  • As the importance of strengthening the competency of managers who are in charge of cash collection and disbursement, and preparing for financial statements becomes more visible, this study examined the competency of middle-level managers of accounting department in general hospitals in Korea. Based on the literature, competency was measured by seven components: achievement and action, service, influence, management, cognition, individual effectiveness, and change management. Survey questionnaires included the respondents' perceived importance and performance of each of the seven components of competency. A total of 84 managers from 29 general hospitals responded to the survey between October 2015 and November 2015. Descriptive statistics, mean comparison (t-tests and ANOVAs), and multiple linear regression were conducted. The results of this study are as follows. Overall perceived importance of the competency was 4.16, while the performance was 3.87, and thus, the difference was 0.29. Among the seven components of the competency, cognition and change management had higher scores in terms of difference between the importance and performance. The regression analyses found that female managers had higher perceived importance and performance of competencies in achievement and action, and influence compared to male counterparts. In addition, participants in this study responded that main reasons for the gap between the perceived importance and performance are low compensation, lack of support, lack of knowledge, insufficient technical experience, excessive workload, and regulations. The results of this study can be used when designing capacity building training opportunities for the hospital accounting department. Also, the managers may evaluate themselves and look at the areas where they can narrow the gap between the perceived importance and performance of the competency that is required for today's leading managers.

  • The purposes of this study was to identify the level of satisfaction with the food quality in a company cafeteria located in Daejon. 400 people were given questionnaires, of which 341 questionnaires were returned for analysis (90.25% response rate). Our results show, 85.63% of customers eat at the cafeteria more than 3~4 times per week. 48.68% of people surveyed chose their meal based on the proximity when they enter the cafeteria. 39.59% said the most important factor for eating at the cafeteria was taste. 33.72% said it was quality. The type of food that was leftover the most was 'Guk' (soup). 52.20% said 'Guk' was leftover due to the awful taste. Food quality (34.60%) and taste (34.02%) required the most improvement according to those surveyed. Additionally, we divided food quality into 3 factors: 'sanitation & service', 'food', and 'menu composition'. People who marked down 'no other place to eat' was the reason they ate at the cafeteria also had the lowest satisfaction scores across all items (p<0.001). Improving the 'Guk' and 'meat' was rated as the most important criteria to improve satisfaction with leftover food. Unsurprisingly, the 'taste' of leftover food had the lowest satisfaction scores. Those who had the lowest quality satisfaction scores also wanted to improve 'taste', 'quality' and 'sanitation' the most (p<0.001). Based on these findings, the foodservice manager can increase the overall satisfaction with the cafeteria food by focusing on improving the taste, quality and sanitation of the food that it serves.

  • Recently, the renewable energy resources play an important role as an energy resources of future due to an environmental pollution and lack of resources and so on. The development and diffusion of information systems related to renewable energy resources have been driven actively abroad. However, at domestic an efficient history management for renewable energy resource data and web retrieve service are not provided. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a history data management system for the renewable energy resources, which stores and manages vast history information of renewable energy resource data systematically. This system collects renewable energy resource data in the outside observation system and stores them in the history database. The stored Information is retrieved through the history query process and can be provided in various forms - table, graph, chart and counter line, etc. - on the internet. Especially, the proposed system manages the history data in real-time so the latest information is always provided to the users through the web interface.

  • Since automatic social engineering based spam attacks induce for users to click or receive the short message service (SMS), e-mail, site address and make a relationship with an unknown friend, it is very easy for them to active in online social networks. The previous spam detection schemes only apply manual filtering of the system managers or labeling classifications regardless of the features of social networks. In this paper, we propose the spam detection metric after reflecting on a couple of features of social networks followed by analysis of real social network data set, Twitter spam. In addition, we provide the online social networks based unsupervised scheme for automated social engineering spam with self organizing map (SOM). Through the performance evaluation, we show the detection accuracy up to 90% and the possibility of real time training for the spam detection without the manager.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the information about the disaster temporary shelter space planning guidance described in the U.S. shelter guidelines in terms of the habitability for disaster victims and to address the implications and potential impacts of its findings for the improvement of the shelter design standards and guidelines in Korea. The researchers reviewed four federal and non-governmental organization shelter field and design guidelines and attributes regarding the shelter space planning were classified in accordance with four habitability categories: Safety, Health, Convenience, and Comfort. Three major findings emerged from this study: 1)A total of 72 items about the shelter space planning were extracted from guidelines, and the majority of items are concerned with dormitory areas and sanitary spaces. Other items were about accessibility, children respite care area, signage, health service areas, food preparation and serving areas, parking and drop-off areas, registration and waiting areas, shelter manager and staff areas, lounge and storage areas, and household pets area. 2)Most of these items are strongly related to the convenience category(66.7%), followed by comfort(40.3%), safety(30.6%), and health(25.0%). 3)The habitability of the disaster temporary shelter can be established with considerations on the needs of disaster victims and vulnerable people, minimum occupancy space per person, separate sanitary spaces for the privacy, safe and convenient access routes to the shelter, and the provision of children areas for safety and comfort. The study findings will contribute to the development of the disaster shelter guidelines in Korea by suggesting shelter space planning indicators related to the habitability for the governmental and non-governmental organizations' immediate and systematic responses to the disaster.

  • Purpose: To develop staffing levels for nursing personnel (registered nurses and nursing assistants) to provide inpatients with integrated nursing care that includes, in addition to professional nursing care, personal care previously provided by patients' families or private caregivers. Methods: A time & motion study was conducted to observe nursing care activities and the time spent by nursing personnel, families, and private caregivers in 10 medical-surgical units. The Korean Patient Classification System-1 (KPCS-1) was used for the nurse manager survey conducted to measure staffing levels and patient needs for nursing care. Results: Current nurse to patient ratios from the time-motion study and the survey study were 1:10 and 1:11, respectively. Time spent in direct patient care by nursing personnel and family/private caregivers was 51 and 130 minutes per day, respectively. Direct nursing care hours correlated with KPCS-1 scores. Nursing personnel to patient ratio required to provide integrated inpatient care ranged from 1:3.9 to 1:6.1 in tertiary hospitals and from 1:4.4 to 1:6.0 in general hospitals. The functional nursing care delivery system had been implemented in 38.5% of the nursing units. Conclusion: Findings indicate that appropriate nurse staffing and efficient nursing care delivery systems are required to provide integrated inpatient nursing care.
