  • Simplified mathematical formulas are presented to predict deformations during the plate forming process when the heating parameters are given. To obtain the formulas, firstly, the thermal analysis for steel plate is performed, and the thermo-mechanical analysis is followed with actual heating conditions. The analyses have been carried out by the commercial software MARC, which is programmed based on the FEM. Secondary, the results of the mechanical analysis are synthesized with their variables for a statistical approach, which results in simplified formulas. The results of the analysis are well compared with those of experimental measurements.

  • The global performance of various ships estimated by simplified formulae of classification societies is compared with the numerical results by a strip-theory-based whipping analysis program including slamming impact(USLAM). Heave acceleration, pitch angle and the vertical acceleration are compared and the effectiveness of simplified formulae is evaluated. Four different ship models are used for comparison study, which include S175, Flokstra, 6000TEU and 8100TEU container ships. In order to verify the numerical results, the vertical bending moment of S175 is compared with the results of ITTC workshop data.

  • In this paper, we investigate the valuation of vulnerable exchange option that has credit risk of option issuer. The reduced-form model is used to model credit risk. We assume that credit event is determined by the jump of the counting process with stochastic intensity, which follows the mean reverting process. We propose a simple approach to derive the closed-form pricing formula of vulnerable exchange option under the reduced-form model and provide the pricing formula as the standard normal cumulative function.

  • The dual singular function method(DSFM) is a numerical algorithm to get optimal solution including corner singularities for Poisson and Helmholtz equations. In this paper, we apply DSFM to solve heat equation which is a time dependent problem. Since the DSFM for heat equation is based on DSFM for Helmholtz equation, it also need to use Sherman-Morrison formula. This formula requires linear solver n + 1 times for elliptic problems on a domain including n reentrant corners. However, the DSFM for heat equation needs to pay only linear solver once per each time iteration to standard numerical method and perform optimal numerical accuracy for corner singularity problems. Because the Sherman-Morrison formula is rather complicated to apply computation, we introduce a simplified formula by reanalyzing the Sherman-Morrison method.

  • ILM(Incremental Launching Method) bridges pass both the middle of spans and supports during launching. The launching noses are used to minimize the maximum positive moments and negative moments of the superstructure occurring during launching for ILM bridges. In this study, the simplified analysis formula considering diaphragm to calculate the bending moment that occurs during launching is induced and analyzes the optimum design conditions considering diaphragm. The accuracy of the proposed simplified analysis formular compared to the MIDAS Civil has an error of less than 5%. There is a difference up to 13% in the moment between the cases when the diaphragm is considered and is not. In addition, the criteria for deciding the unit weight of equivalent cross section and average stiffness value of equivalent cross section that can be applied to the simplified analysis formula is proposed. In this study, an effective way to optimize the launching nose is proposed that the optimum design is taken in the condition of minimizing the negative moment because of the mechanic characteristic of ILM bridges.

  • ILM(incremental launching method) is a way of construction, installing a girder producing spot behind the abutment, making the bridge girder infilled with concrete continuously and launching with using by jack. The superstructure of the bridge constructed by this method is temporarily located on the center of the span and the supporting points under construction. Therefore, the sections are structurally undergone maximum positive moment, maximum negative moment, and maximum shear force arising from self weight. On the other hand, launching nose is attached to the front of the girder to decrease the cantilever effect. The magnitude of this temporary stress creating on the upper section is dependent upon the launching nose's characteristics. This study has proposed an analysis formula simplified on the assumption that the launching nose section is a quasi-equivalent section(rigid; equivalent section, weight; tapered section) in order to ensure the accuracy of the analysis formula and improve its usage with reference to the interaction between the launching nose and the upper section; and a prismatic analysis formula modified by displacing a diaphragm's weight by a concentrated load in order to improve the accuracy of the existing analysis formula that assumes the launching nose section as the equivalent section. To judge the accuracy and usage of two analysis formulas proposed, we have compared and analyzed computational structural analysis programs and existing analysis formulas based on actual ILM bridge data. As a result, all of two reveal the superior accuracy and also their usage has been improved by the simplification of analysis formulas.

  • A simplified analysis able to point out the most relevant geometrical and aerodynamic parameters that can influence the flutter of long span modern bridges is the aim of the paper. With this goal, by using a continuous model of the suspension bridge and by a quasi stationary approach, a simple formula of the combined vertical/torsional flutter wind speed is given. A good agreement is obtained comparing the predictions from the proposed formula with the flutter speeds of three modern suspension or cable stayed bridges: the Great Belt East Bridge, the Akashi and Normandie bridges. The paper ends with some comments and comparisons with the well known Selberg formula.

  • In this paper, the general formula of disparity estimation based on Bayesian Maximum A Posteriori (MAP) algorithm is derived and implemented with simplified probabilistic models. The probabilistic models are independence and similarity among the neighboring disparities in the configuration. The formula is the generalized probabilistic diffusion equation based on Bayesian model, and can be implemented into the some different forms corresponding to the probabilistic models in the disparity neighborhood system or configuration. And, we proposed new probabilistic models in order to simplify the joint probability distribution of disparities in the configuration. According to the experimental results, the proposed algorithm outperformed the other ones, such as sum of swuared difference(SSD) based algorithm and Scharstein's method. We canconclude that the derived formular generalizes the probabilistic diffusion based on Bayesian MAP algorithm for disparity estimation, and the propsoed probabilistic models are reasonable and approximate the pure joint probability distribution very well with decreasing the computations to 0.01% of the generalized formula.

  • To prevent cargo accidents by repeated loads, a continuous monitoring for securing rope or additional safety measures are needed, but most of prevention measures have been conducted only by operator's own experience not a quantitative assessment. Hence, the Load-Displacement curve and approximation formula of securing rope were drawn in this research for a quantitative assessment and simplified measurement on a tension of securing rope using a tensiometer. Moreover, a com parison was conducted between m easuring tension and calculated tension on securing rope with portable tensiometer, 'Load-Displacement' approximation formula. The calculated tension of securing rope is obtained 153.3kfg using the formula and that result has not much difference with initial tension 150.0kgf. Lastly, an analysis of the characteristics of various ropes was suggested to enhance the reliability about quantitative assessment of securing rope's tension through further research.
