  • This study was conducted to investigate the relationship among character, nursing professionalism, self-efficacy and self-directed learning ability of nursing students as well as to identify the factors influencing self-directed learning ability. Data were collected from May 22 to June 8, 2017 using a self-report questionnaire and questionnaires from 396 nursing students in J Province. The data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test, Dunnett's T3 test, Pearson's correlation coefficient and hierarchical regression analysis. The mean scores of character, nursing professionalism, self-efficacy and self-directed learning ability were $3.93{\pm}0.47$, $3.83{\pm}0.48$, $3.53{\pm}0.59$ and $3.63{\pm}0.51$, respectively. Character, nursing professionalism, and self-efficacy were positively correlated with self-directed learning ability. The factors influencing self-directed learning ability of nursing students were participation in class, satisfaction with major, awareness of self-initiated life, self-control, will and competence, habit, and self-efficacy, nursing professionalism had no significant effect. Based on these findings, programs that develop character, self-efficacy, and nursing professionalism are necessary for nursing students to promote self-directed learning ability.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a lesson plan related to a simulation for nursing students by understanding what relationship learning satisfaction, self-efficacy and learning attitude have after applying simulation-based education on emergency nursing care. Methods: Simulation practice, seminar, class and group self-study about a patient having a myocardial infarction were applied to nursing students for 5 weeks. After applying the simulation-based education on emergency nursing care, students rated their learning attitude, learning satisfaction and a sense of self-efficacy with a self-administered questionnaire and academic achievement was divided into written and performance evaluation. SPSS/WIN 17.0 was used for descriptive analysis, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA and pearson correlation were also used. Results: In this study, the performance evaluation score was related to learning attitude (r=.210, p=.018).Learning satisfaction (r=.220, p=.013)and written evaluation score was related to learning attitude (r=.211, p=.017) and learning satisfaction (r=.190, p=.032). Conclusion: In this study, simulation-based learning was a useful method for practical ability and this is good to acquire both of knowledge and technique. Not only evaluation of theoretical knowledge but performance ability related to practice has to be done by developing lessons with various methods and content. In addition, a standard evaluation method needs to be developed.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this research was to evaluate the application of the Problem-Based Learning(PBL) in nursing with regard to the learning process and learning outcomes. Method: PBL modules were provided to the students so that they could identify the nursing problems related to nutrition, regulation, and elimination, and implement appropriate nursing interventions according to the problems. PBL was also used to develop ability to use self-evaluation for nursing intervention outcomes. The modules were developed by the authors for the course, Nursing 1(3 credits) at Y university, and used during one semester, March to June 2003. Evaluation of the learning process and learning outcomes was done by self-report questionnaires and a semi-structured self -report developed by the authors. Result: The PBL evaluation included role of the facilitators, group work process, and self-directed learning attitude. The students evaluated the facilitator's role positively in fostering positive interactions and cooperative study among students and stimulating students to apply various problem-solving strategies. Students evaluated their own group work performances as a good opportunity to improve their group work participation, contribution, cooperation, and leadership through the PBL session. Their responsibility for their own learning and develop self-directed learning attitudes to connect present learning to long-term goals. Conclusion: Critical thinking, problem solving skills, self-directed learning and group work accomplishments in undergraduate student nurses were fostered and improved through the PBL program.

  • The purpose of the study is to develop an online measurement scale for diagnosing self-directed learning ability for students in Korea. In order to achieve the goal, literature review, case analyses, and experts interview were carried out and finalized the blended-learning based SMMIS model. A total of 1,626 elementary, middle and high school students participated in the scale survey to validate the credibility and validity. Based on these results, an online measurement tool for self-directed learning was developed. The tool can be used in blended-learning environment to maximize its effectiveness. In conclusion, we discussed about implications and strategies for the blended-learning based on self-directed learning program model for young students, and suggested future vision and further research.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the need of college students for experiential learning, collaborative learning, and enquiry-based learning. To achieve this goal, a survey was conducted with 308 college students. The need for experience, collaboration, and enquiry-based learning was comprehensively analyzed through t-tests, Borich needs analysis, and priority determination using The Locus for Focus model. The research findings are as follows: First, in Borich need analysis, the highest needs were identified for deep learning, self-directed learning, connecting theoretical knowledge with practical application, immersion, and application to real-life situations. Second, in The Locus for Focus model, the highest needs were found for abstract conceptualization, interest, conflict management, self-directed learning, and curiosity. In summary, since self-directed learning showed the highest priority simultaneously in Borich need analysis and The Locus for Focus model, it should be considered as the most prioritized item.

  • A knowledge-based society values creative and independent individuals. This study depicts operational approaches to the effective utilization of school libraries as teaching/learning media center in order to support independent learning in relation to the way in which constructivist teaching-learning(CTL) improves learners' self-learning abilities. The result of this study seems to imply that self-learning based on constructivism is possible only when school libraries are managed as teaching/learning media centers and that the more variety there is in learning materials and when more direct interaction exists, there is more creativity and self-learning abilities are achieved in the learning process.

  • In many papers, item difficulty does apply to the E-Learning system for advance learning effect. But there have to need item revision difficulty for more correct item difficulty. Also, there have to support self-directed learning process which learner can make plan and operate learning progress. In this research, I developed self-directed E-Learning system using item revision difficulty. For efficiency of system development, il is implemented and composited by component based development. In the applied result, it was able to support more correct item revision difficulty to learner. And I displayed efficiency of operation the component based self-directed learning system.

  • In the post-pandemic era, colleges and students keep passion for learning online sine its unique advantages. This study explores how students' basic psychological needs drawn from self-determination theory, connect to interaction, and learning engagement in the context of online learning. While prior research explored students' intentions, digital interactions, and engagement in online learning, this study aims to come up with a united conceptual model drawing the three basic psychological needs and interaction and their effects on learning engagement. 178 response data collected through a questionnaire survey, were analyzed using PLS-SEM. Findings indicate that online learning interaction enhances intrinsic motivation, leading to higher learning engagement. Autonomy emerges as the most influential psychological need on learning engagement. This study integrates self-determination theory with online learning interactions and engagement and offers practical insights. Future research should examine long-term outcomes and diverse student populations.

  • A fuzzy dynamic learning controller is proposed and applied to control of time delayed, non-linear and unstable chemical processes. The proposed fuzzy dynamic learning controller can self-adjust its fuzzy control rules using the external dynamic information from the process during on-line control and it can create th,, new fuzzy control rules autonomously using its learning capability from past control trends. The proposed controller shows better performance than the conventional fuzzy logic controller and the fuzzy self organizing controller.
