  • This study analyzed various factors of reading motivation and motivational differences between grades and gender. An urban sample of first-, third- and fifth- grade children completed the Motivation for Reading Questionnaire (MRQ; Wigfield & Guthrie, 1997). The MRQ assesses such possible factors of reading motivation as self-efficacy, intrinsic-extrinsic reading motives, and social aspects of reading. Factor analyses and cronbach's ${\alpha}$ demonstrated that 10 factors of children's reading motivation could be identified and measured reliably. Mean scores on most of the factors differed by grade and gender, with girls and lower grades reporting stronger motivation. This study found that children's reading motivation is various and decreases as children mature. Various efforts to encourage children's motivation for reading are suggested in this study.

Correlation analysis and regression analysis were conducted through SPSS24.0 program. First, creative leadership showed a significant positive correlation with internal motivation and self-efficacy. Second, multiple regression analysis was conducted focusing on factors showing significant differences in correlation. As a result, self-efficacy and intrinsic motivation were the factors influencing creative leadership. There was 60% explanatory force. It is necessary to improve self-efficacy and intrinsic motivation in order to improve creative leadership.

  • As an origin and a starting point of business start-up, this start-up intention is believed to be the driving force of economic growth. Being aware of the importance of the start-up intention, the study looked into cause-and-effect relationships of variables focusing on intermediate roles of start-up self-efficacy and intrinsic motivation in self-leadership and start-up intention of business founders. In order to achieve the research goal, the study conducted both a survey targeting a total of 195 business founders registered at a business incubation center and an empirical analysis on the results of the survey. According to the findings from the analysis, the study first learned that the self-leadership would have a positive effect on the start-up self-efficacy and the intrinsic motivation which eventually proved that the self-leadership is a leading variable of the start-up self-efficacy and the intrinsic motivation. Second, both the start-up self-efficacy and the intrinsic motivation were observed to be positively related to the start-up intention. That finding signified that roles of the start-up self-efficacy and the intrinsic motivation are important to increase the start-up intention. Third, intermediate effects of the start-up self-efficacy and the start-up intention were discovered from the self-leadership and the start-up intention, the main topics of the research. Hence, in order to improve the start-up intention, the importance of the start-up self-efficacy and the intrinsic motivation should be recognized and promoted as well and for this goal to be achieved, the business founders should understand the idea that the self-leadership has to come first than anything else in this case. Based on the results of the research, the study offers theoretical and practical implications.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to examine whether a psychological concept enhances healthcare users' service experience. Specifically, the study proposes and empirically examines a model of perceived control in which the user's sense of control is postulated as exerting positive influences upon his/her motivation, self-efficacy associated with his/her role as a patient, and satisfaction with his/her medical service experience. Methodology - Data were collected by a professional research company, using an online survey method. Participants of the study included adults nineteen years or older who had visited a medical service institute at least once during the previous one-year period. For the test of the research hypotheses, structural equation modeling using AMOS was used. Findings - Findings of this study denote a unique insight into the users' comprehension of medical service experiences and their behaviors. First, the concept of perceived control is identified as a factor that enhances the quality of individuals' medical service experiences. A sense of control directly influences medical users' self-efficacy to comply with doctor's recommendations, their motivation to comply with doctor's recommendations, and their satisfaction with the medical service experience. Second, one's perceived self-efficacy is found to exert positive influences upon both motivation and satisfaction. Third, one's motivation to comply with the doctor's recommendation is found to exert a positive influence upon one's satisfaction. Additionally, perceived control is found to exert an indirect influence upon medical service users' satisfaction through the mediation of both self-efficacy and motivation. Research Implications - The findings of the study support the notion that perception of control among medial service users enhances their service experience as patients. The main thrust of this study suggests that it is necessary for healthcare practitioners to consider implementing service encounter strategies that purposefully enhance the sense of control among their patients. The identification of significant inter-relationships among perceived control, motivation, self-efficacy, and satisfaction among medical service customers should also serve as a meaningful seed for further research pursuits.

  • This study aims to verify the self-determination motivation and ego resilience on the grit of the preparing students for the secondary school physical education teacher certification examination to provide basic data to improve the level of grit required for them to pass the certification examination and be appointed as physical education teachers. Thus, in order to achieve the objectives of this study, 403 students were verified through one-way ANOVA and correlation analysis and stepwise multiple regression analysis, which resulted in the following conclusions: The higher the level of intrinsic motivation and ego resilience, the higher the level of the grit sub-factors. Self-determination motivation and ego resilience that affect grit the most are found to be intrinsic motivation. Next came positive thinking, emotion regulation, problem solving and identified motivation factors. The results of this study suggest the importance of dealing with self-determination motivation and ego resilience affecting grit, and put forward the limitations of the study and future directions of research.

  • In this article, a fairly extensive literature review was conducted to depict the current status of academic motivation and its developmental trend among Korean adolescents. The focal factors were perceived competence and autonomy which have been considered as major determinants of academic motivation. Theoretical frameworks adopted were self-efficacy theory, expectancy-value theory, and self-determination theory. Empirical studies conducted in Korean educational settings during the past decade were the target of the literature review. Results of the literature analysis revealed that, in general, there was a decreasing tendency in perceived competence from elementary to middle school which followed by a slight increase after entering high school. Similar trend revealed in the development of autonomous motivation, in that middle and high school students' intrinsic motivation levels were lower than that of the elementary groups. The amotivational tendency was increased as the grade level proceeded toward high school, which requires attention from educators. Discussion was followed in an attempt to provide plausible interpretations for this undesirable current status of Korean adolescents' academic motivation and to suggest implications for possible remedial actions both in pedagogical perspectives and students' well-being.
