  • This paper proposes a direction estimation scheme with directional speaker and smart device for evacuation guidance. When there is worst disaster environment filled with smoke and noisy sound, evacuee can not get any information about evacuation routes. The proposed scheme can be used for detecting evacuation routes with audible and inaudible signal from directional speaker. At this point, evacuee can get evacuee guidance by using smartphone application that the proposed scheme is applied. The performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated by experiment with three different types of smart devices in large indoor environment. The purpose of experiment is to detect the direction of transmitted signal from directional speaker. Therefore, The experiment is conducted by analyzing the strength of transmitted signal by distance. The experimental results show that even if the smart device is located up to 20m away from the speaker, it is possible to detect the sending direction of the signal. We confirmed the possibility of the proposed technology in 8kHz and 20kHz signal detection by smart device.

  • This study was to evaluate opportunities for the commercialization of smart insole. smart technology is evolving to Insole. Pressure-sensitive sensor or an acceleration sensor is applied to create a balance of the feet and body, is also evolving for entertainment (sports, entertainment, etc.) and health care. Moreover, smart insole can fix an incorrect walking habit by sending a weight value measured by the sensor on a smartphone and during the movement, smart insole helps to correct body balance by measuring the center of gravity moving condition. However, smart tendency of the insole has yet to create a clear boundary in the entertainment and healthcare markets. This is because the fitness band, smart socks, smart shoes can also replace the benefits of a smart insole. Interestingly, the business opportunities are appearing more frequently in health care solution service of electrocardiogram, body temperature, blood pressure, etc., rather than smart devices.

  • A development on the indoor positioning technologies and services has been proceeded very actively. Among the several positioning technologies, the TDOA(Time Difference of Arrival) technology using acoustic signal has the best positioning performance. Because so many people use their own smartphones, the location of the smartphone is important, and the TDOA technology should be employed to use the acoustic signal for the positioning. For the digital signal processing with the acoustic signal, the signal should be sampled, and as the sampling rate increases, the positioning accuracy could be improved instead of processing time burden. In this paper, the position estimation error according to the sampling rate is analyzed, and the appropriate sampling rate for the positioning system is proposed.

  • The purpose of this study was to apply a variety of criteria to analyzing mobile applications for early childhood education, which are now available in application market, and was also to explore how the developmental characteristics and multimedia content characteristics of early childhood could be applied to mobile applications for early childhood education. To meet these purposes, this study targeted total 61 applications for infancy education in terms of mobile applications loaded on online education categories such as iPhone App Store and Android Market. Based on analytic criteria on the foundation of content type by learning type, cognitive load theory and multimedia design principle, this study analyzed those applications for early childhood. As a result, it was found that there were needs to develop a little more various categories of applications, and there were also needs to develop such applications that they can make the best use of smart phone's performance, comply with multimedia design principles but avoid any imprudent use of multimedia.

  • In modern society the image processing has been applied to various digital devices such as smartphone, digital camera, and digital TV. In the field of image processing the edge detection is one of the important parts in the image processing procedure. The image edge means point that the pixel value is changed between background and object rapidly, and includes the important information such as magnitude, location, and orientation. The performance of the existing edge detection method is insufficient for the image degraded by AWGN(additive white Gaussian noise) because it detects edges by using small weighted masks. Therefore, in this paper, to detect edge in AWGN environment effectively, we proposed an algorithm that detects edge as calculated gradient of sorting vector which is transformed by estimated mask from new pixel according to each region.

  • With the increasing demands of 3D spatial information in urban environment, the importance of point clouds generation techniques have been increased. In particular, for as-built BIM, the point clouds with the high accuracy and density is required to describe the detail information of building components. Since the terrestrial LiDAR has high performance in terms of accuracy and point density, it has been widely used for as-built 3D modelling. However, the high cost of devices is obstacle for general uses, and the image-based 3D reconstruction technique is being a new attraction as an alternative solution. This paper compares the image-based 3D reconstruction technique and the terrestrial LiDAR in point of establishing the as-built BIM of outdoor structures. The point clouds generated from the image-based 3D reconstruction technique could roughly present the 3D shape of a building, but could not precisely express detail information, such as windows, doors and a roof of building. There were 13.2~28.9 cm of RMSE between the terrestrial LiDAR scanning data and the point clouds, which generated from smartphone and DSLR camera images. In conclusion, the results demonstrate that the image-based 3D reconstruction can be used in drawing building footprint and wireframe, and the terrestrial LiDAR is suitable for detail 3D outdoor modeling.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to develop a multimeter which is used for measuring electric signals in industrial field by using battery and display of smart phone. Most of the multimeters that are linked to existing smartphones are connected to Bluetooth, which is inconvenient for battery use and low in measurement accuracy. To improve this, we developed smart multimeter that can supply power and data at the same time by USB OTG method which can be used by sharing the power of smartphone. We also developed a smart multimeter that can measure resistance, DC voltage, current, AC voltage and current. Developed an Android app with a button that displays measurement data and can select the type of electric signal to be measured, and tests whether the manufactured system is operating normally or not. Respectively. The results of this study confirm that it is possible to fabricate a smart meter that has equal or better performance compared to existing instruments and does not require a separate power source or display, and it is expected to be a reference for the development of various smart instruments in the future.

  • The remarkable development of IT is contributed to popularization of smart phones, which in turn creates a new domain called app store. Smartphone apps have grown fast because they can be easily purchased through an app store. As the volume of apps traded in app stores is so huge that it is extremely hard for users to find the exact app they want. In general, an app store recommends an app to users based on the search words they entered. In terms of recommendation of app, this kind of content-based method is not effective. To increase accuracy in recommending app, this paper proposes a characteristic similarity-based app recommendation method. This method creates attributes on the app based on the related information such as genre, functionality and number of downloads and then compares them with the propensity to use the app. According to diverse simulations, the method proposed in this paper improved the performance of app recommendation by 33% in average, compared to the conventional method.

  • Today, to block spam texts on smartphone, a simple string comparison between text messages and spam keywords or a blocking spam phone numbers is used. As results, spam text is sent in a gradually hanged way to prevent if from being automatically blocked. In particular, for words included in spam keywords, spam texts are sent to abnormal words using special characters, Chinese characters, and whitespace to prevent them from being detected by simple string match. There is a limit that traditional spam filtering methods can't block these spam texts well. Therefore, new technologies are needed to respond to changing spam text messages. In this paper, we propose a knowledge graph-based new words detection mechanism that can detect new words frequently used in spam texts and respond to changing spam texts. Also, we show experimental results of the performance when detected Korean new words are applied to the Naive Bayes algorithm.
