Life Satisfaction and Consumer Satisfaction of Resident Foreigners in Korea (국내거주외국인의 생활만족도와 소비생활만족도에 관한 연구)

  • This study investgates the factors influencing the levels of consumer satisfaction and life satisfaction of resident foreigners in Korea. The data were collected through a structured self-administered survey and 545 foreigners who lived in Korea for more than 3 months, with age over 20 participated as respondents. A research framework was formulated based on the resource constraint hypothesis and the study investigated the impact of information resource(human, media and internet information source) and consumer resource(monthly income, language ability and consumer proficiency) on the levels of consumer satisfaction and life satisfaction. The results from data analysis can be summarized as follows; First, analysis of consumer problems of resident foreigners in Korea indicated that resident foreigners recognize a burden for residence cost, food expense and education fee. Most of resident foreigners in Korea are found to use small local shops most often indicating they may experience adverse market environment due to resource constraint such as language or psychological barrier, and most of the respondents answered that the most often used payment method was cash. Furthermore, resident foreigners in Korea responded that lack of language service, lack of information provision, inability to use certain goods and services are the common cause of consumer dissatisfaction, as well as price and quality problems. Second, the level of consumer satisfaction (2.96 in 4.0) is higher than the level of life satisfaction (2.63 in 4.0). Third, the level of life satisfaction is significantly influenced by Korean language ability and the level of consumer satisfaction. The level of consumer satisfaction is by the media information source usage and consumer claim experience. Fourth, the level of consumer satisfaction is found to be the variable with the strongest causal relationship with the level of life satisfaction.

The Development of Social Inclusion.Exclusion Indicators - Focused on the Permanent Rental Apartment Dwellers - (사회적 통합.배제 지표 개발을 위한 연구 - 영구임대아파트 거주자를 중심으로 -)

  • This study was to develop the indicators for understanding social inclusion exclusion of the dwellers living in permanent rental apartment, and to present a important base about priority order of national housing policy for social inclusion. The ultimate purpose of this study was to provide basic information for the development of permanent rental apartment renewal techniques. The first phase of the study was to review of the social inclusion exclusion indicators mentioned in the literature. The indicators of EU (2001, 2006), KIHASA (2005), and Jehoel-Gijsbers & Brooman (2007), which were applied in many studies about social inclusion, or included various items about dwellers' subjective attitudes, were selected to construct the framework for the study. On the basis of 3 kinds of indicators at the above, the dimensions of social inclusion exclusion were categorized as material deprivation and access to social rights in an economicstructural exclusion view, and social participation and cultural normative accommodations in a socio-cultural exclusion view. And then, the domains of social inclusion exclusion were decided as follows: income, employment, education service, housing, health, family networks and social networks. The detail contents of indicators were adopted from the prior studies as many as possible, and the dwellers' subjective attitudes and housing domains were intensified with reference to UN housing rights and the study of "residents' satisfaction of housing facilities living in permanent rental housing". The developed indicators were modified through the advisory committee that consist of the specialists from the various fields of studies. The final indicators that were overlapped or not able to be measured were eliminated, and added, in a housing domain, the standards of convenient facilities, the management condition, safety, location, crime and etc. in the apartment complex, which were required to complement in the advisory committee.

Economic assessment of Cibodas botanical garden as environment and human health service-based ecotourism object

  • Nowadays, many people suffer from stress because of their jobs, studies, traffic, etc. Daily stress may cause many diseases (Garrett, 1991). One of the methods for reducing stress is experiencing a natural environment (Frumkin, 2001). Cibodas botanical garden (CBG) is one of the most famous travel destinations in Bogor, Indonesia. CBG has the potential for tourism activities. However, an economic assessment is required to verify their sustainability. The research objectives of this study were to identify the characteristics of tourism utilization in CBG, to analyze the economic tourism value of CBG, and to measure the effectiveness of traveling to a natural environment for reducing stress. The research method used was the survey. This study used three data analysis methods: (1) descriptive analysis which was used to identify the characteristics of tourists, (2) travel cost method (TCM), and (3) contingent valuation method (CVM). Results showed some differences in the characteristics of foreign and domestic tourists respondents in age, educational background, income level, number of dependents, and the frequency of their visits. CBG has a high economic value, amounting to IDR (Indonesian Rupiah) 5,508,932,605,405 or approximately USD (United State Dollar) 413,000,000. WTP (Willingness to Pay) of domestic tourist respondents was IDR 29,702 or USD 2.2 per visit, while the value of foreign tourist respondents reached IDR 39,700 or USD 2.9 per visit. Respondents found it preferable to pay more for tickets (WTP value) than to buy medication to reduce their stress.

