  • Multi-body spacecraft attitude and configuration control formulations based on the use of collaborative control theory are considered. The control formulations are based on two-player, nonzero-sum, differential game theory applied using a Nash strategy. It is desired that the control laws allow different components of the multi-body system to perform different tasks. For example, it may be desired that one body points toward a fixed star while another body in the system slews to track another satellite. Although similar to the linear quadratic regulator formulation, the collaborative control formulation contains a number of additional design parameters because the problem is formulated as two control problems coupled together. The use of the freedom of the partitioning of the total problem into two coupled control problems and the selection of the elements of the cross-coupling matrices are specific problems ad-dressed in this paper. Examples are used to show that significant improvement in performance, as measured by realistic criteria, of collaborative control over conventional linear quadratic regulator control can be achieved by using proposed design guidelines.

  • During the last decade, several papers have focused on linear q-difference equations of the form ${\sum}^n_{j=0}a_j(z)f(q^jz)=a_{n+1}(z)$ with entire or meromorphic coefficients. A tool for studying these equations is a q-difference analogue of the lemma on the logarithmic derivative, valid for meromorphic functions of finite logarithmic order ${\rho}_{log}$. It is shown, under certain assumptions, that ${\rho}_{log}(f)$ = max${{\rho}_{log}(a_j)}$ + 1. Moreover, it is illustrated that a q-Casorati determinant plays a similar role in the theory of linear q-difference equations as a Wronskian determinant in the theory of linear differential equations. As a consequence of the main results, it follows that the q-gamma function and the q-exponential functions all have logarithmic order two.

  • In pattern analysis, dimensionality reduction and reasonable identification rule generation are very important parts. This paper performed effectively the dimensionality reduction by grouping the sensors of which the measured patterns are similar each other, where genetic algorithms were used for combination optimization. To identify the gas type, this paper constructed the hierarchically identifiable rule base with two frames by using rough set theory. The first frame is to accept measurement characteristics of each sensor and the other one is to reflect the identification patterns of each group. Thus, the proposed methods was able to accomplish effectively dimensionality reduction as well as accurate gas identification. In simulation, this paper demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed methods by identifying five types of gases.

  • Based on observation emerged from the undrained tests and the anisotropic consolidation tests, an incremental stress-strain theory for rockfill is proposed in a manner similar to that developed ky Cambridge Group for normally consolidated soils; the volumetric strain due to stress increment is the same as the increment due to an undrained component followed by an increment along the constant stress ratio path. The strains in drained tests are predicted from those in the undrained tests and in the anisotropic consolidation tests. An expression for the undrained stress path is derived based on the bilinear relationship between the pore pressure developed and the stress ratio observed during untrained tests. Good agreement is found between the calculated and measured strains. This trend in behaviour would be helpful in establishing a stress.strain model for rockfill using the elasto-plastic behaviour with the concept of plastic potentials and flow rules.

  • A mushy layer of dendritic crystals is often formed during solidification of a binary mixture. Natural convection in the mushy layer is analyzed by using the propagation theory we have developed. The critical Rayleigh numbers for the onset of convection are evaluated numerically using the self-similar stability equations based on Emms and Fowler's model. The present results approach those from quasi-static stability analysis in the limit of a large superheat or a small growth rate of the mushy layer.

  • This paper describes a novel automated analysis system for bellows of piping system. An automatic finite element (FE) mesh generation technique, which is based on the fuzzy theory and computational geometry technique, is incorporated into the system, together with one of commercial FE analysis codes and one of commercial solid modelers. In this system, a geometric model, i.e. an analysis model, is first defined using a commercial solid modelers for 3-D shell structures. Node is generated if its distance from existing node points is similar to the node spacing function at the point. The node spacing function is well controlled by the fuzzy knowledge processing. The Delaunay triangulation technique is introduced as a basic tool for element generation. The triangular elements are converted to quadrilateral elements. Practical performances of the present system are demonstrated through several analysis for bellows of piping system.

  • Through the theoretical study on Sa-sang constitutional medicine from a evolutionary point of view, the result was obtained as follows. 1. The system of Sa-Sim-Sin-Mul(事心身物) in Sa-sang constitutional medicine is similar to the theory of evolution of Teilhard de Chardin. 2. The concept of Yin and Yang in Sa-sang constitutional medicine can be set up by the demand and necessity in the progress of evolution and the time of the differentiation of functions. 3. The Sung-Jung(性情) of each Sa-sang constitution can be explained as the strategy and form for survival. 4. The theory of physiology, pathology and therapy in Sa-sang constitutional medicine can be hypothesized by the evolutionary standards which are related with the thermo-metabolism and hematopoietic-immune system.

  • On community data. sampled in regular intervals on a long-term basis. artificial neural networks were implemented to extract information on characterizing patterns of community changes. The Adaptive Resonance Theory and Kohonen Network were both utilized in learning benthic macroinvertebrate communities in the Soktae Stream of the Suyong River collected monthly for three years. Initially, by regarding each monthly collection as a separate sample unit, communities were grouped into similar patterns after training with the networks. Subsequently, changes in communities in a sequence of samplings (e.g., two-month, four-month, etc.) were given as input to the networks. After training, it was possible to recognize new data set in line with the sampling procedure. Through the comparative study on benthic macroinvertebrates with these learning processes, patterns of community changes in chironomids diverged while those of the total benthic macro-invertebrates tended to be more stable.

  • By the used of a similar numerical method as in the previous paper, the forming limit stain of coatedsheet metals is investigated in which the FEM is applied and J2G(J/sab 2/-Gotoh's corner theory) is utilized as the plasticity constitutive equation. Coated two-layer sheets and sheets bonded with dissimilar sheets on both surface planes are stetched in a plane-strain atate, with various work-hardening exponent n-values and thicknesses of each layer. Processes of shear-band formation in such composite sheets are clearly illustrated. It is concluded that, in the coated state, the higher limiting strain of one layer is reduced due to the lower limiting stain of the other layer and vice, and does not necessarily obey the rule of linear combination of the limiting stain of each layer weighted according thickness.
