  • In this study reviewed the validity of the estimated optimum trim by the numerical analysis. For this purpose, the numerical analysis of the trim optimization for 6500TEU container carrier and capesize bulk carrier were carried out using Star-CCM+, which results were compared with the results of model tests. The reliability of results of the numerical analysis was confirmed via comparing the resistance determined by the numerical analysis and model test. The performance of self-propulsion at each trim conditions were estimated using the calculated resistance by numerical analysis. The BHP at each trim condition were calculated by estimated performance of self-propulsion, which trend of results were confirmed similar trend of result of model test.

  • The purpose of this study is to discuss the current status and limitations of convergence education in universities and to explore new possibilities of engineering convergence education by analyzing characteristics and cases of self - design semesters as convergence education. As a result of this study, it was found that the education for fostering convergence ability is insufficient for the viewpoint of education. The types of convergence education could be classified into three categories. However, the concept and paradigm of convergence education has not been established precisely because it is made in a 'top-down' manner by the government. In addition, there was a limit of the lack of a foundation to operate the convergence education. However, A university's self-design semester, it shows the possibility of cultivating the overall convergence ability by giving autonomy and subjectivity to learners and through the acquisition of contextual knowledge and the ability of collaboration.

  • This paper compares and contrasts four different kinds of leadership models in Design Management. Similarities and differences between these four models in contemporary leadership issues and challenges are analyzed and described. Each model will demonstrate the effects of leadership and how these leaders use the different approaches to develop their leadership style in their design field. This paper proposes that contemporary leadership in Design Management involves a unique bonding among leaders and followers, and more flexible and developed leadership will continue in the understanding and skill with which applying to the dynamic of organization change. The results and application of each model's assessment indicate a team of leaders that are capable of achieving excellence through their combined talents and vision to achieve in design fields using their potential inability of their own leadership.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose a new design principles and to analyze the pattern of art and architecture applying fractal concepts. As this study is based on fractal geometry as a natural science, 1 intented to explain the concepts and provide some methods of generating fractal properties. Two major aspects are discussed. Frist, fractals are geometric shapes that are self-similar, in other words, they iterate a basic shape at ever increasing a decreasing dimensions. Self-similarity, irregularity, and scaling are fundamental characteristics of fractal geometry. Second, the fractal concepts of art and design can be analyzed and used as a critical tool. In both criticism and design, fractals provides a tool In fine, fractal geometry can be provided endless possibilities for artists and designers intended in expressing the more complex underlying rhythms and organic patterns of nature.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate(1) the effects of clothing cues of 20s young man in business suits on the perception of occupational suitability in an office setting and (2) the effect of Perceiver's self-monitoring and sex on the perception of occupational suitability formed by the function of clothing cues. The experimental design of this study was between-subjects 23 factorial design. The experimental materials developed for the study were a set of stimuli and a response scale. The stimuli consisted of 8 color photographs of a young man wearing business suits which were manipulated at two levels for each of three clothing cues (suit color, suit style, necktie color). Each one of eight sub-samples included 14 subjects from 2 perceiver groups by sex. The questionaires used to measure perceivers' responses to the stimuli were constructed in 12 five-point likert scale representing occupational suitability and self-Monitoring was measured by the self-Monitoring Scale by Gangestad adn Snyder. The subjects consisted of 224 male and female college students in Seoul. The data was processed by ANOVA and MCA(Multiple Classification Analysis). The result were as follows: (1) The Clothing cues of young man in business suits(suit color, suit style) partially influenced the occupational suitability. (2) The perception of occupational suitability formed by the clothing cues of a young man in business suits was partially influenced by the perceiver's self-monitoring and sex. Female high self-monitoring group were more affected by the clothing cues than any other groups.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate clothing attitude according to the self-esteem, body-cathexis and personal-relationship in multicultural families. 198 questionnaires were analyzed by using SPSS program(version 18.0). Self-esteem, body-cathexis, personal-relationship, clothing attitude were examined through 5-point likert scale. 3 factors including clothing interest, social approval and clothing conformity were used as clothing attitude. The results of this study is as follows: First, there were differences in self-esteem, body-cathexis, personal-relationships, clothing attitude in multi-cultural families. Second, self-esteem had positive influences on body-cathexis and personal-relationships in multicultural families. Third, the Chinese were that body-cathexis had positive influences on social approval. The Filipinos were that personal-relationships had positive influences on clothing interest and social approval. The Vietnamese were that personal-relationships had positive influences on clothing interests.

  • Traditional queueing analyses are very useful for designing a network's capacity and predicting their performances, however most of the predicted results from the queueing analyses are quite different from the realistic measured performance. And recent empirical studies on LAN, WAN, and VBR traffic characteristic have indicated that the models used in the traditional Poisson assumption cannot properly predict the real traffic properties due to underestimation of the long-range dependence of network traffics and self-similar properties. In this paper, It is also shown that the self-similar traffic reflects real Ethernet traffic characteristics by comparing Pareto-like ON/OFF source model which is exactly self-similar model to the traditional Poisson model. It is also performed optimization design and performance analysis of ATM network using Internet traffic characteristics.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of core basic nursing education using cellular phone video recordings on self-confidence in performance, achievement, and practice satisfaction. Methods: The research design was a nonequivalent control group modified and non-synchronized design. The participants were assigned to either the experimental (n=60) or control group (n=67). During one semester, the experimental group received training for 10 selected core basic nursing skills using cellular phone video recording. The control group, also for one semester, received training with traditional practices. Self-confidence in performance and practice satisfaction were measured using a questionnaire, and achievement was evaluated by professors at the conclusion of the semester. Collected data were analyzed using t-test and Pearson correlation coefficients. Results: Self-confidence in performance increased significantly after training in the experimental group (t=7.94, p<.001). The experimental group showed significantly higher self-confidence in performance (t=2.39, p=.018) and achievement (t=2.40, p=.018) compared to the control group. However, the difference in practice satisfaction was not statistically significant. Conclusion: The results indicate that cellular phone video recording is effective in improving self-confidence in performance and achievement of core basic nursing skills.

  • Purpose: The present study was designed to explore and compare attributes of the quality of life between Korean elderly and Korean-American elderly. Method: The research design was a descriptive design and questionaries were used. Studies were done using questionnaires. Data were collected from convenient sample of 163 Korean elderly and 151 Korean-American elderly recruited from senior centers and churches. Collected data were analyzed by using SPSS/WIN 10.0. Results: There were significant difference between Korean elderly and Korean-American elderly in education and income. Korean-American elderly showed higher selfesteem, self-efficacy, and quality of life than those of Korean elderly. The influencing factors on quality of life in Korean elderly were defined as self-esteem and self-efficacy. And the influencing factor on quality of life in Korean-American elderly was defined as self-efficacy. Conclusion: In conclusion, the results of this study showed that self-efficacy was a very important factor as attribution to the quality of life for both elderly group. Therefore, self-efficacy should be promoted in nursing intervention in order to enhance the quality of life for both Korean and Korean-American elderly.
