A note on the sample size determination of sequential and multistage procedures

  • We particularly emphasized how to determine the number of replications with sequential and multistage procedures. So, the t-test is used to achieve some predetermined level of accuracy efficiently with loss function in the case of normal, chi-squared, an exponential distributions. We provided that the relevance of procedures are sequential procedure, two-stage procedure, modified two-stage procedure, three-stage procedure and accelerated sequential procedure. Monte Carlo simulation is carried out to obtain the stopping sample size that minimizes the risk.

  • This paper deals with developing a general class of accelerated sequential procedures and obtaining the associated second-order approximations for the expected sample size and 'regret' (difference between the risks of the proposed accelerated sequential procedure and the optimum fixed sample size procedure) function. We establish that the estimation problems based on various lifetime distributions can be tackled with the help of the proposed class of accelerated sequential procedures. Extensive simulation analysis is presented in support of the accuracy of our proposed methodology using the Pareto distribution and a real data set on carbon fibers is also analyzed to demonstrate the practical utility. We also provide the brief details of some other inferential problems which can be seen as the applications of the proposed class of accelerated sequential procedures.

  • 윤리적 또는 경제적 이유 때문에 임상실험(Clinical Trials)의 연구자들은 실험중간에 새로운 치료방법이나 약이 효과가 있는지 또는 해로운지를 반복해서 검정한다. 하지만 각 검정마다 정해진 유의수준을 반복해서 사용하면 전체 유의수준이 상당히 커지게 된다. 임상실험에서 발생하는 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위하여 많은 집단측정검정법 (Group Sequential Testing Procedure)들이 개발되어 왔다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 집단측정검정법들을 간략하게 비교분석하고자 한다.

  • We consider the question of efficiency of the Bayes sequential procedure with respect to the optimal fixed sample size Bayes procedure in a simple vs. simple testing problem for data coming from a general nonregular density b(.theta.)h(x)l(x < .theta.). Efficiency is defined in two different ways in these caiculations. Also, the minimax sequential risk (and minimax sequential stratage) is studied as a function of the cost of sampling.

Fixed-accuracy confidence interval estimation of P(X > c) for a two-parameter gamma population

  • The gamma distribution is a flexible right-skewed distribution widely used in many areas, and it is of great interest to estimate the probability of a random variable exceeding a specified value in survival and reliability analysis. Therefore, the study develops a fixed-accuracy confidence interval for P(X > c) when X follows a gamma distribution, Γ(α, β), and c is a preassigned positive constant through: 1) a purely sequential procedure with known shape parameter α and unknown rate parameter β; and 2) a nonparametric purely sequential procedure with both shape and rate parameters unknown. Both procedures enjoy appealing asymptotic first-order efficiency and asymptotic consistency properties. Extensive simulations validate the theoretical findings. Three real-life data examples from health studies and steel manufacturing study are discussed to illustrate the practical applicability of both procedures.

Stochastically Dependent Sequential Acceptance Sampling Plans

  • In a traditional sequential acceptance sampling plan, it is assumed that the sampled items are independent each other. In this paper, stochastically dependent sequential acceptance sampling plans are dealt when there exists dependency between sampled items. Monte-Calro algorithm is used to find the acceptance and rejection probabilities of a lot. The number of defectives for the test to be accepted and rejected in probability ratio sequential test can be found by using these probabilities. The formula for measures of performance of these sampling plans is developed. Type I and II error probabilities are estimated by simulation. This research can be a, pp.ied to sequential sampling procedures in place of control charts where there is a recognized and necessary dependency during the production processes. Also, dependent multiple acceptance sampling plans can be derived by extending this sequential sampling procedure. As a numerical example, a Markov dependent process model is given, and the characteristics of the sampling plans are examined according to the change of the dependency factor.

Nonparametric Procedures for Finding Minimum Effective Dose in a One-Way Layout

  • When the lowest dose level compared with zero-dose control has significant difference in effect, it is referred as minimum effective dose (MED). In this paper, we discuss several nonparametric methods for finding MED using updated rank at each sequential test step in small sample size and suggest new nonparametric procedures based on placement. Monte Carlo Simulation is adapted to compare power and Familywise Error Rate(FWE) of the new procedures with those of discussed nonparametric tests for finding MED.

  • 시대의 흐름에 따라 예술의 범위는 점차 확장되어왔다. 과학 기술 또한 미디어아트라는 이름으로 예술에 기여하게 되었고, 예술가와 기술자는 협업의 관계로 이어지게 되었다. 이러한 배경을 바탕으로 예술에서의 협업의 의미를 알아보고 미디어아트의 한 분야인 프로젝션 맵핑을 중심으로 사례를 분석하였다. 특히 본 연구에서는 순차협업형 프로젝션 맵핑 작품의 콘셉트와 제작 프로세스를 제안하고 작품 제작과 전시 과정을 하나의 실험으로 보았다. 이를 토대로 작품제작 사례를 통해 순차협업 절차를 정의하고, 협업에 필요한 기반기술과 절차를 제시하였다. 제시한 기술과 절차는 일종의 플랫폼으로써 프로젝션 맵핑 전시와 페스티벌 등에 적용할 수 있다. 또한 이러한 과정에서 예술가와 기술자의 협업 관계, 작품에서의 크레딧 문제 등을 되짚어보았다.

  • $Fr{\ddot{a}}nkel$ functional regulator have a complicated design and are of a big bulk. This makes not only the construction of appliance but also the adaption of a patient to the appliance very difficult. Therefore, orthodontic laboratory technicians should be well acquainted with the sequential fabrication procedures involved in the construction of Frankel functional regulators and construct a type most suitable for a specific patient of malocclusion. There are various types of Frankel appliances. Detailed construction procedures of FR II are described here below, which can also be applied for other types for FR appliances.

  • The purposes of this study are to investigate the conformity of Korean Standards(KS) according to agreement on WTO/TBT, and to propose systematic frameworks of preparation, adoption, and application for KS in our enterprises. Significant changes in this establishment, revision, and abrogation include the following divisions; i) statistics-vocabulary and symbols, ii) Shewhart control chart, iii) statistical interpretation of data, iv) sampling procedures for inspection by attributes, v) sequential sampling plans for inspection.
