  • This study used response surface methodology (RSM) in an effort to optimize the ultrasoundassisted extraction condition of Camellia sinensis L. and Artemisia argyi mixture in order to increase extraction yield in the extract. The effects of three independent variables, $X_1$ (Mixture ratio, 60-80%), $X_2$ (Ratio of water to raw material, 20~100 mL/g), and $X_3$ (Extraction time, 25-145 min), were investigated at three levels using Box-Behnken design (BBD) to obtain the highest extraction efficiency. Y (Extraction yield) was chosen as dependent variable. Our result showed that the coefficient of determination ($R^2$) of the model was 0.9747, with significant at the level of p < 0.002. Furthermore, the predicted values of each variable were similar to the actual values. The optimum extraction conditions were as follows: mixture ratio of 85.86%, ratio of water to raw material of 92.73 mL/g, and extraction time of 56.52 min. At these conditions, predicted extraction yield was 30.03%. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) indicated a high goodness of model fit and the success of the RSM method for optimizing extraction conditions of Camellia sinensis L. and Artemisia argyi mixture.

  • In this study, finite element analyses of masonry infilled frames using a general purpose FE program, ABAQUS, were conducted. Analysis models consisted of the bare frame, infilled frames with masonry wall thickness of 0.5B and 1.0B, respectively. The masonry walls were constructed using the concrete bricks which were generally used in Korea as infilled wall. The material properties of frames and masonry for the analysis were obtained from material tests. However, four times increased the tensile strength was used for 1.0B wall, which is seemingly due to the differences in locating the bricks. The force-displacement relation and development of crack from the FE analysis were very similar to those from the experiments. From the FEA results, contact force between the frame and masonry, distribution of shear force and bending moments in frame members were analyzed. Obtained contact stress shows a trianglur distribution, and the contact length for 0.5B speciment and 1.0B specimen were close to the value estimated using ASCE 41-06 equation and ASCE 41-13 equation, respectively. Obtained shear force and bending moment distribution seems to replicate actual behavior which originates from the contact stress and gap between the frame and masonry.

  • We measured rare earth element and Zr concentrations of USGS granite standard material GSP-2 and GSJ granite standard material JG-1a to clarify the effect of zircon during rare earth element analysis using ICP-MS. We also measured rare-earth element and zirconium (Zr) contents of zircon from granite by acid-digestion methods using conventional teflon vial and pressure-bomb. The results show that acid-digestion using teflon vial dissolved ca. 50% of zircon compared to pressure-bomb method. The Zr contents of JG-1a and GSP-2 gave ca 50% of reference value. However, rare-earth element abundance of JG-1a and GSP-2 were similar to those of reference values. This suggests that the decomposition degree of zircon might give a negligible effect on a petrological and geochemical interpretation using chondritenormalized REE pattern.

  • Blackgrass and water foxtail are troublesome weeds in a cultivation area of cereals. To know whether water foxtail could substitute for blackgrass as a plant material of screening for the discovery and development of new cereal herbicides, they were compared in a greenhouse and a growth chamber with respect to initial growth characteristics and responses to various herbicides. Blackgrass had a higher germination rate at lower temperature and a higher growth rate at higher temperature as compared to water foxtail. In addition, blackgrass was less sensitive to long day than water foxtail. These results suggest that blackgrass grows better in a cultivation area in spring than water foxtail. As compared to water foxtail, blackgrass showed shightly susceptible responses to herbicides when they were applied to soil surface at one day after seeding. However, the responses to the herbicides of blackgrass and water foxtail were similar with a foliar application of the herbicides at 3 or 4 leaf stage of the plant. Since there were no considerable differences in the herbicidal responses of the two plant species, water foxtail could substitute for blackgrass as a plant material for a primary herbicide screening. When water foxtail was used in a post-emergence screening test, seeding amount of 0.1g/$350cm^2$ and postemergence application of herbicides at 3 to 5 leaf stage were found to be appropriate on the view of alleviating screening efforts in a greenhouse.

  • Effects of packaging material and oxygen absorbant on physical and chemical properties of Yukwu were studied during storage to develop packaging conditions. The packaging materials used were PET/EVOH $(16\;{\mu}m)/PL$ : P1 and PET/EVOH $(24\;{\mu}m)/PL$ : P2 with or without oxygen absorbent (E1A : P1 and E2A : P2 for w/ $O_2$, absorbent, E1EA : P1 and E2EA : P2 for w/o $O_2$, absorbent). Color values for Yukwu indicated that L values of E1A, E1EA, E2A and E2EA were decreased during storage while those b values were increased. Hardness and chewiness of Yukwa were generally decreased, however those of E1A and E1EA were rather increased after 6 weeks of storage. Acid value of E2A had maintained less than 2.0 during 12 weeks of storage. E1A, E2A had the below of 20 in peroxide during 12 weeks. Aroma data by using electronic nose showed that there was no difference after 6 week storage time in different packaging materials. Sensory evaluation (Yukwa odor and rancid odor) showed very similar results with electronic nose one. E2A had the highest value of overall acceptability for sensory evaluation. Hardness and cheweness in physical measurement results had the highest correlation with hardness, crispness, overall-acceptability in sensory evaluation results.

