Twenty six subject drove screws with a screw driver into thick wooden sheet at three vertical and horizontal locations. Subjects drive screws for 3 minutes at each location and they assessed the conditon using the psychophysical scale. An ANOVA showed that only vertical location was a signicant factor in determining the pain ratings of various body parts. Driving screws at elbow height on the vertical surface ans with the lower arm close to the body on the horizontal surface were the work locations with the smallest ratings of perceived pain and discomfort. Wearing gloves had significant effects on reducing the pain of the hand.

This paper reports the relation of concrete setting characteristic and lateral pressure in mass concrete wall such as side wall of LNG underground storage tank. In order to estimate the lateral pressure, initial setting time of low heat cement concrete with type of mineral admixture was measured for three concrete mixtures(W/P=41.6%) containing limestone powder, fly ash, and slag powder. As a result, the lateral pressure of the concrete containing limestone powder was the smallest than those of other concretes as well as the initial setting time.

The mitotic and meiotic chromosomes of Succineidae snail one species, Oxyloma hirasei(Pilsbry), were investigated by mians of air-drying mithod. The diploid chromosome numbers were n=18, 2n=36. Chromosome complements of this species consist of seven pairs of metacentrics and 11 pairs of submetacentric chromosomes. Spermatogonial metaphase chromosomes range in length from 4.80${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ for the largest pair to 1.44${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ for the smallest pair.

구들의 집합이 주어졌을 때, 주어진 구들이 모두 서로 겹치지 않은 경우 이들 모두와 교집합을 가지는 가장 작은 구(SIBB)를 계산하는 문제에 대해 연구한다. 먼저, 점집합에 대한 Welzl의 무작위 알고리즘을 구집합에 적용하였을 때, 계산된 결과가 조건을 만족하는 최소 크기의 구가 아닐 수 있다는 사실을 증명한다. 이와 함께, 선형 기대시간에 SIBB를 계산하는 새로운 무작위 알고리즘을 제시한다. 제시된 알고리즘은 구조가 간단하며 구현이 용이하여 실용적으로 사용될 수 있다.

A Fermat-type equation deals with representing a nonzero constant as a sum of kth powers of nonconstant functions. Suppose that $k{\geq}2$. Consider $\sum_{i=1}^{p}\;f_i(z)^k=1$. Let p be the smallest number of functions that give the above identity. We consider the Fermat-type equation for MAobius transformations and obtain $k{\leq}p{\leq}k+1$.

The T-ideal of F(X) generated by $x^{n}$ for all x $\in$ X, is generated also by the symmetric polynomials. For each symmetric poly-nomial, there corresponds one row of the incidence matrix. Finding the nilpotency of nil-algebra of nil-index n is equivalent to determining the smallest integer N such that the (n, N)-incidence matrix has rank equal to N!. In this work, we show that the (n, (equation omitted)$^{(1,....,n)}$-incidence matrix is center-symmetric.

We use the branching rules on SU(3) to show that if two Aloff-Wallach spaces $M_{k,l}\;and\;M_{k',l'}$ are isospectral for the Laplacian acting on smooth functions, they are isometric. We also show that 1 is the non-zero smallest eigenvalue among all Aloff-Wallach spaces and compute the multiplicities.

A data-adaptive order selection procedure is proposed for local polynomial nonparametric regression. For each given polynomial order, bias and variance are estimated and the adaptive polynomial order that has the smallest estimated mean squared error is selected locally at each location point. To estimate mean squared error, empirical bias estimate of Ruppert (1995) and local polynomial variance estimate of Ruppert, Wand, Wand, Holst and Hossjer (1995) are used. Since the proposed method does not require fitting polynomial model of order higher than the model order, it is simpler than the order selection method proposed by Fan and Gijbels (1995b).
