  • In computer-aided geometric modeling(CAGD), subdivision surfaces are frequently employed to construct free-form surfaces. In the present study, Loop scheme and Catmull-Clark scheme are applied to generate smooth surfaces. To be consistent with the limit points of target surface, the initial sampling points are properly rearranged. The pointwise errors of curvature and position in the sequence of subdivision process are evaluated in both Loop scheme & Catmull-Clark subdivision scheme. In partcural, a general subdivision method in order to generate considering extraordinary points are implemented free from surface with arbitrary sampling point information.

  • We consider a surface reconstruction problem from geometrical points (i.e., points given without any order) distributed on a series of smooth parallel cross sections in ${\mathbb{R}}^3$. To solve the problem, we utilize the natural points ordering method in ${\mathbb{R}}^2$, described in [18], which is a method of reconstructing a curve from a set of sample points and is based on the concept of diffusion motions of a small object from one point to the other point. With only the information of the positions of these geometrical points, we construct an acceptable surface consisting of triangular facets using a heuristic algorithm to link a pair of parallel cross-sections constructed via the natural points ordering method. We show numerical simulations for the proposed algorithm with some sets of sample points.

  • A simple method is proposed to detect the number of change points and test the location and size of multiple change points with jump discontinuities in an otherwise smooth regression model. The proposed estimators are based on a local linear regression fit by the comparison of left and right one-side kernel smoother. Our proposed methodology is explained and applied to real data and simulated data.

  • This paper focuses on the finite element (FE) response sensitivity and reliability analyses considering smooth constitutive material models. A reinforced concrete frame is modeled for FE sensitivity analysis followed by direct differentiation method under both static and dynamic load cases. Later, the reliability analysis is performed to predict the seismic behavior of the frame. Displacement sensitivity discontinuities are observed along the pseudo-time axis using non-smooth concrete and reinforcing steel model under quasi-static loading. However, the smooth materials show continuity in response sensitivity at elastic to plastic transition points. The normalized sensitivity results are also used to measure the relative importance of the material parameters on the structural responses. In FE reliability analysis, the influence of smoothness behavior of reinforcing steel is carefully noticed. More efficient and reasonable reliability estimation can be achieved by using smooth material model compare with bilinear material constitutive model.

  • This paper presents an improved guidance algorithm for autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV) in 3D space for generating smoother vehicle turn during the course change at the way-points. The way-point guidance by the line-of-sight (LOS) method has been modified for correcting the reference angles to achieve minimal calculation and smoother transition at the way-points. The algorithm has two phases in which the first phase brings the vehicle to converge to a distance threshold point on the line segment connecting the first two way-points and the next phase generates an angular path with smoother transition at the way-points. Then the desired angles are calculated from the reference and correction angles. The path points are regularly parameterized in the spherical coordinates and mapped to the Cartesian coordinates. The proposed algorithm is found to be simple and can be used for real time implementation. The details of the algorithm and simulation results are presented.

  • Let C be a smooth complex algebraic curve of genus g. For a divisor D on C, dim D means the dimension of the complete linear series $\mid$D$\mid$ containing D, which is the same as the projective dimension of the vector space of meromorphic functions f on C with divisor of poles $(f)_\infty \leq D$.
