Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of body image, self-esteem, and behavior problems comparing children of short stature and children of normal height, and to enhance growth development through early detection of social or emotional problems in children of short stature. Methods: The data were collected from June 2 to September 25, 2008. The participants were 38 children who were diagnosed with short stature and their mothers and 38 children of age appropriate stature and their mothers selected from 311 elementary students in D city. The participants were matched by using propensity analysis for controlling confounding variables. Sapiro-Wilk test, t-test, Wilcoxon test, and Pearson correlation coefficients with SPSS/WIN 14.0 program were used to analyze the data. Results: There were significant differences in body image and behavior problems between children of short stature and children of age appropriate stature. There was no significant difference in self-esteem between the two groups. Positive correlation was found between body image and self-esteem. In children of age appropriate stature, a negative correlation was found between body image and behavior problems. Conclusion: A specialized program which focuses on behavior problems, body image, and self-esteem should be developed to help children of short stature in school-based settings.
Purpose: In this study, an attempt was made to identify the extent of dental technicians' perception of professionalism and examine to what extent the perception of professionalism impacts self-development and professionalism improvement activities. Methods: An online survey was conducted for 391 dental technicians for 20 days (i.e., from October 20 to November 10, 2020). Pearson's correlation analysis was performed to examine the correlation between the independent variable and the dependent variable, and multiple regression analysis was performed to analyze the degree of influence of independent variables on self-development and professionalism improvement activities. Results: As a result of examining the impact of dental technicians' perception of professionalism on self-development and professionalism improvement activities, it was revealed that all four subareas of the perception of professionalism, i.e., professional qualification, professional autonomy, social perception, and the sense of calling, were positively impacted. Conclusion: (1) It is necessary to compare and analyze the differences in the perception of professionalism among various dental technologist groups, prepare programs to improve them, and endeavor to ensure the growth of organizational operating system. (2) Self-development and professionalism improvement activities need to be supported so that dental technologists can immerse themselves in their duties with affections for the organization and contemplate and provide educational programs to workers.
The study aimed to understand medical students' experiences of emotional changes, including their method of adapting to experiences, and the effect of the experiences in shaping their identities. We interviewed 12 medical students who were finishing their 1-year clinical internship in 2016. Data on their opinions and reasons for emotional changes during their school life were obtained. The descriptive phenomenological approach was applied to analyze the interviews. Their stress came from disappointment in themselves, competitive environment, observing a change in their personalities, meeting their parents' expectations, and interpersonal relations. The interviewees adjusted to the medical study by exercising self-control in their studies and daily lives, by practicing self-acceptance and observing their state of mind, and by breaking free from the competition-driven environment and obsession with grades. In addition, they cultivated endurance and found external support. Finally, they achieved self-efficacy and were comfortable in their identity as medical students. They still had to address the stress from working relationships and the difficulty in balancing studies and life. The medical students' self-evaluation and compulsive tendencies increased during the medical course due to the burden of studies. They evolved by learning self-control and introspection and seeking ways to adapt. Understanding this growth process of medical students will improve student support in medical schools.
This study is to verify the mediating effect of self-efficacy in the relationship between elements of the ERG and organizational attachment. To verify this, a survey was conducted on employees working at companies in Korea and the research found that all three elements of ERG have a significant effect on self-efficacy, and self-efficacy also have a significant effect on organizational attachment. Thus, it was found that self-efficacy played a mediating role in the relationship between the three elements of ERG and organizational attachment. Based on these findings, we present practical implications while also presenting future research directions.
Quantified-self technologies (QSTs) provide functions for users to collect, track, and monitor personal data for self-reflection and acquisition of self-knowledge. Although QSTs require prolonged use to reap the attendant benefits, many users stop using their devices or tracking within weeks or months. To address this issue, this study seeks to determine ways to sustain the use of QSTs. Combining motivational affordance theory with technology continuance theory, this study develops a theoretical model that accounts for an individual's continued intention to use a QST. Within the proposed model, unique QST affordances were identified as antecedents of individual motivation in relation to technology continuance, and their different roles in stimulating hedonic, utilitarian, and eudaimonic motivations were examined. The model was tested using data collected from 180 QST users. Results demonstrate that although utilitarian and eudaimonic motivations are complementary forces in determining continuance intention, hedonic motivation loses its predictive power in favor of eudaimonic motivation. Tracking, visualizing, and sharing affordances play different roles in elevating user motivations. The sharing affordance does not influence utilitarian and eudaimonic motivations, but it positively influences hedonic motivation. This research contributes to the literature on technology continuance by shifting scholarly attention from hedonic-utilitarian duality to eudaimonic motivation, characterized by meaning, self-growth, and pursuit of excellence.