Stakeholder's Demand for School Breakfast Programs in High School at Chungcheong Areas (충청지역 고등학교 학교급식 관계자의 아침급식 요구도)

  • The purpose of this study is to observe students' eating habits and to evaluate the necessity of high school breakfast service by surveying concerned persons such as high school dietitians, parents, and students to find practical solutions to decrease the breakfast-skipping rate of the high school students in Chungcheong. The data were collected from 75 dietitians, 584 students, and 420 parents. Parents and students participated the survey more positively, and the more monthly income participants' families had, the probability of participation increased by 1.5 times (OR=1.452). Parents suggested that breakfast should be offered at a lower price (1,000~2,000 won) than school lunch, and for the school breakfast cost, they preferred to bear the expense together with schools. For the type of breakfast, the dietitians preferred convenient foodservice (40.0%), the students preferred simple meals such as bread, milk, fruit and salad (3.97), and Kimbap, Joomukbap et al (3.93) rather than Korean traditional foods (3.76) such as rice, soup and side dish. The dietitians answered 'needed' and 'very much needed' to the necessity of breakfast relatively low by 30.7%. As the result of the study, the researchers suggest the execution of school breakfast program should start first for the students who cannot have breakfast at home. Moreover, more studies should be conducted to reduce the constantly increasing rate of breakfast-skipping rate of high school students.

Ecotourism Planning Framework for Korean Rural Communities(I) - A Case Study in Jeongdori, Wandogun, Korea - (농어촌지역의 생태관광지 육성을 위한 계획모형(I) - 전남 완도군 정도리지역에서의 사례연구 -)

  • Ecotourism has surged from conflicts between negative impacts of mass tourism and environmental issues. As an alternative tourism, ecotourism compromises extensively environmental, economic, educational, and cultural concerns. Ecotourism can be defined as environment-based tourism that ensures sustainable growth and development through conservation of natural and human environment, promotion of regional economy, and provision of tourism service in natural environment areas. Ecotourism should consider two key challenges; an effective means that may protect local economy through tourist-based income and improvement of residential circumstances, and role as leisure space that can improve tourist's experiences. The purpose of this study was to summarize ecotourism concepts through literature search and develop an ecotourism planning framework for Korean rural communities. In addition, developed planning framework in this study was applied to Jeongdori area, Wandogun, Korea as a case study in order to analyze its feasibility. A trial application in Jeongdori area demonstrated a possibility that ecotourism planning framework can be successfully adopted to a wide range of Korean rural communities. To ensure objectivity of framework, systematic case studies must be done in the future.

The Catalogue and Online-Order Apparel Shoppers Impulsive Purchase Orientation and Impulsive Purchase Stimuli (의류 통신판매 이용자의 충동구매 성향과 충동구매 자극)

  • The purposes of this study were to find out the catalogue and online-order apparel shoppers' impulsive purchase orientation and impulsive purchase stimuli. Self-administered questionnaires were distributed to women over than 20 years, and collected from middle to the end of November in 2000. Frequencies, percentages, and mean were calculated. One-way ANOVA, chi-square test, factor analysis, and cluster analysis were used, and Duncan's Multiple Range test was followed. 1. Factors of impulsive purchase orientation were relax from negative moods, design property, inducement from neighbors, taste congruence, price property of apparel, positive moods, and loose-control, and were segmented into the low impulsive purchaser, the reasonable purchaser, the fulfilled with positive moods, and the high impulsive purchaser. The factors of impulsive purchase stimuli were apparel property, consumer service, sales promotion on the point of sales, and low price. 2. The low impulsive Purchaser was affected little by impulsive purchase stimuli, spent a little money on apparel, and the married with high education level were the most. The reasonable purchaser was affected by sales promotion on the point of sales or low price, spent a little money on apparel, and students or house-wives were the most The fulfilled with positive moods was affected by low price, and students or career women with high education level were the most, but spent less money on apparel. The high impulsive purchaser was affected by various impulsive purchase stimuli, the young unmarried with high education level were the most, and spent more money on apparel. 3. The younger, the unmarried, students or career women, and shoppers with higher income or apparel expenditure showed a higher impulsive purchase tendency for relax from negative mood, design property, for inducement from neighbor, taste congruence, and positive moods. 4. The older, the married, house wives, and shoppers with higher apparel expenditure were stimulated by apparel property or consumer services.

