Analysis of Shorted Turns in Turbine Generator Rotor Windings (터빈 발전기 회전자 권선의 층간단락 분석)

  • Turbine generator(13.8 kV, 137.5 MW) has high bearing vibration at rotation speed. Shorted turns in generator rotor windings have strong correlation with increased field current which is thus related to increase in bearing vibration. The recurrent surge oscillograph (RSO) test is performed on the rotor winding in turbine generator to detect shorted turns. The result of the RSO test indicates that shorted turns of rotor winding are generated in two locations. The RSO test was capable of identifying the presence, number, and location of shorted turns in generator rotor windings.

  • A shorted-turn test was performed at the Pyungtaek combined cycle power plant on gas. turbine generator #4. The test was conducted using a permanent flux probe and digital oscilloscope. The flux probe installed in the generator air gap, senses the field winding slot leakage flux and produces a voltage proportional to the rate of change of the flux. This pattern of flux variation is a signature unique to each field winding. We have also applied a waveform analysis technique that can identify the pole location, slot number, and number of shorted-Turns with each slot.

  • Large generators are subject to high mechanical and electrical stress which may lead to deterioration of the insulation. The rotors, in particular, may develop short circuits particularly and there is a need for the operators to be aware of this situation. In this paper, the electromagnetic characteristics of the generator with shorted turns in rotor field winging is analyzed by FEM and the detection algorithm method of the shorted turn rotor slot position is proposed.

  • Short-circuited can have significant effects on a generator and its performance. One of effective method detecting inter-turn short circuits on round rotor winding is a method using sensor detecting. But the method needs duplicate design of sensor for characteristic change according to types and forms of generator. Thus rotor shorted-turn diagnosis method without sensor is needed for detecting short turn when generator is driven. Diagnosis method without sensor depend on change of electric property in generator For the reason, this paper presents characteristic analysis of shorted-turns in generator by detecting the output voltage of generator.

  • An effective method of detecting inter-turn short circuits on round rotor windings is described. Shorted-turns can have significant effects on a generator and its performance. A method of detecting inter-turn short circuits on rotor windings is described. The approach used is to measure the rate of change of the air-gap flux density wave when the rotor is at operating speed and excitation is applied to the field winding. The inter-turn short circuits sensor for synchronous generator's field winding has been developed. The sensor, installed in the generator air-gap, senses the slot leakage flux of field winding and produces a voltage waveform proportional to the rate of change of the flux. For identification of reliability for sensor, a inter-turn short circuits test was performed at the West-Inchon combined cycle power plant on gas turbine generator and steam turbine generator. This sensor will be used as a detecting of shorted-turn for field winding of synchronous generator. The purpose of this paper is to describe the design and operation of a sensitive inter-turn short circuits detector. In this paper, development of inter-turn short circuits sensor for field winding of synchronous generator and application in a field.

  • In this paper, a winding fault diagnosis method base on MCSA(Motor Current Signature Analysis) for BLDC motor is proposed. This method is programmed by LabVIEW for winding fault diagnosis. For winding fault diagnosis, two types of winding fault(shorted turn at one pole, shorted turn at two pole in same phase) are put intentionally in on phase. The motor current is collected by hole sensor, and transformed by the Park's transform, and then the Park's Vector Pattern are obtained, Usually this pattern is formed an ellipse, so a proper threshold value of distortion ratio(the ratio of the shortest axis and longest axis of ellipse) is suggested for winding faults diagnosis.

Simplified Impedance Modeling and Analysis for Inter-Turn Fault of IPM-type BLDC motor

  • This paper proposes a finite element method (FEM)-based model of an interior permanent magnet (IPM)-type BLDC motor having stator inter-turn faults. We also propose impedance modeling of the magnetic characteristics. By integrating the developed model with a current-controlled voltage source inverter (CCVSI) model, the distributed characteristics of an inter-turn fault operated by a six-switch inverter are investigated considering speed control. Moreover, this paper presents the flux density distribution and torque characteristics for analyzing the inter-turn fault of an IPM-type BLDC motor. Additionally, fault impedance is required to calculate the circulating current that causes magnetic distortion. Thus, this paper proposes a method for estimating the circulating current taking into account the voltage at the shorted turn and the rotating speed. The analysis data were verified experimentally.

  • The flat coil actuator is widely used to make high precision products because it has no friction between the moving coil and the guide. Finite Element Method, a favored actuator design tool due to its high accuracy, was utilized to analyze the electromagnetic actuator, but it consumes a lot of time especially in computation iterations for optimization. Accordingly, the magnetic equivalent circuit analysis can be an alternative tool to FEM because of its computation iteration capability with fair accuracy. In this paper, lumped parameter model and the simulation results are presented. In addition, the result of lumped parameter analysis is compared with those obtained from finite element analysis for verification.