Laterally self-aligned InGaAs/GaAs quantum-dots (QDs) have been fabricated by using a multilayer stacking technique. For the growth optimization, we vary the number of stacks and the growth temperature in the ranges of 1-15 periods and $500-540^{\circ}C$. respectively, Atomic force microscope (AFM) images and photoluminescence (PL) spectra reveal that the lateral alignment of QDs is enhanced in extended length by an increased stack period, but severely degrades into film-like wires above a critical growth temperature. The morphological and the photoluminescence characteristics of laterally self-aligned InGaAs QDs have been analyzed through mutual comparisons among four samples with different parameters. An anisotropic arrangement develops with increasing number of stacks, and high-temperature capping allows isolated QDs to be spontaneously organized into a one-dimensionally aligned chain-like shape over a few ${\mu}m$, Moreover, the migration time allowed by growth interruption plays an additional important role in the chain arrangement of QDs. The QD chains capped at high temperature exhibit blue shifts in the emission energy, which may be attributed to a slight outdiffusion of In from the InGaAs QDs.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the learning experience, self-directed learning ability and self-efficacy of Japanese nursing students undergoing portfolio-based clinical practicums. Methods: The self-directed learning ability and self-efficacy of nursing students were examined using two scales. And using a text-mining approach, we constructed correspondence analysis followed by cluster analysis of open-ended responses forms. Results: The mean score of the self-directed learning ability was $60.89{\pm}5.28$ and the generalized self-efficacy was $68.37{\pm}11.56$. Moreover, the scores in the self-directed learning ability were positively correlated with scores in the generalized self-efficacy. In correspondence analysis, the distribution of extracted words showed that record was located on the negative side of the third quadrant, to the first principal component and that patient was located on the positive side of the first quadrant, contributing greatly to the second principal component. Conclusion: The results of this study contribute to approaching to "confidence, pride, stability," "growth and intention to development'' offers a key in developing self-directed learning ability. Students record what they see and learn the importance of visualizing it in learning portfolios. "Expression in detail of the learned contents" and "concerning to which objective evaluation is suggested" are important to the students.
Since the Korean retail industry was made accessible to the big conglomerates and foreign retail companies, local traditional markets have faced serious problems. To sustain the local traditional markets' survival, the Korean government established various remedial policies for addressing, and many scholars published articles to suggest how to find solutions to, the problem. Unfortunately, the results have not been satisfactory. The purpose of this study is to find another way to help the Korean traditional retail market, from the view point of the Green Growth Policy, an initiative designed to address environmentally balanced economic growth in Korea. In order to survive and to maintain sustainable growth, it is incumbent upon retailers in the traditional market to understand the concept of the Green Growth Policy. A survey was conducted as a means of testing the degree of awareness of the Green Growth Policy, as well as determining the relationship between the degree of awareness and the degree of organizational commitment by the retailers in the local traditional markets. Interestingly, we were able to detect some of the features (e.g., they were distinguished by the elderly and the young, as well as low level of education and high level of education) in the traditional market retailers' demographic characteristics. We utilized the analysis of variance (ANOVA) statistical method to simultaneously compare the differences in retailers' demographic characteristics; the results were as follows: Overall, the results showed that the awareness of the Green Growth Policy, the degree of trust in the government's policy, levels of self-efficacy, and levels of organizational commitment were higher with the older traditional market retailers than the younger traditional market retailers. Specifically, the degree of trust in government policies (F=9.964,p < .05), levels of self-efficacy (F=5.532,p < .05), and levels of organizational commitment (F=5.697,p < .05) were statistically significant. Moreover, in the portion of the study that addressed the difference between education levels, all the variables were averaged in the higher education category of the traditional market retailers. Specifically, awareness levels of the Green Growth Policy (F=8.564,p < .005) and levels of self-efficacy (F=6.754,p < .005) were statistically significant. These results revealed that the traditional market retailers' demographic characteristics should be considered important factors in order to realize their policy. The results of the study showed the following: 1) The degree of awareness of the government's Green Growth Policy was statistically significant as it related to traditional market retailers' organizational commitment. 2) The degree of trust of the government's policy was significantly moderated between the awareness of the government's Green Growth Policy and the traditional market retailers' organizational commitment. This result demonstrates that the traditional market retailers' awareness of the government's Green Growth Policy will show more organizational commitment with higher levels of trust of the government's policy. 3) It also revealed that traditional market retailers' self-efficacy was fully mediated between the awareness of the Green Growth Policy of the government and traditional market retailers' organizational commitment. The results suggest that the government should show an interest in showing traditional market retailers how to enhance their traditional markets. Implications and future research directions are also discussed.
Well-defined solid-state microcrystalline structures from bispyridyl Zn-porphyrin have been successfully synthesized. The coordinative interactions between pyridine and Zn are main responsible for this translation of porphyrin molecular building blocks to crystalline microscopic objects. The hexagonal plates are obtained from acetonitrile and rhombus plates are grown from toluene solution. With a simple manipulation during the microcrystal growth, such as growth temperature and time, the morphologies can be controlled by adopting different molecular packing. Consequently, morphologies of microcrystals have been diversified.
As computational resolution of modern cosmological simulations reach ever so close to resolve individual star-forming clumps in a galaxy, a need for "resolution-appropriate" physics for a galaxy-scale simulation has never been greater. To this end, we introduce a self-consistent numerical framework that includes explicit treatments of feedback from star-forming molecular clouds and massive black holes. We perform a state-of-the-art cosmological simulation of a quasar-host galaxy at z~7.5, and demonstrate that previously undiscussed types of interplay between galactic components may hold important clues about the growth and impact of quasar-host galaxies.
