  • Drone-mounted hyperspectral sensors (DHSs) have revolutionized remote sensing in agriculture by offering a cost-effective and flexible platform for high-resolution spectral data acquisition. Their ability to capture data at low altitudes minimizes atmospheric interference, enhancing their utility in agricultural monitoring and management. This study focused on addressing the challenges of radiometric and geometric distortions in preprocessing drone-acquired hyperspectral data. Radiometric correction, using the empirical line method (ELM) and spectral reference panels, effectively removed sensor noise and variations in solar irradiance, resulting in accurate surface reflectance values. Notably, the ELM correction improved reflectance for measured reference panels by 5-55%, resulting in a more uniform spectral profile across wavelengths, further validated by high correlations (0.97-0.99), despite minor deviations observed at specific wavelengths for some reflectors. Geometric correction, utilizing a rubber sheet transformation with ground control points, successfully rectified distortions caused by sensor orientation and flight path variations, ensuring accurate spatial representation within the image. The effectiveness of geometric correction was assessed using root mean square error(RMSE) analysis, revealing minimal errors in both east-west(0.00 to 0.081 m) and north-south directions(0.00 to 0.076 m).The overall position RMSE of 0.031 meters across 100 points demonstrates high geometric accuracy, exceeding industry standards. Additionally, image mosaicking was performed to create a comprehensive representation of the study area. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of the applied preprocessing techniques and highlight the potential of DHSs for precise crop health monitoring and management in smart agriculture. However, further research is needed to address challenges related to data dimensionality, sensor calibration, and reference data availability, as well as exploring alternative correction methods and evaluating their performance in diverse environmental conditions to enhance the robustness and applicability of hyperspectral data processing in agriculture.

  • This study was undertaken to develop a cascade-type continuous culture system (CCCS) that combines both ICT and biotechnology (BT), for the mass production of microalgae. This system is capable of maintaining the essential culture conditions of pH, temperature, carbon dioxide, and illuminance control, which are key parameters for the growth of microalgae, and is economical for producing microalgae regardless of the season or location. It has the added advantage of providing stable and high productivity. In the current study, this system was applied to culture microalgae for 71 days, with subsequent analysis of the experimental data. The initial O.D. of the culture measured from incubator 1 was 0.006. On the 71st day of culture, the O.D.s obtained were 0.399 (incubator 1), 0.961 (incubator 2), 0.795 (incubator 3), and 0.438 (incubator 4), thereby confirming the establishment of continuous culture. Thus, we present a smart-farm based on ISMC (in-situ monitoring and control) for a mass culture method. We believe that this developed technology is suitable for commercialization, and has the potential to be applied to hydroponics-based cultivation of microalgae and cultivation of high-value-added medicinal plants as well as other plants used in functional foods, cosmetics, and medical materials.

  • As the COVID-19 pandemic and the development of IT technology have led to the gradual popularization of remote and telecommuting, cloud computing technology is advancing, and cyber attack techniques are becoming more sophisticated and advanced. In response to these trends, companies are increasingly moving away from traditional perimeter-based security and adopting Zero Trust to strengthen their security. Zero Trust, based on the core principle of doubting and not trusting everything, identifies all traffic and grants access permissions through a strict authentication process to enhance security. In this paper, we analyze the background of Zero Trust adoption and the adoption policies and trends of countries that are proactively promoting its implementation. Additionally, we propose necessary efforts from governments and organizations to strengthen corporate security and considerations for companies when applying Zero Trust.

  • Vessels sail according to the COLREG to prevent a collision. However, it is difficult to apply COLREG under special situation as heavy traffic, at this time personal skills of the operator are required. In this case, traffic control is required through the maritime traffic monitoring system. Therefore, maritime traffic management is globally implemented by VTS. In this system, VTS of icer uses the VTS system to assess risks and recommends possible safety operation to vessels with radio systems. This study considers that the risk analysis method with AI (Artificial Intelligence) technology from the operator's aspect. In addition, the research explains the Maritime Traffic Safety Monitoring System, Including AR (Augmented Reality) technology to increase vessel control efficiency. This system is able to predict hazards and risk priorities, and it leads to sequential elimination of dangerous situations. Especially, the hazard situations can be analyzed from operator's perspective of each vessel instead of the VTS officer's aspect, which is more practical than the conventional method. Furthermore, the result of analysis enables to comprehend quantitative hazardous areas and support recommended routes to avoid a collision. As a result, I firmly believe that the system will support to prevent a collision in complex traffic waters. In particular, it could be adopted as a collision prevention system for Maritime Autonomous Surface Ship, which occupies a significant proportion in Maritime 4th industrial revolution.