  • The Yeongsheon Sinwoldong three-storied stone pagoda (Treasure No. 465) composed mainly of drusy alkali-granite. The major rock-forming minerals are biotite, quartz, amphiboles, orthoclase and plagioclase. Yellowish brown and black discoloration are formed at the eight sculpture Buddha of the stylobate. A broken rock fragments in the roof material were repaired using epoxy resin and cement mortar in the past. As a result of the infrared thermography analysis from the pagoda, cracks and exfoliation were not serious. Also, P-XRF analysis showed that concentration of Fe (mean 5,599ppm) and S (mean 3,270ppm) were so high in yellowish discoloration parts. Black discoloration area was detected highly Mn (mean 2,155ppm) concentration around the eight sculpture Buddha of the stylobate. The main reason for these are inorganic contaminants from disengaged rock ingredient and organic contaminants from withered plant body. Degree of physical weathering is relatively high in the southern and northern side. The eastern and western side had similar with weathering condition. The northern and eastern side were serious discoloration and biological weathering relatively. Therefore, we suggest that the pagoda need to do cleaning of biological contaminant and conservation treatment to weakened materials of rock and long term monitoring.

  • Fish-frames, which are left after obtaining fillets or muscle during fish processing, consists of useful food components, such as muscle, collagen, calcium, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). This study was carried out to prepare snack using conger eel frame (SF) for human consumption and also to elucidate food component characterization of the snack. The results of volatile basic nitrogen suggested that conger eel frame was a suitable material for preparing snack. Based on the results of sensory evaluation and costs, starch syrup was an optimal sweetener for preparing snack using conger eel frame. The starch syrup-treated SF appeared safe because the moisture content and peroxide value were below the safety limits described in the guideline of Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA). Starch syrup-treated SF was similar in the pattern of fatty acid composition to soybean oil, whereas EPA and DHA were detected in SF. The total content of amino acid in starch syrup-treated SF was 23.9% based on 100 g of raw material. The maj or amino acids were aspartic acid, glutamic acid, glycine and alanine. The total contents of calcium and phosphorus in starch syrup-treated SF were 4.9% and 2.8%, respectively. The Ca/P of starch syrup-treated SF was 1.9, which is a good ratio for absorption of calcium. The SF made with starch syrup was superior in EPA and DHA compositions, total amino acid, calcium and phosphorus contents to commercial snack using eel frame.

  • Crystalline silicon solar cells with $SiN_x/SiN_x$ and $SiN_x/SiO_x$ double layer anti-reflection coatings(ARC) were studied in this paper. Optimizing passivation effect and optical properties of $SiN_x$ and $SiO_x$ layer deposited by PECVD was performed prior to double layer application. When the refractive index (n) of silicon nitride was varied in range of 1.9~2.3, silicon wafer deposited with silicon nitride layer of 80 nm thickness and n= 2.2 showed the effective lifetime of $1,370{\mu}m$. Silicon nitride with n= 1.9 had the smallest extinction coefficient among these conditions. Silicon oxide layer with 110 nm thickness and n= 1.46 showed the extinction coefficient spectrum near to zero in the 300~1,100 nm region, similar to silicon nitride with n= 1.9. Thus silicon nitride with n= 1.9 and silicon oxide with n= 1.46 would be proper as the upper ARC layer with low extinction coefficient, and silicon nitride with n=2.2 as the lower layer with good passivation effect. As a result, the double layer AR coated silicon wafer showed lower surface reflection and so more light absorption, compared with $SiN_x$ single layer. With the completed solar cell with $SiN_x/SiN_x$ of n= 2.2/1.9 and $SiN_x/SiO_x$ of n= 2.2/1.46, the electrical characteristics was improved as ${\Delta}V_{oc}$= 3.7 mV, ${\Delta}_{sc}=0.11mA/cm^2$ and ${\Delta}V_{oc}$=5.2 mV, ${\Delta}J_{sc}=0.23mA/cm^2$, respectively. It led to the efficiency improvement as 0.1% and 0.23%.

  • In order to reduce cooling and heating, which is 40% of the energy consumption of buildings, it is important to improve the insulation of the skin. In order to improve the existing insulation, research is being conducted to apply a vacuum insulation panel(VIP) to buildings. However, VIP cannot be repaired, so we considered the metal vacuum insulation panel. Since the core of the metal vacuum pressure and have low thermal conductivity, foam concrete is adopted. However, preliminary experiments confirmed that the time to reach 0.001torr differs depending on the amount and nature of the bubbles. This effect is determined by the type of foaming agent and the density of the bubble slurry, the vacuum delivery time is determined to be the optimum foam concrete conditions are necessary. Therfore, this study aims to present basic data applicable to core materials by measuring vacuum delivery time and thermal conductivity change according to the foaming agent type and foam slurry density of foam large concrete which is core material of metal vacuum insulation panel. Experimental results and analysis show that compressive strength can be used regardless of the type of foam, In terms of thermal conductivity, it is stable to use vegetable foaming agents at 0.9g/㎤ or less. In terms of the vacuum delivery time, the foaming agent appeared similar regardless of the type of foaming agent, but it is considered suitable to use vegetable foaming agent based on compressive strength and thermal conductivity.
