, and social support had a positive (+) effect on teacher efficacy of the early childhood teachers. The results showed that social support had a positive mediating effect in the relationship between the director's authentic leadership and teacher efficacy perceived by early childhood teachers. Conclusion/Implications: The results suggest that it is necessary to establish a social support system through the exercise of the director's authentic leadership in order to improve the teacher efficacy of early childhood teachers.
This study examined the effects of ego-resilience and directors' and fellow teachers' social support on childcare teachers' job stress. The participants were 323 childcare teachers in Chung nam Province and Daejeon Metropolitan City. The research instruments were Job Stress Scale by Cho(2004), Ego-resilience Scale by Park(1996) with CPI and CAQ correction, and Social Support Scale by Park(1985). Collected data were analysed by t-test, F test and Scheff$\acute{e}$ test for post hoc test, Pearson's productive correlation and stepwise multiple regression, and Cronbach's $\alpha$ for reliability by SPSS PC program (17.0 version). The results were as follows: First, the childcare teachers' job stress level was low (M=2.51, SD=.63), while ego-resilience level and social support level of directors and fellow teachers (M=3.68, SD=.58; M=3.62, SD=.94; M=3.83, SD=.69, respectively) were above the average. Second, there were significant differences between different levels of ego-resilience and of social support from directors and fellow teachers. Last, directors' social support and childcare teachers' optimistic attitude of ego-resilience were the most dominant variables that affected childcare teachers' job stress level(R2=38.3% for total score of childcare teachers' job stress).
Objective: The purpose of the present study was to examine the associations between affective commitment, social support, and life satisfaction among child care teachers. Methods: One hundred fifty-four child care teachers in the metropolitan area of Seoul completed a questionnaire on affective commitment, social support, and life satisfaction. Descriptive statistics, correlation analyses, hierarchical multiple regression analyses using the bootstrapping method were conducted. Results: The results showed that affective commitment predicted increased life satisfaction. The results also revealed significant moderation effects of social support on the relationship between affective commitment and life satisfaction. Further analyses revealed significant moderation effects of support from directors and colleagues on the relationship. Conclusion/Implications: The findings highlight the importance of affective commitment in enhancing life satisfaction among child care teachers. The positive association is more pronounced among child care teachers who perceive social support, highlighting the supportive roles of directors and colleagues in enhancing life satisfaction among child care teachers.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship with self-efficacy and social support and organizational commitment of kindergarten and child care teachers. The subjects were 257 kindergarten and child care teachers. The data were analyzed by Path Analysis, Multiple Regression(using SPSS 15.0 and Amos 6.0). Major findings were as follows: (1) The self-efficacy was significantly associated with organizational commitment of kindergarten and child care teachers. And social support was significantly associated with organizational commitment of kindergarten and child care teachers. (2) The self-efficacy was significantly associated with social support of kindergarten and child care teachers (3) The self-efficacy was not significantly associated with organizational commitment of kindergarten and child care teachers, controlled by social support. That result showed the social support was more important variable affecting organizational commitment of kindergarten and child care teachers than the self-efficacy.
This study investigates the relationships among emotional support from social network, ego-resiliency, and role conflict of teachers in kindergartens and day care centers. The subjects were 192 teachers who worked in kindergartens or child care centers in Daegu and Gyeongbuk Province. Questionnaires, which require self-report by teachers, were used to investigate the emotional support from social network, ego-resiliency, and role conflict. The collected data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation, single and multiple regressions, using SPSS Win 15.0. The results are as follows. (1) Emotional support from social network and ego-resiliency was negatively associated with the role conflict of teachers in kindergartens and day care centers. (2) Emotional support from social network was positively associated with ego-resiliency. (3) Emotional support from social network partly exerted indirect effects on role conflict mediated by ego-resiliency. But direct effect of emotional support from social network on role conflict was more than the indirect effect. These results indicate that a higher level of emotional support from social network is more likely to lower role conflict of teachers.
This investigation studied 1)the correlations among pre-service child care teachers' behavioral characteristics, social support and self-efficacy, and 2)the mediating effects of pre-service child care teachers' behavioral characteristics and social support on self-efficacy. The subjects were 240 pre-service child care teachers working at S-center for nursery teacher education or I-center for nursery teacher education in the Incheon area. The findings are as follows. First, the relationships among pre-service child care teachers' behavioral characteristics, social support and self-efficacy were examined by showing correlations. Second, we found that in terms of the mediating role of social support in the relationship between pre-service child care teachers' behavioral characteristics and self-efficacy, type D and type S show self-efficacy; they also have a direct impact on the social support indirectly affected through. Thus, social support can be seen as having a partial mediating effect.
