  • Snakes are objects that appear in religions, folktales, and folktales of various countries, and have had a great influence on human spirit and culture since ancient times. In this study, we focused on the shedding of skin in the ecology of snakes and dealt with related symbols. In the process of shedding its skin, the snake overcomes difficulties and pains, grows, and escapes death to gain a new life. This has the meaning of individuation through the process of psychological transformation by overcoming hardships. This shedding of skin was recognized as a symbol of wisdom, transformation, rebirth, and healing in myths, religions, and folktales, and settled in people's unconscious.

  • Load shedding algorithm has been developed using heuristic search and D.C flow method. The line flow error with a D.C method was improved in this paper. Minimization of load shedding was obtained with heuristic search method. Although analytical method have been mixed with expert algorithm the C language fitted well for this purpose.

  • Variation in seasonal growth, phenology and periodicity in spore shedding in Polysiphonia platycarpa $B{\oslash}rgesen$ occurring on the coast of Visakhapatnam, India, have been described to know the growth behaviour, reproductive periodicity and spore producing capacities. This alga occurs for a short period from December to May in the intertidal region of the Visakhapatnam coast, showing maximum growth during January/February. Tetrasporophytic, carposporophytic and antheridial plants were observed in all months of their occurrence in the field. But the vegetative plants were not seen in January and February and all the plants collected were reproductive. The tetraspore and carpospore shedding was observed during all the six months of their occurrence.

  • An experimental study is performed to investigate the characteristics of vortex shedding behind a circular cylinder with serrated fins using hot-wire anemometer. Strouhal numbers which are calculated using outer diameter of a circular cylinder with serrated fins are higher than that of a circular cylinder. Fin thickness and pitch are closely related with vortex shedding frequency and play increasing or decreasing vortex shedding after transient Reynolds numbers. Strouhal numbers using effective diameters which are proposed in this paper agree with that of a circular cylinder. After transient Reynolds number, a trend of Strouhal number can be estimated by checking the ratio of effective diameter to inner diameter.

  • A Numerical study of laminar vortex-shedding past a circular cylinder has been performed widely by many researchers. Many factors, such as numerical technique and domain size, number and shape of grid, affected predicting vortex shedding and Strouhal number. In the present study, the effect of convection scheme, time discretization methods and grid dependence were investigated. The present paper presents the finite volume solution of unsteady flow past circular cylinder at Re=200, 400. The Strouhal number was predicted using UDS, CDS, Hybrid, Power-law, LUDS, QUICK scheme for convection term, implicit and crank-nicolson methods for time discretization. The grid dependence was investigated using H-type mesh and O-type mesh. It also studied that the effect of mesh size of the nearest adjacent grid of circular cylinder. The effect of convection scheme is greater than the effect of time discretization on predicting Strouhal. It has been found that the predicted Strouhal number changed with mesh size and shape.

  • Recent technology advancement related to computer & communication and measuring devices allows system operators to adopt more intelligent monitoring and control systems to their power systems in order to prevent massive system blackout. Among them, wide-area monitoring and control(WAMAC) system based on synchro-phasor technology has been widely applied to power systems for their own purposes. In this paper, the study on the development of load shedding scheme to improve voltage stability in KEPCO system is introduced. Summary of WAMAC technology being developed and applied in the world through extensive literature survey is proposed. And methodology to develop voltage stability index and multi-step load shedding scheme based on synchro-phasor data is also presented.

  • This paper concerns computational response predictions when a tuned mass damper is intended to be used for the suppression of vortex shedding induced vibrations of e.g., a bridge deck. A general frequency domain theory is presented and its application is exemplified on a suspension bridge (where vortex shedding vibrations have been observed and where such an installation is a possible solution). Relevant load data are taken from previous wind tunnel tests. In particular, the displacement response statistics of the tuned mass damper as well as the bridge deck are obtained from time domain simulations, showing that after the installation of a TMD peak factors between three and four should be expected.

  • Congestion problems of transmission lines are very important research issues in power system operations. Load curtailment is one of the ways to solve congestion problems by a major contingency. A systematic and effective mechanism for load shedding has been developed by investigating congestion distribution factors and the direct load control program. In this paper, a load shedding algorithm using linear programming for congestion problems by a major contingency is presented. In order to show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, it has been tested on the 6-bus sample system and the power system of Korea, and their results are presented.

  • A deep-ocean mining riser pipe is subjected to floating vessel motion as well as environmental forces arising from currents and waves. The dynamic analysis is carried out for a deep-ocean mining riser pipe by using a finite element method. The vortex shedding which excites risers in a direction perpendicular to the flow and induces transverse response is considered. It is demonstrated that transverse displacements due to vortex shedding is greatly increased in lock-in regions. The result of this study is compared with other results having good agreements.

  • When a bulk power system experiences a serious disturbance or heavy load trip, the system frequency may drop and even collapse if the total generating power does not supply the system demand sufficiently. Since an isolated power system possesses a lower inertia and comes with limited reserves, the load shedding by under frequency relay becomes an important strategy to keep system natural frequency. This paper presents a scheme to determine the load shedding criteria by using the rate of change of frequency when the large disturbance happens.
