  • The study aimed to investigate the relation between patriarchal family environment and zero-sum beliefs, and the mediating effect of sexism on the relation based on the Instrumental Model of Group Conflict (Esses et al., 1998). This study also examined the moderating effect of gender on the relation between patriarchal family environment and sexism, and the moderated mediating effect of gender through sexism. Participants were 310 first-year college students (234 males and 76 females) in the college of science and engineering, and they completed a survey consisting of patriarchal family environment, sexism, and zero-sum belief. Data were analyzed using SPSS Macro Process, and the results indicated that the relation between patriarchal family environment and zero-sum beliefs was fully mediated by sexism. In addition, the relation between patriarchal family environment and sexism was moderated by gender. Specifically, patriarchal family environment significantly predicted sexism for men, but not for women. Moreover, only for men, sexism mediated the relation between patriarchal family environment and zero-sum beliefs. Therefore, patriarchal family environment could cause sexism which could promote zero-sum beliefs for men.

Additionally, this study investigated if there exists gender difference in the relations between factors of narcissism and sexual dating violence, and the mediating effects of ambivalent sexism. Based on 200 participants(100 males and 100 females), the mediation effect of ambivalent sexism on the relation between narcissism and sexual dating violence was examined. For male participants, the mediation effect of hostile sexism on the relation between narcissism and sexual dating violence was significant, whereas for female participants the mediation effect of benevolent sexism on the relation between narcissism and sexual dating violence was significant. Different patterns were evident regarding the associations between factors of narcissism and sexual dating violence. For males, the more with exhibitionism and entitlement, the more with hostile sexism, and the more with sexual dating violence. For females, the more with exhibitionism, entitlement, and self-sufficiency, the more with benevolent sexism, and the more with sexual dating violence. The study revealed that the mediation effect of ambivalent sexism between narcissism and sexual dating violence differed by gender and by factors of narcissism. • The purpose of this research is to analyze male oriented military culture and gender discrimination. It examined whether the experience of military service would affect the attitude of Korean college students, gender role identity, and sexism by classifying 317 college students into three groups; males who have completed military service, males who haven't completed military service, and a female group. Research results are as follows: First, in general military experience did not enhance awareness of gender identity nor affect attitudes toward gender discrimination, but significantly enhanced masculinity in some males who completed military service was a major factor in strengthening masculinity and benevolent sexism. Second, males who completed military service and women had a more positive view of the military than males who had yet to serve in the military. Third, regardless of military experience and gender, military experience was perceived to enhance benevolent sexism towards women. Fourth, all three groups showed a strikingly positive correlation in hostile sexism and benevolent sexism. However, they did not show a significant difference in the correlation of groups. Tough these results indicate that deep-rooted gender discrimination in Korean society is enhanced by military experience, it also confirms the significance and impact of the reality of the military ideology.

  • Abusive language used by college students reflects current social attitudes and values. Adopting a comparative and cross-cultural perspective, this study examines the frequency and perceived severity of abusive language in English and Mandarin Chinese. Because abusive language often includes sexual connotations, this paper employs a particular concentration on sexism. Gender differences in the use of abusive language illustrate a male bias across cultures.

  • As female gamers are rapidly increasing, the misogyny and the misandry in game playing situation are also increasing. Recent #Gamergate and GodGunbae incident exhibit that such discriminative/hate behaviour in game playing can be developed into real physical threat or crime. In this paper, we investigate and analyze young Korean game players on how the attackers group, victims group, and gender-issue-indifferent group behave differently in game playing through survey. We found that male gamers had high hostile sexism against female gamers especially on females' game attitude and streotyped hatred with respect to the gender ${\times}$ group interaction. In big-5 personality test, however, it is not clear if attackers and victims had a noticeable different personality patterns. In result, we verify that there exist gender stereotype and high hostile sexism among young Korean gamers. Active gender-equality education on their adolescent period is necessary to avoid such destructive hatred in game playing.

  • In recent years, Japanese style Chinese Moe-tic Ship personification games have enjoyed success in Korean game market - starting from 'Girl's Frontier' in 2017 to recent 'Azur Lane' in 2018. Their 'all female' characters have overly sexual appearance thus young male adults/adolescents are main consumers of the genre. In this paper, we investigate all 300+ character skins of the game 'Azur Lane' on how much their character illustrates have sexual exposure of the female body for the sexism and how their standard attire have different patterns with respect to the affiliated nationalities. We report that the sexual exposure is highly related to the payable skins including swim suits and there exists some sexual stereotype in characters' attire. Japanese and Chinese characters emphasize their traditional Chipao and Kimono. Japanese also wore school uniforms. German characters wore uniforms the most and many British characters wore maiden uniform. Although this game is classified as adult game, its overly sexualized female characters are harmful for young adults to cause sexual objectification of females.