  • The importance of urban green space creation is increasingly recognized as the most realistic and efficient approach for fine dust mitigation in urban areas. Particularly considering the characteristics of domestic cities, the application of buffer green spaces along roads can maximize the efficiency of fine dust reduction without the need for separate green space creation. Accordingly, this study analyzed the fine dust mitigation effects based on the types of plantings in the central dividers and roadside trees in Jeonju City, Jeollabuk-do. To do this, we controlled various external variables of urban space and considered the planting arrangement types in the central dividers, carrying out the analysis using a CFD simulation. The simulation results confirmed that the central dividers with plantings demonstrated more effective ultrafine dust reduction than those without. Moreover, the arrangement of roadside trees showed a greater ultrafine dust reduction effect when adopting a multilayered structure compared to a single layer. Based on these findings, we concluded that installing both trees and shrubs simultaneously in the central dividers and along roads was effective for ultrafine dust mitigation. On this basis, we quantified the dust reduction effects of plants in urban street environments and proposed planting guidelines for roadside green spaces to improve air quality.

  • Objectives: The Korean Industrial Standard (KS) for sterile acupuncture needles was established in 2009 based on research on the quality control of acupuncture needles. We aimed to determine the quality of acupuncture needles available in South Korea in 2021 by examining their surface condition and chemical composition using field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). Methods: In South Korea, there are 23 brands of acupuncture needles, and we examined 10-15 needles from each brand, resulting in a total of 285 needles. The microstructures of the needles were assessed by SEM. Using SEM images, we evaluated the acupuncture needle tips for the following defects/aspects: scratches, lumps, detached coating, bent tip, and tip sharpness. EDS was used to determine the chemical composition of the selected acupuncture needles. Results: Overall, 88.4% of 285 needles were found to have at least one type of abnormality. The most frequently observed abnormalities were scratches and dents on the surface (68.1%), followed by detached coating (63.2%), and lumps (61.8%); blunt tips were observed in about 24% of them. Of 252 needles with at least one defect, 86.9% had two or more types of defects. The ratio of the number of needles with any defect to that of needles without any defect varied among brands, ranging from 50% to 100%. Regarding foreign materials, higher proportions of Si and O were observed on the needles, indicating incomplete or detached silicone coating. Conclusion: The quality of acupuncture needles varied among brands, suggesting that further improvements can be made through various inspection methods.

  • In this paper, we propose an example of designing and constructing a roof-type solar power plant structure equipped with a Pseudo-BIPV (Building-Integrated Photovoltaic) shape suitable for use as a roof of a small warehouse with a sandwich-type panel structure. As the characteristics of the roof-type solar power generation facility to be installed in the small warehouse proposed in this study, the shape of the roof is not a general A type, but a right-angled triangle shape with the slope is designed to face south. We chose a structure in which an inverter for one power plant and a control facility are linked by grouping several roofs of buildings. In addition, the height of the roof structure is less than 20 cm from the floor, and it has a shape similar to that of the BIPV, so it is building-friendly because it is almost in close contact with the roof. At the same time, the roof creates a reflective light source due to the white color. By linking this roof with a double-sided solar panel, we designed it to obtain both the advantage of the roof-friendliness and the advantage of efficiency improvement for the electric power generation based on the double-sided panel. Compared to the existing solar power generation facilities using A-shaped cross-sectional modules, the power generation efficiency of roofs in this case is increased by more than 11%, which we can confirm, through the comparison analysis of monitoring data between power plants in the same area. Therefore, if the roof-type solar structure suitable for the small warehouse we have presented in this paper is used, the facilities of electric power generation is eco-friendly. Further it is easier to obtain facility certification compared to the BIPV, and improved capacity of the power generation can be secured at low material cost. It is believed that the roof-type solar power generation facility we proposed can be usefully used for warehouse or factory-based smart housing. Sensor devices for monitoring, CCTV monitoring, or safety and environment management, operating in connection with the solar power generation facilities, are linked with the Internet of Things (IoT) solution, so they can be monitored and controlled remotely.