The Effect of Consumers' Knowledge and Attitude on Purchase Intention Toward Local Foods: Focus on Mediating Effect of Attitude (로컬푸드의 소비자 지식과 태도가 구매의도에 미치는 효과: 로컬푸드 태도의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • This study evaluated the effect of consumers' knowledge and attitude toward to local foods on purchase intention. The study data were collected through a three-week online survey of 500 household food purchasers who had bought local foods within the previous year. The results are as follows. First, examining the difference in the knowledge of local foods according to socio-demographic variables revealed that married people had more knowledge of local foods than singles according to marital status, and college graduates and higher had more knowledge than high school graduates and lower according to education level. Second, as a result of examining the difference in attitudes towards local foods according to socio-demographic variables, married people more than single people according to marital status, people in their 30s more than those in their 20s according to age and college graduates and higher more than high school graduates and lower according to education level had more positive attitudes towards local foods. Third, as a result of examining the difference in consumers' purchase intention towards local foods according to socio-demographic variables, according to age, and housewives had the lowest purchase intention towards local foods according to occupation. (Ed- I cannot understand: the section 'according to socio-demographic variables, according to age, and housewives had' is confused) People engaged in office/specialized/managerial jobs and those engaged in production/sales/service had the highest purchase intention. In regard to monthly average income, households that made less than KRW 4 million had the lowest purchase intention, and those that made KRW 4-8 million had the highest purchase intention. Fourth, the knowledge of local foods affected attitudes towards local foods. Fifth, attitudes towards local foods affected consumers' purchase intention. In other words, people with positive attitudes towards local foods had higher purchase intention.

  • This study aimed to investigate the extent of risks perceived by consumers in terms of health and economy while using cellular phone services. In addition, it also examined the factors influencing the level of risks and their effects on the level of satisfaction after using it. Major findings were as follows. First, the level of perceived risks were higher for married consumers. Consumers with high income felt economic risks lowly. Second, perceived economic risks influenced the level of satisfaction after using cellular phone, but not perceived health risks. Third, overall, consumers who rely on objective information source, possess high credibility on their cellular phone service companies, and own high level of knowledge how to properly use those phones, were more satisfied after using it.

Factors Related to the Self-Rated Health Status among Korean Elderly - Analysis of the 2016 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey - (한국노인의 주관적 건강상태 인식 관련 요인 - 2016 국민건강영양조사 자료 분석 -)

  • This study examined the sociodemographic factors, health-related habits, chronic diseases, dietary habits, and nutrient intake according to the self-rated health status in a group aged over 65 years by analyzing the nationally representative Korean survey data. A total of 1,510 subjects were analyzed among the participants of the 2016 Korean National Health and Examination Survey (KNHANES). Statistical analyses for complex samples were performed using the SPSS software package (version 19.0) The study subjects were divided into two groups (healthy group vs. unhealthy group) based on their self-rated health status. The percentage of the healthy group was 66.5%. Gender, age, education level, household income, job (P<0.001, respectively), marital status, and basic living allowance (P<0.05, respectively) were significant sociodemographic variables of the self-rated health status. Alcohol consumption (P<0.01), aerobic physical activity, stress, quality of life, not feeling very well, depression and activity restriction (P<0.001, respectively) were also significant health-related variables of the self-rated health status. Blood glucose, anemia (P<0.05, respectively), and chewing problems (P<0.001) were significant chronic disease-related variables of the self-rated health status. Adequate intakes of protein, dietary fiber, phosphorus, thiamin, niacin, vitamin C (P<0.001, respectively), calcium, sodium, potassium (P<0.01, respectively), iron, vitamin A, and riboflavin (P<0.05, respectively) were also significant variables of the self-rated health status. In complex samples multiple logistic regression analysis, the self-rated health status was influenced significantly by the aerobic physical activity (P<0.01), stress level (P<0.05), depression (P<0.001), quality of life (P<0.001), not feeling very well (P<0.001), activity restriction (P<0.001), chewing problem (P<0.05), and adequate intake of iron (P<0.05). These results suggest that activity restriction, mental health, adequate iron intake, and physical activity may be associated with the self-rated health status in the elderly.

  • Most of existing studies about employment of people with disabilities have regarded the disabled groups as only one group which has different characteristics respectively. In fact, each of the disabled groups have several peculiarities of their own. So government or policy makers must regard the disabled group as different groups which have their own characteristics(example : education level, house income, wage, working hours, satisfaction level for their job, disability type and degree, service year in a firm, etc) for promoting employment of the disabled effectively and keeping their job continuously. In this study, we examine and verify the existence of segmentations in Korea labor market of the disabled according to their different education level & sex by using MDFA(Multiple Discriminant Function Analysis technique) and seek solutions for easing those segmentations.
